Siege
This Military Fleet formation is an upgrade to the current fleet formations, allowing actual interaction with planets and outposts.
Siege Formation
The fleet operates close to the targetted planet, moon, outpost or space habitate with the intention of directly attacking infrastructure, buildings and population.
When sieging a target, for each consecutive
you bring the target off-balance (or damage it), it gains an additional -● penalty on all defences. This bonus is cumulative. The siege penalty resets if the fleet stops attacking the planet for any reason.
For example: the Seventh fleet is sieging an outpost. When they bring it off-balance (by having a higher score in two rings), the outpost has a -2 penalty, instead of the normal -1. Next turn, they again bring it off-balance, increasing the penalty to -3.

The siege style is very useful to overcome planets that have a very inbalanced defence rating. By continuously hammering away, you can reduce even the most fortified planets to ashes. In effect, anyone that has the Siege formation can treat a planet as requiring only two overcome rings to damage it – it just takes more time.
Bombard
Bombards the planet to inflict serious damage to zones or population.
A planet can only be bombarded once it is incapacitated.
With a bombardment, you can either:
- Select a single zone of your choice, this zone is destroyed.
- Target population centers, killing 10% of the population of each species residing on the planet (rounded down)
Bombard gives a -2 penalty on the fleet's defence rings.
Multiple fleets can bombard the same planet, with attacks being processed in sequence. So two fleets both targetting population centers will destory 10% of the population, and then 10% of the population left after the first attack.
Invade
By deploying troops on the surface, the battle is brought to the planet itself.
A planet can only be invaded once it is incapacitated.
The invasion takes 1
per billion population (or part thereof). During this time, the fleet can do nothing but invade. If multiple armies are deployed, the time it takes to invade the planet goes down by 1
per army beyond the first, but never below 1
.
Invade gives a -2 penalty on the fleet's defence rings.
For example: By deploying 3 armies on a a planet with 4.5
armies it will take 3
(5base - 2additional deployment) to invade.
Succesful invasion of a world halts all economic production and combat activity while it is occupied. Once the planet has been occupied for 1
per 1.0
(or part thereof) other options become available to the occupier. These options are deliberately undesigned; but are intended to be things like annex or vassalize.
You can't invade if the planet is being bombarded.
