Kal System

Primary system of the Astai Republic

The Kal system is the only system governed by the Astai Republic and it contains the home world of the Astai. It contains two “habitable” worlds, Enthor and Charios. Technically being habitable, Charios is not a hospitable world, containing no atmosphere and only some native primitive life beneath its frozen oceans. Enthor was an extremely inhospitable planet until recently, when the Astai Republic in cooperation with the Veolian Commonwealth terraformed the planet to a comfortable Eden world. The star Kal at the centre of the system is now in it's main sequence and emits low amounts of heating radiation most of the time but will occasionally pulse and emit larger amounts of radiation. The system contains a large amount of cold planets and asteroids belts, the amount of rocks making for careful navigation of the system.

Ragnarok

There was a point in time where Enthor was a much more habitable world, when life once sprang up on it and evolved on it, and grew rich on it. When the ancestors from before the Astai walked Enthor. But then the Kal system travelled through a large amount of interstellar debris. Enough debris landed into the sun to cause mass ejections which wiped away most of the atmosphere of Enthor, along with a solidified core this did not give the planet much in the way of radiation shielding. Furthermore Eio's moon crashed into the planet, and from all of the debris more asteroid belts formed. The outer edge of the Kal System has ever since been lined with asteroids. The Kal System has since been quite hostile to life, however life has adapted.

Population

The republic has a population of 17.19 billion, almost exclusively on Enthor, the largest planet in the republic. Transportation to other planets in the system is achieved easily by free community services and many private transportation machines. Humans make up a sizable portion of the population at 1.73 billion, but the main part by far is still Astai at 15.46 billion. The Astai have found that humans didn't do as well on the old surface of Enthor in the unprotected zones, but the humans have adapted over time, as have the Astai and the relation between the two people is symbiotic. Recently Enthor has been terraformed and the humans and astai now frolic freely over the surface, harmonising their differences.
