A night of too much drinking by Zalyass al-Chak'zya Azara-ya takes a dangerous turn when a hooded figure saves her from a very angry Zabrak. After being taken to a large apartment, the hooded figure reveals herself to be a Veolian woman, calling herself 'Dakini'. She offers Zalyass protection in exchange for obedience. Zalyass eventually accepts.

The next day, the woman re-introduces herself to Zalyass as Shebi Ajava. They discuss many things, first of which is how Zalyass is to behave towards Ajava. Other conversation topics include Zalyass' previous jobs and education, what she is currently doing, and how she could improve herself. Ajava seems interested both in her past and in her current political enemies.

They agree to meet again in a short while to continue their planning.
