Organization
The Lifebringer Clans are an aggregation of all extended Kiitik families, as well as several Uplift species. Kiitik have a complex society, with each individual belonging to half a dozen social groups. These are something on the order of religion, family, profession, clan, and castes. Kiitik have a rich vocabulary denoting affiliations and duties, but the general term Kiitik use is Clan. While this sounds very restricting, in practice, a Kiitik gives preference to one or two of these Clans and pays lip service to the others. Though there are still vestiges of a once strict matriarchy, Kiitik are quite free to choose their path in life to suit their preferences and skills.
Politics
The Kiitik Clans themselves are autonomous but highly specialized, and thus highly interdependent. Their government is an indirect, multilayered democracy, whose main focus is orchestrating the logistics and managing the conflicts of this complex interdependence. This goverment is led by one or more Clans specialized in politics. Election is based on performance. For the past century, the Clans have been effectively ruled by the Isika, an expansionist clan favoring accesion to the Union. Due to their success in this endeavor and the resulting increased prosperity for the Clans as a whole, it is likely the Isika will remain in power for the forseeable future. The government has been mostly focused on the massive upscaling of the Clans' economy in order to operate in the Union. To this end, extensive treaties have been made with another nation, that of the Techno Zaibatsu.
History
In the past, the Clans formed a much larger empire, spanning most of their star system. In this period, they terraformed a number of their worlds, and Uplifted a variety of local species to obtain a skilled workforce. These Uplift species now function as autonomous Clans within the greater whole of Kiitik society. As a symbol of the height of Kiitik achievement, they are well respected, though given little real governing power at the higher levels.
In the pre-union era, Kiitik Clans were known for developing and producing bioweapons. They tended to skirt the edges of the First Kinewa Convention. In the Wars, the Kiitik home system was decimated, and their technology level was set back decades. Only a handful of Clans still focus on biological weaponry, and they are subject to regular Union inspections.
Outlook In general, the Kiitik are pacifist, and focused on research, in particular biotechnology and terraforming. They have a religiously motivated awe for all things living. By joining the union, the Kiitik hope to rebuild their world and spread their love for life throughout their system and beyond.
Mirath is a Medium Planet in the Rha System. Once a terraformed world, it harbored a large percentage of the Kiitik biological research and Uplift centers. The more bellicose Clans used their laboratories here to develop a wide variety of biological weapons. Mirath's cities, infrastructure and atmosphere were thoroughly destroyed in the pre-union wars, reducing the planet to its pre-terraformed state.
There are many voices for recolonizing Mirath, but as all Clans want to disassociate themselves from the bioweapon research the Kiitik were known for in the past. Hence, priority is given to habitable moons throughout the system. It is likely all of the Haas moons are reclaimed before Mirath ever will be.
Haas is forms a trinary system with Rha and Saava and is a small Red star orbiting the primaries in the Rha System. Its light and heat is sufficient to improve the quality of the orbits of its sattelites.
Isi is a Large Moon orbiting Haas in the Rha System. Being an agricultural world, it is the only terraformed Haas moon that survived the pre-union wars with its atmosphere intact.
'The Clouds' is the unimaginative name the Kiitik use for the Interstellar gas clouds enveloping the Rha System. The stars in the Rha-Saava-Haas Trinary System have weak magnetic fields and produce relatively little stellar wind. Thus, the interstellar medium reaches unusally close to the system boundaries, and gas clouds here can be mined efficiently.
