Building a Jedi

[ Guides ]

This guide walks you through jedi creation.

Example Name: Aayla Secura

Title: Jedi Padawan

Age: 13

Race: Twi'lek with characteristics: High Fecundity, Information Oriented, Force Sensitive.

Create the character

Start with the Character creation guide to create the basics of your new character.

When you select Jedi as character role you enable the extra options for creating your Jedi.

race characteristics have a separate Jedi bonus. See the Race builder to create a race and look at Racial Characteristics for the bonuses. You apply these bonuses after spending the normal available amounts of points.

Force level

Example Aayla Secura:

She is a Jedi padawan and starts with Force level 5.

(Basic 4 + 1 from Force Sensitive)

Your Force Level is the main source of power that a Jedi has. You get your force level as bonus on every check you make. Each Force Level has an associated Jedi Ranking. Inversely, the Jedi Ranking can be used to guess the Force Level of an individual.

New characters start at any force level of their choice up to and including 4. Their associated Jedi Ranking is thus 'Force Sensitive' if they choose a Force Level of 0, 'Jedi Initiate' if they choose a Force Level of 1, 2 or 3 or Jedi Padawan if they choose the maximum force level of 4.

Attributes

Example Aayla Secura:

Fitness : 4 Reason : 4
Vision : 4 Intuition : 3
Strength : 3 Energy : 5

(Extra attribute point from High Fecundity)

Each Jedi character has six main Attributes, which are used in most actions not related to combat. The attributes represent their Control over themselves, there Sense of the universe around them and their ability to Alter reality. Each of these aspects is approached both in Body and in Mind. Together, these different aspects form the six main attributes.

New characters gain a base score of 3 in each attributes 1), their choice. Additionally, each character may distribute an additional 4 points as they see fit, however, no score may be higher than 6 (so you could not have one score at 7 and all others at 3). You may voluntarily lower a score below 3, however this will not increase your scores in another attribute.

Force Powers

Example Aayla Secura:

She has Befriend Animal , Mind Trick and Telepathy

Force Powers are special powers a Jedi may have that can aid them in their efforts. A Jedi knows a limited number of Force Powers. Each Force Power has 3 possible levels. A Jedi Initiate (i.e., anyone with a Force Level of 1+) is limited to a maximum level of 1, a Jedi (Force level 4+) Padawan is limited to a maximum level of 2 and a Jedi Knight (Force Level 7+) is limited to a maximum level of 3. A Jedi Master (Force level 10+) may research and increase their control over a specific Force Power beyond third level. Additionally, for each level, each Force Power provides a special ability that can be used in some specific circumstances or a limited number of times per adventure. The description provides details on this.

List of currently available force powers:

  • Mind Trick (The Jedi can use the Force to make another believe a simple lie and even guide their actions, provided the action is not too far out of character. A guard might be mind tricked to let someone pass at a general checkpoint, but they could not be mind tricked to swallow a live grenade, for example. The action must be immediate.)
  • Telepathy (The Jedi can use the Force to send telepathic messages to willing living creatures over a short distance. They can also receive telepathic answers from a creature contacted. However, they cannot maintain continuous connection and telepathy requires intense concentration.)
  • Battle Meditation (Battle Meditation allows the Jedi to add a cumulative +1 per force power rank to all six rings of the fleet they are attached to.)
  • Befriend Animal (The Jedi can befriend local wildlife - though limited in their abilities, befriended animals will try to help the Jedi to the best of their ability and understanding within their natural behavior. For example, a befriended Rancor might attack the Jedi's enemies. However, a befriended rabbit would not be able to operate a computer panel to open a door. The effect is temporary and requires a check for especially powerful animals (such as the aforementioned Rancor). Next to this, the Jedi gains an animal companion, a small creature that is a permanent friend to the Jedi.)
  • Force Lightning (The Jedi can throw lightning from their hands, which can be used to make an attack on a single target on the piercing ring (this is a one-ring attack). The lightning has an offensive bonus on its rings equal to the number of ranks in this force power, thus it starts out as - / - / +1 . The throwing lightning counts as a weapon, so you can not use this with another weapon (not even a lightsaber).)
  • Force Speed (The Jedi uses the Force to increase the speed at which they can run. As a result, they can chase down foes more quickly, jump greater distances and even catch up with vehicles.)
  • Force Heal (Living Force) (Letting their life energy flow to someone else, the Jedi can heal them. This power can not be used on yourself. You can use this power freely, but every time you use this power, you will get a -1 Force Level for the rest of the mission as you transfer your life energy to someone else. It takes a few minutes to allow someone to recover with this power.)
  • Force Drain (The Jedi continuously drains the smallest of lifeforms. This makes them immune to disease and heals small cuts, bruises and restore pulled muscles within minutes without any conscious effort. With a conscious effort, the Jedi can drain another being to recover from exhaustion. The victim must be a weak opponent, or must be helpless. The victim is left exhausted, but will only die from this if they were in a severly weakened state. This power can only heal the Jedi.)
  • Life Energy Manipulation (With but a moment of concentration, the Jedi can suppres their life signs to evade notice by life sign scans, some forms of security systems and even some animals that detect you by smell, electroreception or even through the Force. Using this power lowers the chance of other Jedi noticing you based on purely sensing you with the force. This power requires a check.)
  • Force Heal (Unifying Force) (Calling on the Force the Jedi can speed the recovery of someone else. This power can not be used on yourself. The Jedi can use their healing power a number of times per day equal to the Rank the Jedi has in this power.)
  • Force Jump (This Force Power allows the Jedi to further enhance their abilities and jump further and higher.)
  • Control Machine (Through meditation, you can connect to a complex machine provided that machine has a DEM-Crystal. You can attune to a single machine.)
  • Force Vision (The Jedi's vision is not hindered by conditions with bad visibility, such as bad lighting, mist or rain.)
  • Telekinesis (This Force Power allows Jedi to lift larger objects and throw them with bigger precision.)

A new character starts life with three Force Powers at level 1 or with two Force Powers where one of these powers is level 1 and the other is level 2.

Skills

Example Aayla Secura:

Athletics 1

Linguistics 2

Slicing 1

Stealth 2

Wilderness Survival 1

(Extra point stealth from Information Oriented)

Skills are similar to Force Powers, except they do not require use or access to the Force. Like Force Powers, Skills have a level, though this level is not limited by the Jedi rank. Instead, the maximum level in a skill is a characters force level. Thus, a force level 4 Jedi Padawan is limited to having 4 levels in a skill.

Skills provide a bonus on checks related to using that skill. Unlike Force Powers, where a conscious effort to apply a skill is required, skills are automatic. However, to save the storyteller a headache, when you have a skill you believe applies, please list the skill you believe applies. Skills stack with one another and with Force Powers, however only those skills that apply to the check are counted.

A new character starts knowing 9 levels of skills. For example, they could have nine skills at level 1, or four skills at level 2 and one at level 1, as they please. The maximum level of a skill is equal to your characters starting force level.

Combat Styles

Example Aayla Secura:

She has Shii-Cho (Form I: a generic style that all jedi train in) and Ataru (Form IV: an offensive style).

Combat styles are used by Jedi during combat. Each combat style has six values, three offensive and three defensive, these are described in the Rings of Defence page. Combat Styles may have prerequisites (such as other Combat Styles, skills or Force powers) and they may have limitations on their use - most Combat Forms require the use of a lightsaber, for example.

A Jedi either knows a Combat Style or she does not, there are no levels. However, Combat Styles generally have one or more Special Manoeuvres (which you either have or do not have). Special Manoeuvres do two things: first, they increase the bonuses from the Combat Style. This effect applies in all circumstances. Secondly, Special Manoeuvres allow special effects in special circumstances. The exact effect is listed in the entry.

Characters may have two combat styles, one of which must be Shii-Cho to start with. They know no Special Manoeuvres to start with.

Lightsabers

Example Aayla Secura:

She has a blue regular blade with regular hilt.

With the lightsaber builder, you can easily select the properties of your saber.

  1. A preview of your saber.
  2. The type of hilt and blade.
  3. The colour of the saber.

It is hardly possible to make a serious Jedi without having a lightsabers. Lightsabers have a significant impact on Combat and the Combat Styles you are able to use. For example, lightsabers provide bonuses to various Combat statistics and many Combat Styles are limited to certain types of lightsabers.

Choosing the right saber is a difficult personal choice, influenced by many factors. Jedi craft their own lightsabers so as to fit them to their personal style and in this they have many options available for saber colour, hilt design and blade length. The builder will give a preview of the lightsabers chosen.

New Jedi Characters have lightsabers. They get a blade or pair of blades of their choice with no special features to start with. You can change to a different saber configuration later, so take your limited selection of styles into account when starting out! Create your lightsaber configuration using the available options in the character builder.
