The Astai are a sovereign republic who's home system is located at sector 11-7. As their name would indicate, the Astai home system is populated mainly by Astai. The republic has operated an economy on intergalactic scale since 63.

The Astai Republic is a meritocracy. That is the people in power of areas such as diplomacy are the ones who have proven themselves to excel in negotiations. To establish who does what there is standardised testing but more important than these standardised tests are the interests of the people themselves. The popular reasoning goes that those who are most interested in a field will work to improve themselves more to become beter at a field. The state is also very socialist, corporations are encouraged to rise up but markets are strictly checked for cartels and other such measures.

The Astai Republic are the founders of the Ahlstorm Enterprise and co-founders of the VAC, specialising in the production of and , processing those into , and . Further processing those goods into the specialised products of and .

With the completion of the terraformation of Enthor the Astai Republic has divested in many corporations and grown to become one of the more affluent factions of the union, using the money to increase their production and depending on a variation of tax sets and special product trade for their income.

The Astai culture is strongly related to the meritocracy government system. The focus of life is to better yourself, practicing the field that you are most interested in and satisfaction is gained from being good at a field. Recognition is also based on skill, anyone can be placed into any position if they show they can do it better. A significant human population on Enthor has helped grow an atmosphere of tolerance towards other species, where xenophobia is a fringe opinion shared only by small minorities. The general consensus is that the humans have contributed positively to the culture and the economy.

The environment of Enthor has also had a big cultural impact on the Astai. Early mythology tried to create ways to appease eternally angry gods, for everything on Enthor will try to kill you. Nature, in Astai culture, is something that kills you. If it isn't the wild beats, then it is the radiation, or just the heat, or the plants, or the nights, or a myriad of other factors. As technology developed, more measures were found to survive. It became a hallmark of civilisations to increase longevity, and decrease deaths to everything nature. One such aspect became underground works, at first vital facilities such as shelter but gradually more luxurious projects were carved into the planet, shielded from things such as radiation and temperature fluctuations.
