Astrian slave is fireproof, rescues veolian noblewoman
Mirda - This afternoon, an Astrian slave rescued a veolian noble from a burning building just before it collapsed. The building, an industrial facility owned by House Nehket burst into flame after an accident with one of the high-speed cyclic assemblers. The fire quickly spread throughout the facility.
After the evacuation a head count showed that the director of the facility, lady Karah Imile, was till missing. Among those nearby was one of the director's property, an Astrian slave. To the astonishment of onlookers, the astrian simply walked into the burning building only to return carrying the unconscious director.
Lady Karah graciouly allowed us to get a comment from the Astrian: "The Mistress has always treated me well. She was very kind to me when I first came to Mirda. I'm just happy I got to her in time.
I was really surprised when I first got here. Other slaves worked with such devotion. I understand that now, we are treated kindly and help people do important jobs."

House Khaw begins large-scale recycling campaign
Mirda - House Khaw, known for their meticulousness in both maintaining and protecting the veolian genealogical archives, has started a planet-wide campaign espousing a stringent recycling regime. With the aid of new developments by Hiocan scientists, the great house's campaign aims to take advantage of species and racially adapted methods of industrial production and waste handling.
Lady Khaw Majna announced the campaign, citing a well-known fact as one of the primary reasons to start the campaign: "Mirda is inhabited by over 20 billion people. We must continue to grow as we are doing now, but Mirda's ecological systems can only support so many.
Through this campaign, we hope to both bring this issue to light, and to provide a way to extend the period that is available to us to prepare for the inevitable next step: the colonisation of other worlds."

Silence falls for chancellor election
Stellaria - A dead silence fell on the streets of Stellaria today. For over six hours not a single living soul walked outdoors on and around normally crowded areas in Triad City.
Done as a protest against the elections for the new chancellor because there is only one candidate. Additionally billboards where hacked and altered to display the following sentence: 'Democracy means choice, a single option is no choice.'
Together with the silence the protest calls for people not to cast a vote for the elections. An anonymous representative of the protest had this to say: "We have nothing against the candidate. However, the Union is a democracy and having only one person to vote for is not part of a democracy. It is part of a dictatorship or even a tyranny. Ideally we would like to see no one cast a vote, but we realise that is not very realistic."

Election results are in!
Unity - After an exciting election race filled with absolutely no events whatsoever, it was announced today that incumbent Chancellor Nehket Aeka has been re-elected as Chancellor.
Several factions, out of protest against the lack of candidates for the position, chose not to vote, but this did not affect the majority consensus that the only candidate should win!

First Astrian child born on Unity
Unity City - Earlier today the first Astrian child outside the Astrian Colonial Authority was born on Unity.
The child was born to non other then Lady-Senator Maria Latharion and her partner Emily Hunteria.
Because of the highly specialized equipment needed to safely birth an Astrian child, Astrian women needed to return to the Novalia system to have their children before. Now Unity City's Astrian clinic has the proper equipment and certification Astrians can have their children on Unity as well.
While a name has not been revealed yet, it has been made public that the baby is a girl and in good health. The little girl has already received her first cybernetic implants.
We here at Union Central News ACA branch wish the best of luck to the new family.

Annual thunderstorm hits Teprogrenaian Homeplanet
Dhiahamara - You can almost set your clock to it, but for those who are thinking to actually do so, please the thunderstorms which hit Dhiahamara are not an accurate measure for time. As the surface of the homeplanet is scourged by thunderbolts and lightning, contact with the planet has become difficult for the coming few weeks.
Every year a large planet wide thunderstorm hits Dhiahamara, making live on the rock rather difficult for a short period of time. Space satellites have measured a peak of 2300 thunderstrikes per second per hectare in the Harenam Aecor, the large dessert stretching for kilometres over the planet, and the storms have yet to intensify. However, the Teprogrenaian people are well prepared against this sort of weather and the storm is expected to cause little trouble aside of the expected planet wide shut down. The storm is expected to last till turn 65.
This is by far not the largest storm to hit Dhiahamara. The most severe storm is still recorded to be the one in 32 B.U. (32 year before union), where a peak of 3500 thunderstrikes per second per hectare was measured and where the storm did a total damage of the equivalent of 150
. Estimated to be lighter than normal, this years storm falls perfectly within the normal range of storms.

House Dewa and House Shebi vie for control over underwritten shares
Mirda - House Dewa and House Shebi have taking their struggle for control over 6% of the shares of the Cassandra Holdings corporation to court. The share packages was acquired by the Veolian Commonwealth as part of the finalization of the second public tender to bring Cassandra Holdings to market.
Now, seven months later, the two great houses are in conflict over the share package. Both houses claim first rights on sale of the 6% package after the Imperial Council decided to liquidate part of the commonwealth's share portfolio. House Dewa supports their claim by citing their role in establishing the corporation. House Shebi strengthens their claim through the fact that their ownership of the remaining 6% will give them 23% control over the holding -- both replacing the Sundarian Federation as chairman of the board, and increasing the amount of dividends flowing to the commonwealth.

Study shows long-term effect of controversial same-sex reproduction project
Mirda - A recently published report by an independent statistics institute has renewed the debate around the controversial same-sex reproduction project started by House Khaw and House Saret. The project, implemented through so-called 'home pregnancy kits' based on apomictic parthenogenesis, has been active for nearly a year now.
The released study shows the effects of the project over the past year, and projects the effects of the project in the future. The study shows that the overall ratio of males to females has shifted from 1.037 to 1.025 over the past year. The study shows a change from 1.0636 to 1.0535 for the veolian population, and a change from 0.898 to 0.876 for hemet veolians. Interestingly, the Twi'lek population remains largely unchanged, virtually maintaining a male to female ratio of 1.06.
The study projects that this trend continues, with a 10-year estimated ratio of 0.917, and a 20-year estimated ratio of 0.785.
Opponents of the project claim that the report shows conclusive evidence to halt the project. They claim that "this project will bring our species to extinction by making us dependant upon cybernetics for our very survival."

Hio - The Te'rikh-tukh Kiok rare elements company is celebrating it's thousand year anniversary. This big industrial and research company started with the refinery of Holmium. Over the years more rare elements like Dysprosium, Terbium and Gadolinium followed. It owns about 40% of all the mines and has both Exotic matter devices and Research facilities. With the anniversary they want to promote the rare elements industry.
"The last years the Hiocan Society has invested a lot in organics and metals. But we need to return to our roots and do where Hiocans are good in and that is working with rare elements."
Various request have been made to relocate some of the existing zone on Hio so they can specialize on rare element as to increase the industrial output.

Humanitarian crisis on Azaryan homeworld
Unity - The innumerable damage caused by the Mandalorian attacks on the Azaryan homeworld is still clearly visible - many buildings are still in rubble and the death-toll is beyond compare.
Still, as a bright light, private organizations have managed to get the famine and disease that were further tormenting the Azaryan people, even after the Mandalorian retreat, under control.
Despite this victory, however, Dr. Khan'Dor seems unhappy:
"This crisis could have been stopped much earlier, and many lives could have been spared if the Union governments were not so incredibly self-absorbed as to debate over more efficient piracy patrols, and discussions over who is or is not corrupt, while people are dying of starvation and disease.
They care only about themselves and their own profits! With the sole exception of the Hiocan Society, which selflessly sent a continuous flow of much needed relief goods - despite the fact that they were the hardest hit by this war after the Azaryans! Besides Senator Harek, none of the Senators in the Union seems to give one frack about the fate of Union citizens!"
Critics argued that the Veolian Commonwealth sent some goods as well, though this was countered by Dr. 'Dor saying that they did so only because a third party paid them for it.
With the famine and disease finally settled, however, the Azaryan people can begin the slow and arduous task of rebuilding.
Dr. Khan'Dor further commented:
"In the past, the Hiocan Society has been a beacon of hope for those subjugated by the Mandalorians. They give me hope that perhaps one day the rest of the Union will follow in their footsteps one day, but that day has come too late for many Azaryans. For shame."

One Corporation takes to market
Unity - A second large corporation has been gathering steam, powered by the IO Protocol. Uncreatively named "One Corporation", likely to contrast with also IO Sponsored competitor "Zero Corporation", One features a similar macro structure and motto, but focusses on basic information processing over raw data mining.
Amongst their products, One Corporation processes basic search queries, text translation and standardised user interfaces. This reporter suggests that it's naming scheme software may need some additional work before being ready for the market, however.

Unity - Earlier today Lady-Senator Maria Latharion was observed boarding a frigate of the Astrian Colonial Navy only moments before it departed for the Novalia System.
With no announcements or statements made by the ACA, there is no indication to the reason why she left so suddenly.
ACA correspondents on both Unity and Stellaria refused to comment when asked about the matter.

Grav-ball Finals!
Unity - The Grav-ball play-offs and subsequent rounds have completed and the time has come for the semi-finals and finals to be played! Four teams have made it to this glorious Union wide event, the Cardinals, Dancing Trees, Flaming Centipedes and Headhunters!
As always the bid for the hosting of the finals remains wrapped in secrecy so even the teams do not know which nation in the Union will host their matches, but press are already hot on the teams, hoping to cover every bit of news about the teams, their members and the finals. Exciting times ahead! Who will win the tournament?

Vaspa Indusries and Ahlstorm Enterprise join forces with new conglomerate

The first of its size in the Union, the Vaspa Ahlstorm Conglomerate is the first corporation to achieve size and level of specialisation necessary for the large-scale production of 
. The congolomerate has started operating in the star ship fuel and coolant gas areas of industry.
At the press conference just after opening the first two locations, a spokesperson for VAC stated that the conglomerate will soon be looking to branch out into neighbouring industries, and that new investors are already being sought for the next steps.

Increase of inter-species relations
Erau - The number of relationships between Hiocan and Humans has increased. It seems that the during the Mandalorian war the bond between the Humans and the Hiocans has increase as they fought together. As a result the wish for children of inter-species couples has increased and specialists from Mirda are coming to help. A whole delegation of the Veolian Commonwealth will come to the new build clinic and share their medical experience to aid inter-species couples in safe procreation.

Mirda - House Iaat issued a press release containing the yield prediction for this week: they expect an output of 800

House de Savony acquires majority share on survey fleet management and related technologies
Glasslyn - Earlier today House de Savony announced the acquisition of several smaller investment firms which own the Sundarian survey fleets and the intellectual property of any related technologies. Even though the Government still maintains operational control of the fleets during a state of emergency several parties with the government has begun to express concerns.
A spokesmen for the family commented: "We have seen the way our government and the smaller firms have managed the fleets thus far, we mean to do it better and actually make use of our fleets. In the coming days we will look into matter further and make the changes we deem necessary, one of which will most certainly be the cost of a lease by other members of the Union."

House Oronui wins bid for outpost exploitation rights
Glasslyn - Earlier today an advisory committee to the Economic oversight assembly recommended the business plan presented by several private investors, spearheaded by House Oronui, for the exploitation of the new, to build, Sundarian Outpost. After a short deliberation and discussion the assembly, chaired by Marquis Leandres Lafrioye è Koniova, adopted the committees recommendation and granted the bid.
The Marquis commented: "The detail and extend of the business plan and bid by House Oronui has far exceeded the others put to the table. Not granting them this bid, would not only be an oversight but would also damage the confidence of investors in our economical policy and decision-making."
A spokemen for the Oronui family commented: "We are pleased with the outcome today and we will make every effort to ensure the success of this prestigious and expensive project, which we hope to start as soon as possible."

The Olchazith Diamonds Arena space station will host the gravball finals!
Praeto - The Praetorian Empire has recently created a massive sports complex in space. The space station is located in orbit around Sardior. The Olchazith Diamonds Arena space station contains facilities for multiple large sports with in the centre of the space station a massive stadium that has a capacity for half a million seats and can host a gravball match.
Due to the directed artificial gravity that is used in all the spectator area's the field can literally be seen from every direction. Astrian Colonial Authority Lady-Senator retires
Unity - Today Lady-Senator Maria Latharion officially retired as the Astrian Colonial Authority's senator in the Union Senate. Representative Kachiso Doshima succeeds her as Lord-Senator.
The former Lady-Senator said that she wishes to spend more time with her family and that she has full confidence in the skill of her successor.
The new Lord-Senator followed by promising to represent the ACA to the best of his ability.
In a simultaneous announcement on Stellaria the Lord-Master thanked Maria Latharion for her services and devotion.

Vaspa Ahlstorm Conglomerate branches out into metals industry
Hio/Enthor/Rebenka - Just last week the conglomerate of Veolian-Astai origin branched out into the metals industry with the establishment of three branches supported by the Hiocan Society, the Unified Republic of Darya and the Astai Republic. With the conglomerate now counting five branches, the establishment of these three mining and enrichment corporations makes VAC the first corporate conglomerate spanning multiple worlds in the Union, and also the largest in terms of product diversity.
A spokesperson of VAC, Nehket Sajjana, told us that this is only the beginning: "With the establishment of the Ritsuri Mokev, CATANB and QuadraCorp branches we have taken the first step towards the strategic vertical integration of the metals and gasses industry under the VAC umbrella. Imperial Council called over results of Union Election
Mirda - The Veolian Imperial Council has been called together by the emperor after House Shebi and House Iaat called for a discussion on the results of the most recent Union election. Even though the election results show a very divided Union, House Shebi has called the election "a clear failure by House Nehket to ensure the continuity of leadership". House Iaat has a more nuanced opinion calling the results 'ambiguous' and saying "we would like to see what this declaration of sentietarian rights is before we pass judgement. After all, if the proposal does not reek of political pandering to the cyborgs, it might have actual merit.".
Analysts expect this council meeting to have a great influence on the internal politics of the Commonwealth, as the other great houses have always resented the fact that House Nehket, with their neutral stance, was awarded the honour of assigning a senator. Past events have further cemented this for most Houses, with the trade practices of House Nehket as the focal point for this anger.

Bozzy Spine precalculation arrays in active use after succesful testing period

of construction work on the Bozzy Spine, the first Union-built technological advance surpassing the original Bozzy Spine infrastructure has been actived. The project has been guided, designed and constructed with the aid of scientists and engineers from all over the Union.
The system, dubbed JTE for 'Jump Trajectory Efficiency', consists of a network of hyperspace-anchored measuring stations along the Bozzy Spine. Each measuring stations is used to calibrate precalculation arrays that improve jump trajectory estimates used to common routes along the Bozzy Spine. After rigorous testing of the system in the final week of construction, it has been found to perform within specifications and has been activated for public use. In tandem with the activation of the JTE system, the bill to lower Tax Bracket 1 to 10% has been enacted.

Astrians officially take control of their own evolution
Stellaria - Today Astrians have officially taken control of their own evolution when the longest philosophical debate in Astrian history was finally concluded after 7 years.
The debate, centred around the question of whether or not the modern Astrian cyborgs should be considered a new species, started just over 7 years ago after the last non-cyborg Astrian died. Because of the immensely divided opinions on the subject a conclusion remained unattainable for such this period. The debate featured several hundred gatherings over the years. Each gathering attracted a multitude of scientists, philosophers, religious parties and politicians, as well as different members of the general public and local celebrities. A total of 393 votes where taken, non of which gave a conclusive consensus among the debaters.
Today, during the 568th debate, the stalemate was finally broken when an overwhelming majority voted in favour of the notion. The reason for the sudden change of heart was said to be the results of a recent study, showing the increasing amount of cybernetics Astrians have is slowing down the natural evolution of the Astrian species, by most participants.
Due to the results of the vote the former Astrian species, Astria lecthiria, has now been officially declared extinct and the modern Astrian has been named Astria cyberthia.
