Teprogrenaian Consensus opens up weapons market a little

Dhiahamara - For the first time since the Teprogrenaian Consensus entered the Union, they are starting to more freely export their weapons. From now on, the Teprogrenaian Consensus will be selling all their weapons to the Union members who are also allowed to buy Teprogrenaian Capital ships. After long discussion, consensus was reached that this was a logical and acceptable trade policy.

This policy will be the start of an ongoing experiment. If these new trade opportunities are successful, and deals involving Teprogrenaian weapons don't affect crime in a negative way, the Consensus will look into opening up their weapons market for all Union Faction governments.

The Military Consults says they knew a long time this would come. Danar Mia, Headmaster of Teprogrenaian ship yards supplies says: "Of course we should allow factions to buy our weapons. I mean, we could not sell a turbolaser quad cannon, but we could when it was attached to a fully movable platform? That just didn't made any sense." And the whole Consensus agrees with Mia as it seems, as the policy is changed.

The whole discussion took 42 turn, and near the end, every person had on average 5 meetings a week which took about 10 minutes each.

Protests on Enthor over high Union taxes

Enthor - Millions of people marched in cities all over Enthor last night amongst dissatisfaction with the high taxes being paid by the population. The Astai Republic transfers the union taxes through to the citizens, causing some citizens to now pay 60% of all their additional money effectively to the Union.

We questioned an angry protester in Union Square on Kefalel: "I pay nearly half of my income to the government now, and the taxes just keep on getting higher. At this rate pretty soon I'm going to have to save up in nano (:kelwaraan-credits) to buy bread next week. What is the Union even doing with all our money, what have they done for us lately?!"

Senator Atheos was called back by the government and has held a speech promising funds to be devoted to higher standards of living amongst all citizens of the Astai Republic.

Temporary industrial Crystals developments on Kelwar

Kelwar - Several weapons manufacturers based on Kelwar have pooled their resources together and attracted funding from an anonymous investor to start up a complex of (:crystals) growing plants on Kelwar. A spokeswoman representing the group of weapons producers commented:

"With the expected increase in available high-energy (:gasses) it makes sense to look toward economical opportunities for their use other than the fabrication of (:utilities). We are aware of the Union-wide development of expansive (:crystals) corporations, and as such this is only a temporary measure until we can get in touch with a provider that can supply the high quality (:crystals) that we require for the production of our high-end (:weapons) series."

Consensus suffers from failed power saving experiments

Sacarerantes – Several industrial sectors within the Teprogrenaian Consensus suffer for turns in a row as a result from power failures. The power grid of the Consensus was already highly under stress for quite a while now, due to the fast growing industries but lack of adequate growth required to support the increasing demand of power. Newly built facilities on Sacarerantes were equipped with innovative factories which should have been highly energy efficient. This was part of a plan to not further increase the stress on the power net too much. However the factories did not hold up to their promises, and did require even more power than anticipated at the normal factories would consume. Energy from Dhiahamara and Samahadrahac has to be transferred to the factories on Sacarerantes in order to keep the industries running. This renders many mining operations and many factories with power issues, forcing them to operate on a very low efficiency or not at all.

Many factories are closed due to the power outage, sending over 38 000 employees on a forced vacation. The Workers Welfare Consult says this is outrageous, as the workers are not getting paid for their vacations. The manufacturing and the mining Consults claim they miss millions of credits of income as a result of the power outages. The high Economical Consult say that the sales of the Consults are unaffected as the calculation models show that there is no market for the products anyway at this moment. They also claim that the unpaid vacations are within the agreements made 26 years ago, were employees are offered leave of absence in case of unforeseen problems, like power outages. However the Workers Welfare Consult is convinced that the power failures could have been foreseen way ahead, and that the Economical Consults are only using this occurrence in order not to pay the employees. The Workers Welfare Consult even dares to go as far that the Economical Consults are working together with the employers and that the ‘energy efficient factories’ are only a ploy in order to fulfill the rules of agreement made 26 years ago.

Plans to build new power plants will take turns before actually going into effect and estimated is that such projects will combined cost up to 2000 (:tax) to complete. However, the high Economical Consult say that this won’t let them stop and that providing power is the first priority now.

Hiocan business is growing

Hio - The Hiocan business is booming as a second corporation is founded. The Vaspa Ahlstorm Conglomerate (VAC) is doing fast business in the Unoin on (:gas) and (:metals) related raw materials and products and various branches are founded. The new sponsored VAC Torvaya Oigen (:conmats) branch will be able to use the VAC Ritsuri Mokev (:metals) as a base.
All these activities have put great pressure on the Hiocan Societies business centre. They are unable to keep up to the fast intergalactic market. There is no time to throughly discuss this and money is lost.

Amird's ambitious Eden World project

Amird - Amird
Image
, a world known for its red mountain ranges and extensive megarefineries, has completed its first step in an ambitious multi-stage project to become the Union's first fully designed Eden World. The project aims to transform Amird from a barren industrial world to a living world where the industrial and natural aspects of the ecosystem are in balance. This first step stabilized the planet's atmosphere and introduces natural life on top op the gas extraction and refining superstructure.

Based on Hiocan recycling expertise and Remunzian eco-system knowledge, a new ecosystem is designed to exist harmony with the extensive industry on the planet, by taking into account recycling efforts and the natural habitats of the different introduced species. Specifically designed refinery creatures and plants coexist in the same environment with these massive industrial plants, living in a kind of symbiosis that increases the efficiency and survivability of both the industry and the species.

Only now has it become clear why specific design choices were made in the past as several of the megarefineries changed from what several business analysts described as "designed with unprofitable and inefficient veolian arrogance" to a unique natural environment where pipes and valves are as normal as trees and insects.

Cassandra shares conflict between House Dewa and House Shebi nears conclusion

Mirda - House Dewa and House Shebi have been in an ongoing court battle for control over 6% of the shares of the Cassandra Holdings corporation acquired by the Veolian Commonwealth as part of the initial public offer. After the final hearing, of several court hearings over the last eight months, magistrate Nispaksa Saral has called for the judges to deliberate on the presented arguments and present their ruling.

The outcome is all but clear as both parties presented numerous arguments: House Shebi maintains their primary argument that their shares combined with the 6% share package would oust the Sundarian Federation as the largest shareholder, putting them in place as the chairman of the board, allowing an immediate call for revision of the currently undistributed 'left over' dividends.

House Dewa has presented their case with a view on the long term, citing their strong presence on the intergalactic currency and investment market as a solid basis from which to build up a stronger position for the Commonwealth in the Union's markets. They agree that Cassandra Holdings is, in their words, "losing potential dividends faster than a hemorrhaging rancor loses blood", but that the position of chairman is in no way needed to address the issue.

House Dewa wins in conflict for Cassandra shares

Mirda - This afternoon magistrate Nispaksa Saral, after having received the opinions of the involved judges, presented the final verdict to the Emperor as he was walking from the gardens to his chambers. Soon thereafter the verdict was made public. After a long court battle for control over the remaining 6% of shares held by the Veolian Commonwealth, they share package was finally appointed to House Dewa.

Allthough this puts House Dewa and House Shebi on roughly equal footing with regards to their investment in public corporations, analysts are quick to point out that House Dewa is the sole owner of the very succesful Kelwaraan Bank.

Rush on comics and holo series

Dhiahamara - This week has been a massive rush on comics and holo series from the Astrian Colonical Authority. The ACA has declared to stop trading these entertaining goods to the Teprogrenaian Consensus. As a result, many fans of the typically drawn series of comics and holovideos tried in a rush to obtain the very last available data disks and holopads before they are disappeared from the stores. Within days the prices of the last editions rose sky high but nevertheless the stores ran out anyway.

There has been cry outs from the fans to finish the current ongoing series and not let them hang in suspense indefinitely and several petitions have been started to make this happen. However it is not expected that this will work according to the Economical Consult. They emphasize that the problem is not that the Astrian writers stop their work, but that the ACA simply refuses to them sell any more to the Consensus.

The stop of selling comics and animated series is part of a trade embargo from the ACA to the Teprogrenaian Consensus as result from a political conflict. So far, the Political Consult have not yet given a public statement about this conflict, as they 'don't fully understand the reasoning and actions from the ACA ourselves. The ACA feel betrayed by the Consensus and therefore refuse to trade with us of the Consensus. We are currently working on getting to the bottom of is and searching for a solution.'

In the meantime, new startup ventures have already emerged, trying to continue the delivery of the most popular series via the holonet from other sources. However, the prices will be higher.

House Dewa expands: Fleet Zone immediately mothballed

Kelwar - The fleet zone constructed at the behest of house Dewa, presumably for the support of their first formal fleet, has been mothballed immediately after construction has finished. Instead of manning the military base and space port the veolian noble house has opted to keep minimal staff present and shut down many parts of the brand new military facility.

Analysts are puzzled by the move, as many expected house Dewa to use their wealth to quickly establish their own military fleet. As it stands now, the house has made no further moves towards actually establishing a fleet. House Dewa is not available for comments.

Breaking News! Riots at Teprogrenaian Capital city!

Dhiahamara -
Image
This day, riots have broken out in Aurian, the capital city of Dhiahamara. Riot police have been dispatched, but it is expected that it will take the whole evening before things settle down again. The riots started as a peaceful protest of humans, twi'lek, veolians and other races against the heavy discrimination in the city against non-Teprogrenaians, when at a certain point the unrest grew to the point where the protesters started a riot.

What the exact cause was is unclear. Some say it was the Teprogrenaian police who too aggressively tried to keep the protest in order. The Aurian Police Consult, which falls under the Military Consult, claims that they have not used any excessive violence and that the protesters refused to orderly and decently make their march. Given the chaos on streets at this moment, we have been unable to get a view from the other side.

After up-scaling the amount of police and the initial chaos, the head of police in Aurian quickly came with a public response: "Today, a peaceful demonstration have fallen into chaos. Despite several warnings to stay calm, and despite the promise of the protest initiators to keep an orderly march, the aliens broke out into shouting, aggression and even violence. We do all we can to keep the chaos contained in a few streets, and to return peace to the city."

partially because of the discussions in the Union senate about sentient rights and slavery, more protests were planned for in the coming weeks. If these protests are still allowed seems yet to be seen.

Dhiahamara -
Once again, the monsoon which hits Dhiahamara every year is approaching. It is expected that the rain and storms will last nearly two weeks before the planet calms down. The monsoon arrives not a day too early, as the lakes and water reservoirs in the mountains are reaching alarming low levels. All work within the Consensus will continue and the export will continue. Only direct communications with the planet will be unavailable during the storm season.

High level meetings at the ACA or a high society party? Rumours and facts

Stellaria
- It was quite the sight to behold, to the point it caused a small delay in orbital traffic. Yesterday ships from the Divine Nova Triage, the Bluethread Financial Group and non-other then Shadow of War himself were seen docked at Orion space station, where the ACA government resides including the Lord-Master.

The area was swarming with ships from the Colonial Navy, who had likely deployed every ship they had available.

Rumours have rapidly spread throughout ACA territory, ranging from laughably to outright ridicules. The most popular rumour dismisses it all as a simple private party. However a rumour that the head of Colonial Intelligence was also present has led to speculation that this was actually a meeting between the five most powerful groups in the ACA.

Rumours are continuing as no statement has been made by any of the reported parties.

New chairwoman for the Bluethread Financial Group

Stellaria
- Today Dana Lantria Asillion became the new chairwoman of the senior partners of the Bluethread Financial Group.

That was the announcement made by a spokesperson for the largest private investment group in the Astrian Colonial Authority. The Bluethread Group assigns the role of chairman or chairwoman based on the total monetary value of the owned assets by a member. The member with the highest value is given the job.

Newly presented figures showed that miss Asillion stands about 42 billion credits above the previous chairman. She was given the reigns of the investment groups affairs after the figures were double checked against tax records.

Paired with the announcement was the dismissal of the CEO of the Crystalline Optics Concern, Gerald Odarian. Who is also the father of miss Asillion. There is some speculation he was fired by his own daughter.

Miss Asillion was unavailable for comment, undoubtedly busy in her new position as the most powerful woman in the ACA economy.

Sensational News: Senator Acehtoo's vehicle hit by bus!

Unity -
Breaking news, this is Burr Bur, reporting live from the scene of an accident in which Senator Acehtoos vehicle was hit by a bus.

In a tragic accident, it appears a Unity City bus-driver made an error in estimating the angle and distance of a corner, causing his bus to scrape the vehicle, leaving a 20 centimetre long dent on the side of the hood.

Image

After the accident, the bus-driver pulled over and exchanged insurance information with Senator Acehtoo's driver. A check-up by this reporter suggests that the bus-drivers employer is fully covered for minor damage such as this, and as such the Senator can expect full reimbursement from the insurance company for any necessary repairs.

According to an official press release, the Senator herself was nowhere near her vehicle at the time of the accident, and as such she was not harmed by the collision.

Adii Nasla Settlement infrastructure completed

Mirda - The necessary infrastructure construction to start settling the Adii Nasla System has been completed. After over half a year of surveying in (:hex) 10 -4 the Adii Nasla system was found as a potential location for the colony. Detailed surveying showed that the system will not only support a simple colony, but is of sufficient economic value to support a full settlement. With over half of the workable worlds in goldilocks orbits, the system appears to be diamond in the rough.

Image
(Diagram of the Adii Nasla System; high res version)
The Adii Nasla system is centered around the twin active suns Mithuna and Rasi. The system's main economic features are the jovian giant Irdara, orbitted by several moons in goldilocks orbit, and the presence of the metals and minerals rich Thikara Belt.

The system also features the medium planet Nayi in goldilocks orbit. It was discovered during surveying that the planet's unique surface structure is not conductive to rapid development. Geologists are currently investigating the planet to determine the process that formed the planet's nearly continuous mountain ranges, jagged plateaus and strange rock formations all over the globe.

Immediately after the site was deemed acceptable for colonisation, engineers started construction of the settlements basic infrastructure: communications nodes, space docks and navigational buoys were deployed. With the help from superstructure components imported from other Union worlds the settlement's infrastructure has been completed in record time. With the necessary infrastructure in place, the colonisation of the Adii Nasla System can begin!

Commonwealth calls for daring colonists to settle Asla

Mirda - The Veolian Commonwealth, and house Dewa and Khaw in particular, have started a massive campaign to recruit colonists to settle the Adii Nasla system. The campaign is a combination of a mass media and holonet campaigns to inform and advertise, and a set of tax incentives and subsidies.

The mass media campaign targets feelings of adventure and the bold claim that being a colonists improves ones fitness as a mate, even though the Adii Nasla system as surveyed is devoid of life so any potential mates would also be colonists. House Dewa is clearly intent on being a driving force for colonisation, and has made allusions to considering marriage negotiations with the most succesful colonists. This has gotten them some ridicule from the other great houses, and it is expected that their allusions are only a media stunt.

The tax incentives are far-reaching, offering serious tax breaks for the first 2 billion colonists and greatly subsidizing costs for migration. Among the tax breaks are life-long exemption from hovercar taxes and a reduced rate of property tax. Additionally, every noble family that migrates is granted rights to lay mining claims on the Thikara belt.

Analysts estimate that given the current population of Mirda and the attractiveness of migration, the migration rate can increase to 0.1 (:pop) per (:turn), leading to the first 2 billion colonists settling in a matter of 20 (:turns).
