Political Strife on Excaria
Excaria - The murder of former Chancellor Bolv'ar appears to be leading to shifts in power on Excaria.
When the former Chancellor was removed from his position as Senator for the Confederacy, the factions that originally moved him forward were divided and kept quiet, but his murder appears to have re-united them against the forces that installed Senator Aunzora at the time.
Rumours and accusations that clandestine operations originating on Excaria may have been involved in the former Chancellors death have been vehemently denied by politicians supporting Senator Aunzora, who points out the investigation into the murder suggests that it was not the former Chancellor who was the target but his wife and that the murder was the action of a single person.
Despite of this, public support appears to be behind the supporters of the murdered former Chancellor, leading some to speculate that Senator Aunzora's days as Senator for Excaria may soon be numbered...

Cassandra Holdings established, public offer reissued
Unity City - After a failed first attempt to publicly sell shares was declared invalid by the parties involved, a second auction for the shares of the newly established Cassandra Holdings corporation has been opened.
Duchess Dewa Lanadi commented on the reissue of shares: "The parties involved in the first auction have jointly decided that a reopening of the auction is in the best interests of all involved. Cassandra Holdings has been fully established, offering potential buyers more insight into the projected annual gains of the corporation.
Our analysts have projected an expected 31.2
annual dividens per share, making this one of the most lucrative corporate shares on the market at this moment. I look forward to following the development of the corporation."

Unity - After an engagement period of two years, Thomas Pendra and lady Khaw Jikena were married in a well-attended ceremony on Unity. The couple was engaged in turn 17, at the end of the Inter-species procreation and culture summit organized by the Veolian Commonwealth. The exclusive list of wedding guests included the minister of foreign affairs, senator de Montrève, and several high-ranking nobles from both the Sundarian Federation and the Veolian Commonwealth.
Of note are Lady Neomi de Savony and Lady Daphne de Lontryue. The two ladies represent two of the most influential families in the Sundarian Federation in both the economic and political arena. Though it was not their family's position that stood out. What stood out was they way both congratulated the newly-weds: with guarded jealousy towards lady Khaw Jikena. It seems not everyone is happy with the marriage!

Political Changes on Excaria

Senator Aunzora will be retiring after the elections and a new Senator, who's name has not yet officially been announced, will be sent to the Senate to represent Excaria in his stead.

Sundarians and Veolians to exchange embassies
Glasslynn/Mirda - The Sundarian Federation and the Veolian Commonwealth have agreed to exchange embassies. Negotiations towards this goal have been going for a while, though both factions indicate that most of these negotiations were filled with details on the embassies themselves, instead of conceptual issues.
The emperor of the Veolian Commonwealth has appointed Lord Rāja-Duta as ambassador to the Sundarian Federation. The appointment of a family outside of the great houses came as little surprise, as the emperor has been carefully appointing smaller houses to such prestigious positions. Experts on Veolian culture are quick to point out that the daughter of the newly appointed ambassador, lady Rāja-Duta Nāhi, visits Unity on a regular basis.
High lord Yllia of the Sundarian Federation has appointed mister Pendra as ambassador to the Veolian Commonwealth. The appointment came just mere weeks after mister Pendra's marriage to lady Khaw Jikena. Several high-born candidates, or family members thereof, have been seen at the offices of senator Peinaili de Montrève, and cultural analysts say that this choice is highly unorthodox.
Both worlds are currently preparing the final treaties and work is under way to open the new embassies.

Professor Dewa Karinth thanks Jedi and announces new rice species
Talima University, Mirda - This afternoon professor Dewa Karinth, associated with the biogenetics department of the Talima University on Mirda, announced a new species of rice capable of withstanding extreme temperature ranges. He explained that the new species is called Oryza Jedia, to acknowledge the assistance of the Jedi with the development of the genetic sequences spliced into the rice.
In his speech, professor Dewa Karinth thanked jedi T'Sal of the Hiocan Society, jedi Fecta Trigiel of the Teprogrenaian Consensus and jedi Nebesnogo Sveta of the Unified republic of Darya for their assistance with the research.

Qualification rounds concluded in Grav-ball
Unity - The qualification rounds for the grand Grav-ball tournament have completed, setting up the stage for the pre-finals of the Championship. The Pre-finals are a series of matches run to select the best two teams for the Grand Finale match, the most watched sporting event in all of the Union.
Sixteen teams have qualified to make their way through the qualifiers to the pre-finals, including the four expected favourites.
After a two week break, the pre-finals will begin proper, promising to bring some very exciting matches. Union Central News will be covering major events in the tournament only, but other channels will be offering live coverage of all matches.
((OOC: Because I expect to make a lot of entries related to this, I decided to cut the majority of the news on this topic to a separate thread to prevent spamming the Union Central News.
There will be an economic event related to the Grand Finale, but if you want to be involved with the grav-ball tournament beyond the Grand Finale, let me know and we'll work together on the event. There may be opportunities for RP as well ^_^))

Veolian nobility in intense debate about Mandalorian prisoners of war
Mirda - With the return of the First Shebi Fleet, the current topic of discussion among the nobles on Mirda is what should be done with the Mandalorian prisoners of war that have been taken. With the successes of admiral Shebi at the Battle of Nest, and the resulting chase, the amount of POWs is estimated at about 1300. Though all are Mandalorians, several species are represented amoing the captured Mandalorians.
It is unclear what should be done with them. Those versed in Union law point have determined that Union laws do not mention POWs at all.
Though the six great houses have taken no official stance in the topic, several large houses have already declared their support for immediate execution of all those taken as prisoners of war. They cite the fact that Mandalorians are little more than pirates and that, as execution is a justified means of dealing with pirates, these Mandalorians should receive no less harsh fates.
The two other prevailing opinions are to set up an exchange to free the estimated 350 veolian prisoners, or enslavement of those prisoners that have potential, and execution for the rest. Critics of the prisoner exchange are quick to point out that the Mandalorians are a proud culture and that they will most likely not accept a prisoner exchange, as the captured warriors are seen as a failure. Opponents of enslavement come in two varieties: several houses allied with House Iaat have voiced strong opinions against slavery, while others note that warriors make poor slaves though a select few might be appealing enough to be worth the effort.
House Saret has issued a press release stating only that the issue will be discussed in due time.

Unity - Earlier today, an unspecified number of Astrian volunteers went to the Veolian embassy on Unity, escorted by none other than the Lord-Master of the Astrian Colonial Authority. Immediately thereafter, a cadet branch of a noble veolian family left for the Astrian embassy.
As part of the Astrian-Veolian cultural exchange program, the Astrian volunteers accepted to become slaves in the Veolian Commonwealth with the Lord-Master being their witness. In turn the Veolian volunteers were implanted with advanced Astrian cybernetics, so they can function normally within the Astrian community.
The volunteers are now on their way to their new homes. A treaty between the two worlds guarantees medical inspection and certain rights to both groups of volunteers. The goal of the exchange is to create a deeper understanding of each other's culture. Hopefully, the acceptance of both the Astrian and the Veolian cultures will increase, allowing peoples from both world to mingle and coexist.

Sustainable Energy Consortium completes Solar Wind Generator Array designs
Unity City - The Sustainable Energy Consortium has completed their first project since the consortium's inception. According to a press release by the consortium, the completion of the Solar Wind Generator Array is only the beginning of the work. the Sustainable Energy Consortium was formed by research institutes from the Veolian Commonwealth, the Sundarian Federation, the Astai Republic, the Hiocan Society and the Praetorian Empire.
The consortium was set up by its members for research into large projects in the sustainable high-yield energy generation field. With the pilot project completed, the consortium has announced that they are currently working on an ambitious project proposal, for which they hope to both open up a second call for members and lobyy for Union support. The exact details of this mystery project are unknown at this moment.

Free Confederacy selects new logo
Scir - After taking some time to build a new logo, the Free Confederacy has constructed a new logo to represent the superpower.
The new logo is a dark blue background with a red, orange and yellow dot, representing Wrarrbo, Liberal Assencia and Scir respectively and was accepted under applause amongst the representatives.
It is expected that the replacement of the logo will begin immediately, though as with any big organization, the old logo may still show up somewhere by accident - citizens of the Free Confederacy will be able to claim a minor reward for spotting incorrect logo's so they can be replaced and are instructed to contact their government to claim their rewards.

Consumers project consumes budget money again
Dhiahamara - Once again, projects endorsed by the governmental Consults of the Teprogrenaian Consensus are more expensive than have been estimated. The 'consumers project' was started to stimulate growth in the Consensus after the recession, but due to unexpected setbacks, the projects meant to support start-up companies and mass production are getting more and more expensive. The lower Consults are say that the 'consumers' project name is well chosen given all the tax it has consumed so far without any actual results.
Several lower economical Consults claim that the governmental Consults have made some idiotic large mistakes, as their shared opinion is: "C'mon, the whole Consumers project is getting already 1350 to much. That is more than twice than our shipyards have cost, and there is still no end to it. That sum of money does not just disappears, and neither justifies it another calculation error leading to missing another 2000 . This is just insane."
The entertainment industries even speaks of a worse economical situation than the one during the great recession not so long ago. They claim that for them, the recession never ended. Spokesman Danar Ogdel of the Combined Capitols Entertainment Consult: "We wonder why the higher Consults claim that everything is going so well, if we haven't had a single movie production which was not a economical disaster in the last six standard months, the whole entertainment industry is stuck in the mud." The entertainment consults claim that the Consensus has no growth potential at all: "Just look at it, once again there is no development on The Cradle, while it went so well with it last years. And the Consensus has even less taxes to spend for growth than during the early turns of the recession."
The transport sector and off planet mining operations don't recognize the claims of recession at all. They report having a large expanding business. They cannot keep up production and transportation to comply with future deals with the Praetorian Empire. The shipping Consults also report having unforeseen growths, they claim: "We cannot keep up with the trades we're making. We literally have to double our trade fleets."
The Economical Consult have said to go sit around the table with the industries to discuss the current situation and what can be done for everyone to experience the needed growth.

Wreckages salvaged on the border between sector 7 -5 and 7 -4
Praeto - A salvage crew hired to retrieve
from the wreckages in 
7 -5 has been salvaging wreckages for over a week now. A few days ago they were scouting wreckages on the border of 7 -5 and 7 -4 where they located a squadron of small daryan scouting ships. The Daryan ships had no life signs on board but after investigation 53 dead crew members were located in the wreckages. The salvagers retrieved the ship wreckages and transported them back to Praeto. From there the ship wreckages and the bodies were transported to Unified Republic of Darya who accepted the bodies and performed the proper funeral rituals.
According to the salvaging crews there are still at least thousands of wreckages from Union and Mandalorian fleets in 7 -5 and 7 -4. They are wondering why Union members have not started salvaging these vessels yet.

According to the ACA the area the crew salvaged from was within ACA sovereign territory. The arrest warrant was issued because the crew did not have the proper salvage rights and have there for been in violation of ACA law.
A spokes person stated Lady-Senator Maria Latharion has made formal requests to the Praetorian Empire to arrest and extradite the crew so they can be brought to justice. The spokes person also stated the ACA has contracted several companies to start recovering and identifying bodies from the wreckages still in the sector so they can be returned to their relatives.

The Union's Got Talent!
Unity - A new show will soon be hosted in Unity City to be broadcast to reality channels all over the Union: The Union's Got Talent!
Contestants from the various members of the Union will demonstrate their talents before a live audience, before being grilled by a panel of three judges. The winner will be selected by a combined Jury and viewer decision once all contestants have shown their talents.
Contestants may participate in any number of performance skills, including such diverse things as singing, juggling, dance, poetry, acrobatics, or even magic or comedy, but acts should be short for purposes of cramming in as many commercials as possible.

Praetorian Empire adopts Slavery legislation
Praeto - Emperor Thorios Olchazith has officially approved the recently proposed new slavery laws after a personal recommendation by Ardios Eldrilith.
The new slavery laws are derived from Veolian laws on slavery and are based on the Praetorian laws on ownership and the treatment of slaves is based on destruction of capital. The laws allow every wealthy Praetorian that is capable of affording slaves to buy them. Slaves are recognized as a new instance of the owner with the same privileges and status just like in Veolian law. Emperor Thorios Olchazith was convinced by the profitable taxes on slaves. Having Praetorians as slaves is currently still frowned upon, but is technically not illegal.
Senator Ardios Eldrilith is currently in the process of acquiring slaves. Rumours say that his personal visit on Mirda is not only for the summit.

Recycling is hot!
Unity - After the first developments of recycling the ships wrecks from the war the Hiocan recycling technology has taken flight. A research collaboration of various faction; the Astai Republic, Hiocan Society, Praetorian Empire, Sundarian Federation and Veolian Commonwealth, has made is possible for recycling to go on intergalactic scale. The first brand new Planet wide waste handling facilities have already been build and are starting up.
"It is good to see that more faction become aware of the fact that our resources are limited and we should not waste them." says one of the scientist. "We will continue on working on this as there are still various challenges to make this work for all our resources."

IO Protocol evading Union Taxes!
Unity - An investigation into the financial records of the Union revealed today that the IO Protocol has recently stopped paying taxes altogether. Tax payments by the faction have been steadily declining but since Turn 145, the IO Protocol has stopped paying any taxes altogether.
When asked about this, the IO Protocol gave the following statement:
"416 - Requested Range Not Satisfiable"
It is as of yet unclear what, if anything, they mean by that, but clearly a grave injustice and fraud is still ongoing. Surely someone in the Union Senate will soon open a debate on the matter...

Opening of the G-22 Summit
Mirda - The capital city of Mirda is preparing for the arrival of delegations of high-ranking politicians and captains of industry as the G-22 summit begins. The Mirda Inter-Galactic Convention Centre has undergone large structural changes to accomodate the number of species visiting, and security measures have been increased to cope with the increased number of possible threats.
Though the summit will only be officially opened at the end of the day, several delegations have already arrived and are taking up residence on the summit grounds. Civilian traffic to the capital has also increased, though local authoritities have started screening procedures to prevent threats taking advantage of the chaos.

Opening of G-22 Summit delayed due to security concerns!
Mirda - Due to the sudden increase in civilian traffic towards the capital on Mirda, the opening of the G-22 Galactic Economy Summit was delayed by a day. Officials explained that the sudden increase in traffic proved difficult to handle using the current security resources, and that extra resources were addressed to resolve the issue.
Experts say that the choice to delay the summit by one day indicates a more serious threat to security than announced, though they are hard pressed as to the nature of this threat. Several experts point at the Free Confederacy, and others cite unrest among the Twi'lek population in the capital.
Regardless of the nature of the threat, the summit is now started.

Mirda - Previous turn, the final payments for Cassandra Holdings shares have been made. Ownership of the shares has been transferred to all parties this turn, making Cassandra Holdings the first publicly traded intergalactic corporation in the Union.
Unfortunately for the buyers, analysts have predicted a very slow start for the new corporation. Cassandra has been marketed as being able to capitalize on the growth of the
market mainly due to the involvement of the IO. As negotiations between the IO and the Sundarian Federation seem to be non-existent. Unless another giant like Niom expresses interest, growth potential appears to be limited.
Furthermore, inside sources have confirmed that the corporation is currently haemorrhaging large amounts of due to unclear responsibilities and inter-world legal issues. Of the 10 in dividend, only 8 is currently paid out. Cassandra Holdings did not want to comment on where the remaining 2 go.

Recession Ends!
Unity - Across the Union, business is once again growing, bringing new optimism to the stock markets. The stimulus packages by the members of the Union have fired up industry and kick-started new business, bringing the economy back on its usual track.
It is as of yet unclear what the future will bring, but it now looks brighter than it did before!

Together with two other intergalactic corporations with a focus on 
, the Vaspa Industries conglomerate has started production of large amounts of Tibanna gas. Tibanna gas is valued as a component of high-end engines, weapons and terraformation processes.
The conglomerate has announced cooperation with corporations established in the Unified Republic of Darya and the Astai Republic. Several analysts predict an end to the gasses-shortage in the Union, as the Astai Republic stands ready to increase their production. Other analysts expect the push towards specialisation to continue with the establishment of at least two more corporations focussing on the processing of gasses.

ACA police arrest gang of slavers with help from Veolian cyborgs
Stellaria - Earlier today the ACA police arrested three people trying to sell slaves on Stellaria.
Even though slavery is highly illegal in the ACA, the suspects tried to sell them to two Veolian nobles. The nobles are part of group of Veolians that volunteered to become cyborgs and come to Stellaria as part of a cultural exchange between the Veolians and the ACA. The two nobles promptly reported the attempted sale to the authorities and a clever scheme was made. The Veolians, pretending to act along with the slavers, led the police to the location of the deal where the suspects where caught in the act.
When asked for a comment one of the Veolian nobles had this to say:
"I don't understand what these slavers hoped to achieve. They clearly misunderstood the attributes a veolian looks for in a slave, not to mention the fact that the keeping of slaves is outlawed by the colonial authorities.
My wife and I found it intriguing to see Astrian law enforcement in action, their officers act with great effectiveness due to their cybernetic enhancements. They show a truly remarkable refusal to be limited by their evolutionary path."
