Jedi

A Jedi is a member of the Jedi Order, who studies, serves and uses the mystical energies of the light side of the Force. A Jedi Character has access to Force Powers, which makes them stronger and better at most things than non-Force users and even allows them to break commonly accepted laws of physics. While the term Jedi is technically only true for those force users associated with the Jedi Order, the rules use this term interchangeably with Force User.

Besides a name and race and other common bio information, Jedi Characters have some basic statistics shared by all. These are:

Combat

Jedi sometimes face situations that cannot be solved by skill alone and they are required to use violence.

The most iconic case is that of a Jedi facing another Jedi (or Sith) in a lightsaber duel. This situation forms the default for the combat mechanism, and other variations (Jedi facing multiple opponents, multiple Jedi facing a single opponent, non-Jedi opponents, etc) are based around this concept.

Taking Checks

Often, your character will want to do something. And if its a simple thing, like driving a car through traffic or getting dressed, you really do not need to make any checks. However, sometimes you want to do something extraordinary or you are facing a tough opponent.

In such a case, you describe the action you want to take in your post. Please list any Force Powers or Skills you believe may apply to help you in achieving the action.

The base of each check is your Force Level + Relevant Attribute. The total score is determined as follows:

Force Level + Relevant Attribute + Force Powers + Skills + Circumstance

That is your Force Level plus your relevant attribute score, with added bonuses from your Force Powers and Skills. Circumstances may provide a bonus or a penalty, usually between 1 and 2 in either direction. The total determines how good you executed your action. The higher the final result, the better!

If you use a skill while you have no training in it, you get only half your Force Level on the check (round down): the force can help you reach your goal, but not tell you what to do. For example, when moving around stealthily a Force level 3 Jedi with no dots in Stealth, would calculate (5 = 1 Force Level + 4 Fitness + 0 Stealth), whereas a Force level 2 Jedi with 2 dots in Stealth would have (6 = 2 Force Level + 2 Fitness + 2 Stealth).

The Story Teller then determines if your check is high enough. If it is higher or equal than the difficulty of the task, you succeed (and may even succeed brilliantly if your score is much higher than the difficulty). If not, you fail (and may even fail horribly if your final score is much lower than the difficulty. As a general rule, you are not told the difficulty beforehand, though you can get an indication if you are in doubt.

In case of opposition, you compare your score to the opponents. The highest wins. In case of a tie, its a tie.

Remember, when posting an action, please report as clearly as possible your Force Level, Relevant Attributes, Force Powers used (and their associated bonus), Skills used (and their associated bonus) and any Circumstances you feel apply - if you do not claim them, you generally do not get the bonus!
