Azarya

[ Races ]

The Azarya, the founders of the Unified Empire of Azaryan Colonies are an interesting species. Although looking surprisingly humanoid, the race has actually evolved from a species of insect, resembling bees. Although mainly human, their compound eyes and jaws that open up in mandibles betray their true origin. Most Azarya have dark skin and well muscled bodies with the muscles of the upper arms and legs slightly out of propoprtion, allowing them to climb the sand dunes and vast mountains of their planet Nest.

Not unlike bees, they have one single female as their ruler, whom they call the Empress or, more familiarly, The Mother. Unlike bees, the species is not made up of mindless drones, though they do have the ability to communicate telepatichally amongst each other and are able to willingly synchronize their minds using certian mantras, changing them into well-oiled working teams or fighting groups.

On their home planet Nest, most Azarya live in large underground complexes made by hand. Some of these homesteads can reach up to a million inhabitants.

The Azarya are ruled by an Empress who is adviced by a Council. Their political system has some distinctive socialist and communist properties, having a clear 'all for one and one for all' attitude. On the planets they have colonized, the Azarya rule with a certain sense of superiority (they did defeat the other race), but the original inhabitants do retain a certain amount of rights. More: TBA

The Economy of the Azarya is mainly based on Industry, the production of vazrious metals and gases. The Azarya are not so much thinkers, but more a hands-on kind of race. This does not mean they are savages; most Azarya are properly educated and highly skilled at their jobs. There are a large amount of civil engineers and applied scientists as well.
