Force Level
[ jedi ]

The Force Level is the basic level of control an individual has over the Force. Force Level is a positive integer or zero.

A character adds their Force Level to any check they make to accomplish a goal as well as in combat both defensively and offensively. As such, level is very important in determining an individuals ability to do difficult things.

Jedi Rank
Though Jedi ranks are in character, they are associated with a certain force level. So, each Force Level has an associated Jedi Ranking. Inversely, the Jedi Ranking can be used to guess the Force Level of an individual.

The following IC ranks are associated with the force levels:

 * Force Sensitive (Level 0)
 * Jedi Initiate (Level 1-3)
 * Jedi Padawan (Level 4-6)
 * Jedi Knight (Level 7-9)
 * Jedi Master (Level 10+)
 * Force Entity (Level 10+)

Force Sensitives with no formal Jedi training have no rank and generally a Force Level of 0. This means they get no bonus over ordinary folks, though with access to the Force, they can still accomplish amazing feats. Jedi Initiates, usually younglings, have a level of between 1 and 3. Padawans have levels from 4-6 before they become Knights between levels 7 and 9. Jedi Masters may have a level of 10 or higher, as do Force Entities, which are beings spawned or made of the Force, including Sith Spirits and Jedi Masters who have transcended life.

These ic:jedi#Jedi Ranks are used for simplicity, but organisation of force users other than the Jedi Order might use different names.
Increasing Force Level
Force level can not be bought with XP directly. Instead, you get an increase in force level for every 10 XP spent on other rewards.

However, you can only gain the force level if you have done at least 3 missions per Force level you gained, regardless of how much experience you have spent.

For example: if you start with force level 4, your force level increases after spending 10 XP, and doing at least 3 missions. The next increase will be after another 10 XP (making a total of 20 XP) and another 3 mission (for a total of 6).

Force Level beyond 10
While force levels 1 through 10 have no cost, all force levels beyond the 10th have an associated cost.

After gaining the 10th force level, you can spend 50 (:xp) to increase your force level by 1. There is no limit on the number of increases you can buy.
Increasing Rank
Increasing your force level does not pull a Jedi over the rank border: when you have gained a force level that would increase your rank, you don't automatically gain the new rank, but instead, the Storytellers will run a special story for you. This story, also called a trial, will change your rank, but only if you succeed at whatever quest has been set!
