Create a Race

[ Guides ]

This guide walks you through race creation.

The Star Wars galaxy is filled to the brim with alien races, some of them familiar and some of them completely alien. Whether you create a Jedi or start your own system, you will want to decide what race your character or people will be.

First: What's your race like?

Before you start creating a race, you will want to take a moment to think about what your race will be like. Are they big and strong or small but with many? What do they look like? Do they resemble humans or are they completely and utterly alien?

You are free to fill in the details such as what your race looks like, how they function biologically and whatever else interesting you can think of, however those details will not affect the game statistics. If you wish to create a race that falls far outside the norm, such as living crystals, energy based life forms, sentient gas clouds, etc, please contact the Storyteller beforehand.

Regardless of your choices, keep in mind that you will need to find images for your race, both for the race itself and for any characters you make (be they Jedi or Senators) - try not to make it too hard on yourself to find images. However, you also want to be careful not to pick an image that is too familiar, lest your own creation will be drowned by the art it is imitating.

Once you have an idea of what kind of race you want and have picked out a name, it is time to select what exactly your race can do better than every other race out there.

Example: The Suman are a slow, long living race that thinks carefully about everything before coming to a decision. They sometimes have trouble keeping up with other races, but they benefit from a lot of stability in their lives. They are peaceful and prefer cooperation over conflict.

Racial Characteristics

The Racial Characteristics page lists a large selection of 'Racial Characteristics'. Racial Characteristics are various benefits that apply to your race. Each benefit has a production bonus used when managing your economy and a Jedi bonus, which applies to your Jedi. You should end up with three Racial Characteristics that best describe the advantages of your race 1).

Not all Racial Characteristics are created equal. Some are better for Jedi (such as Force Sensitive) and some are better economically Metal Oriented). If you are creating a Jedi, but have no plans for an economy you only need to look at the Jedi bonus (or vice versa). If you are creating both a system with an economy and a Jedi, you may want to make sure you pick a balanced selection of both, as you need at least 1.0 of the race you are picking for your Jedi.

Second: Create a Wiki Page

Before you make a race page, you need the following:

Go to the race builder (You can also find it in Tools → Race Builder).

In the race builder you can construct your race by filling in the important details of your race.

To upload a race image, click the ‘Upload/Select’ button. This opens the wiki database of images. On top of the page, click 'Select files...' and browse for the image on your computer you like to upload. Then click the 'upload' button and finally click on your image in the list. The image file page will close and your image should now be visible in the Race Builder.

Click the ‘Save your race’ button to save your race. You will be redirected to the wiki page where your race will be saved.

When you click the save button, the wiki page for your race will be set up for you to make a final check. Here you can make final adjustment if necessary and add a description about the race. You will see there are some important pieces of text.

  1. This code adds a banner in the page to indicate the page is still under construction.
  2. Here you can add a story about your race.
  3. This is the save button to finalise your race's wiki page.

When you are satisfied about your race, click the ‘Save’ button of the wiki. Congratulations, you have now successfully created a race.

1) in special cases, a race enhanced by the Augmented Species special gets 4 Racial Characteristics. To add this option, check the 'Augmented Species' checkbox
2) For example, 'human' and 'humans'
