The Limëan Republic is a minor society in Sector 11 -3, which consists of Limëan Transcendents and of Limëan Droids. The Limëan Transcendents decided to abandon their body over nine thousand years ago, when they invented mind-uploading. Now they live in a virtual world, which is sustained by a couple of servers with enormous capacities. The Limëan Transcendents are polarized into two factions: the Caltulists and the Gaianists. These two factions live on different servers, and it costs much effort to switch to the other faction.
The Caltulists
The Caltulists are named after the great philosopher Hannory Caltulis, which perceived the experienced world as a reflexion of the real world. According to him, the objects of the experienced worlds are merely the manifestations of the archetypes of the real world, which are more general and structural. He thought that the Limëan Link should be a opportunity to come closer to the real world, because there “the people wouldn't need to camp with the problems of natural chaos and could settle in the link with order and peace”. A lot of the Limëans agreed with him, and became known as the Caltulists.
The Gaianists
The Gaianists didn't agree with the Caltulists. They thought that the Limëan Link could be an opportunity to explore the possibility of their minds. They also didn't believe that objects of the percieved world could be categorized into archetypes, but that the categorisation was only an invention of the human mind and had no actual meaning. They then decided to form their own group and named themselves the Gaianists.
The Struggle
Because of their different views it became impossible for the Caltulists and the Gaianists to live together on one link. The Caltulists wouldn't let the Gaianists on the Link because they were chaotic and impure, and the Gaianists didn't want to live with the Caltulists because of their narrow-mindedness and their conservatism. This led to a friction between the two factions, and they decided that they didn't want to live together on one server.
The inequality between the fractions
The home planet of the Limëans was already very polluted when the Limëan Link was invented, which forced the Limëans to escape into their mind-uploading system. The fraction led here to an inequality between the factions, because the Caltulists had a much richer heritage than the Gaianists. This is why the Caltulists have developed better servers which supported a nearly-infinite life for the Caltulists. The Caltulists also had developed self-reproducing Limëan Droids to maintain their servers. The Gaianists had to live on cheaper servers, which were more dangerous and still required the Gaianists to reproduce once in a while.
The way of the Archetype
The Caltulists now live a very ordered life. Each object has to be a derivative of an archetype, which has to be designed by the members of the senate. The archetypes are as simple and straightforward as possible to prevent chaos from braking loose. Each life has to be very scheduled as well, because if the life isn't true to the archetype, it can not be a very good life. The government of these servers consists of a senate of 100 men. Falc Zepu and Jothe Sias are both members of the Caltulist Senate. All of the ministers are allowed to make use of avatars: androids to which a mind can connect to interact with the chaotic outside world. Because of the dangers involved with the influences of the real world even the ministers must be very carefull with using avatars. A very important Caltulist philosopher is Nousythes Peoisus.
The way of Nature
The Gaianists now live a life without boundaries, full of freedom to explore all the different opportunities of their Link. The only problem is that life is also very dangerous, because of the instabilities of the servers which are in use by the Gaianists. The lack of quality of the Gaianist servers also causes a delay on the servers relative to the real world, one Gaianist year translates to nine regular year. Furthermore, the Gaianists still need their bodies to live, which are connected by a giant plug to the servers. These bodies are also used for interactions with the real world. The jedi Saron Itho has a Gaianist descent.
