Khaw Darsana became hemet at a much later time in her life than usual. Becoming hemet after thirty-six years of her life, her education was focussed on her achieving a good position at one of the many Khaw research laboratories. After becoming hemet, she refused to change her career path, and tore through the rest of the curriculum with ease. Since then, she has contributed to several significant increases in veolian understanding of genetics in their own, and other species.

She is well-known for her unorthodox opinions of several aspects of veolian culture, several of which she has publicly condemned, or even acted against despite public opinion. An example of this is her active role in the research and development of the Assisted Apomictic Parthenogenesis together with researchers from the Astrian Colonial Authority.

In her published works she is critical of the veolian attitude towards cybernetics, and has questioned where the boundary between self and machine lies. Uncharacteristically of most veolian philosophers that are critical of the current veolian attitude, she is also critical of the use of cybernetic implants.
