Checkable Private Actions
This page seemingly contains a load of garbage: there is actually a system to it. The data you see is generated by me (Brend) to have a log of all kinds of clandestine actions taken by my characters. I'll try to keep the sneakyness to a minimum, and make as much roleplay public as possible. But some of these things are done in private, and I don't want to make single 'action' threads.
Instead of spamming the forum, I PM Mercury the action, so at least one other ST is aware of the situation. I will also keep a log of those messages on this page for later disclosure.
The system data on this page is created following the following steps:
- Write the private action into the 'message body'
- Take the ripemd160 digest of the message body
openssl dgst -ripemd160 input-file.txt
- Use aes-256-cbc symmetrical encryption with a key of choice to encrypt the message body
openssl aes-256-cbc -salt -e -a -in input-file.txt -k YOUR_KEY_HERE
- PM the private action plain text to the ST (make sure to include both the encryption key and the digest)
- Create a new section on the log page
- use the digest as the title of the section
- use the encrypted message as the body of the section
- If the ST replies with results, those are encrypted as well under the same encryption key, and added as a second paragraph to the section.
Then, if someone challenges the action, I'll publish the encryption key, and the decoded body. You can verify the veracity of the mesasge yourself by decrypting it (you know that I took the action at that moment, because you can check the old revisions of this page):
- When the action is challenged, publish the key of the message body, people can then decrypt the message body and check the content
