Master Leithor sends Shebi Ajava, Ariana Danacia and Jedi Fecta Trigiel to quarsti_iv to investigate a possible lead in the case of the disappeared Jedi Knight Irina Hightower.
After getting the necessary gear from Quartermaster Nishra, the trio of Jedi sets out for the planet Quarsti IV in
9 -8. Upon arrival they feel a disturbance in the force, though it is not clear what this means. After Trigiel sets down the ship, the Jedi went to investigate the address they got from Master Leithor.
The address turns out to be in a hotel. They enter the hotel and have a look around in the lobby. Here, they felt another disturbance in the Force, somehow emanating from above them and from the receptionist of the hotel. While Trigiel looks for a map Ajava tries to get a sense of the relevance of the disturbances. While they do so the receptionist noticed the three Jedi and speaks something into an earpiece. Immediately thereafter the receptionist starts choking. Trigiel and Ariana rush upstairs to the room while Ajava stays downstairs to try and save the receptionist.
Ajava was unable to safe the woman, and the two other Jedi were unable to catch the culprit in the room. Instead, they found a scene of torture and decapitation: one decapitated body was bound to a chair, the associated head next to it on the floor. Another body was slumped against the back of the chair. Both bodies showed signs of torture with a lightsaber. All three Jedi set to investigating what they had found: Trigiel and Ariana in the room, Ajava the earpiece. The earpiece of the receptionist seems to be of a Mandalorian make. In the room a flowerpot was kicked over by whoever was fleeing the room, and a strip of anti-nausea medicine was found in the trashbin of the room.
As they were busy with the investigation the trio felt yet another disturbance in the Force, this time they clearly felt the approach of a person probably related to the dark side. He spots Ajava and Trigiel and starts running away. Before the Jedi can react, a group of cloaked figures jumps down and starts chasing the man as well. A chase ensues and the man is chased to the roof of a high building, where the two groups of chasers meet.
The three cloaked figures reveal themselves as saberwielders and attack the three Jedi to get at the running man. In the ensuing combat Ariana repeatedly tries to prevent a nearby ship from acting as an escape vehicle for either the other group of force users or the running man. After a few attempts she gives up and joins the battle. The fight is over as quickly as it started, as Ajava mows down two of the opposing team and the third man is killed by the running man.
The ship Ariana tried to prevent from interfering turns out to carry Jedi Knight Irina, who jumps down and stands next to the running man. It is clear that she is pregnant. She radiates with power.
Ajava and Irina exchange some words, and she is asked whether she wants to leave the Jedi order or not. She does not give a clear answer and the conversation continues. She claims that if she leaves the Jedi Order the masters will come after her child because the father is a Sith. Ajava explains that Master Leithor sent the three Jedi because he was worried and wanted to find out what happened. She argues that if Irina does not wish to leave the Order, she also accepts the authority that the masters have over here, and that she should come home to explain herself.
Eventually, Irina says that she has an obligation to her child as well as to the Jedi, and that she does not wish to leave the Order because according to her that would raise suspecion in the senate, however she is not coming with the three jedi either. Before the pair leaves Peter, the sith father, turns to the Jedi to ask them to keep Irina's pregnancy secret from the jedi masters.
