Sector Capacity
Space is really empty. Unfortunately, not all space can be used in an economical fashion. The amount of usable real estate in a sector is limited. These rules explain how space is limited, and how to calculate how much real estate is still left.
We take into account two seperate measures: realspace and hyperspace. Realspace is the amount of normal space available for economic usage, and hyperspace is the amount of hyperspace available. Hyperspace is used both by ships flying through it, and by transmissions made through it.
Notation
The notation we use for the realspace and hyperspace amounts is (7|2), meaning 7 realspace and 2 hyperspace. The two parts can be used separately if necessary, this leads to (7| and |2) for the example.
Actual Capacity
A sector has (20|20) capacity available.
Most space stations are to small or irrelevant to take up actual realspace, and the same holds for most hyperspace routes and communication. So, normal communications and flights do not impact the available capacity in a sector. The following list shows things that do take up significant real estate:
- Systems take up (7|2)
- Settlements take up (7|2)
- Outposts take up (3|1)
- Space Habitats take up (1|0)
- Hyperspace Lanes take up: (1| and |1) per lane quality point
- Holonet takes up:
- (1| for the presence of holonet
- and another |1) per base station in the sector
- Hyperspace Monitoring Grids take up (0|1)
