Purgatory opens Senators' Lounge

Unity City - Purgatory has opened the doors of its new Senators' Lounge. The Senators' Lounge has been designed to accommodate the more refined tastes of the Union's senators. Through careful investigation the Purgatory management has determined that a large segment of the current senators does not frequent Purgatory because of the atmosphere and the implied activities. Because of this, though the Senators' Lounge is accessible from the club itself, it has a separate entrance. Purgatory's management has told us that they expect a significant increase in patronage.

Mandalorian Taxation

Sector 4 -7 -
A wave of fear goes through the sector as the Mandalorian Fleets have increased taxes, which for the people in this region means they are robbed of more possessions than usual.

Many have gone into hiding or have started making secret stockpiles, despite Mandalorian messages that any efforts to hide produce from them is futile and will result in bombardments. Various humanitarian institutions in the Union have spoken of a bleak outlook as they are powerless to act.

Unrest on Mirda

Mirda -
Racial tensions between Twi'lek refugees and Veolian nationals are running high, leading to casualties on both sides. On the densely populated planet, competition in low level jobs runs high as the sudden influx of population is causing additional competition between workers.

Rumour has it the Twi'lek population is gathering arms and organizing into gangs and are competing with native gangs for control of various criminal enterprises. The Twi'lek gangs are reported to be extremely violent.

Mirda officials have not yet responded with an official declaration on the issue, but low level law enforcement this morning made an official request to the government to act with extreme prejudice to control the threat.

House Militias remain calm

Mirda - In response to the rumours of large-scale organized crime activity, the head of the Commonwealth Domestic Security Corps issued the following statement: "We are aware of the rumours, but currently that is just what they are: rumours. At this moment we have no information to indicate that a racially oriented gang-war is going on. Regardless, we take the domestic security of Mirda serious, and have started an investigation nonetheless." The head of the CDSC appeared stressed, and seemed to be in a hurry.

Though Mirda does not know a police force as most Union worlds have, The CDSC is an overarching organisation of cooperating house militias and multiple smaller organizations that work together to form a police force. The organisation is funded by the six houses, and can call upon the different house militias to coordinate raids or other police activities.

Teprogrenaian crime lord in Unity City?

Dhiahamara - For a long time it has been silent around the crime lord Human Tarina. The human who is supposedly the head of a large crime syndicate on Dhiahamara. Now the Watch, the overarching organisation responsible for peacekeeping the cities on Dhiahamara, claims to have indications that she might be in Unity City.

She is suspected of extortion, drugs dealing, various disappearances and falsifying documents and titles. Though to the present day none of the accusations have been proven to directly link to her.

The Watch does not know why she would go to Unity City, as it is unlikely that she is fleeing according to the Watch. The Unity City authorities have been informed of her possible presence.

The photo secretly taken by the Watch four years ago of Tarina with one of her known associates, Fecta Regir, who was arrested three years ago for smuggling weapons but released due to lack of proof.

Sundarian Federation announces an expansion of her Scanning Fleets

Later this week the Sundarian Federation will complete the final modifications to a second Scanning and Survey Fleet, which will then be operational.

Image

The ships are newly commissioned, using highly modern designs custom build by the Astai Republic, outfitted with latest technology on navigation, scanning, mapping and probes, build by the crafty scientists of the Sundarian Federation. Their highly specialized crews have received their training and they are now ready to provide their services Union-wide.

Lady de Montrève comments: " With this second fleet, the Sundarian Federation is well under way to expand her knowledge of the universe and we should be able to provide more services to Union members. Also important is to note that this second fleet also expands our capabilities to assist the Union Military with reliable information on enemy fleet positions and movement. "

Veolian crime boss fleeing to Unity City?

Unity City - Rumour has it that the alleged Veolian crime boss Aparadh Malikar plans to visit Unity City. The CDSC presumes that his plans are due to the increased violence in Veolian criminal circles.

Arapadh Malikar has been associated with multiple large criminal enterprises, not the least of which are a smuggling ring focussed on cybernetic goods and illegal slave trade. With the exception of a single conviction of slave tax evasion he has not been charged with further charges. CDSC offcials have also associated his wife, Aparadh Hatyārā, with a commonwealth-wide assassination syndicate but, as with her husband, the CDSC lacks substantial evidence to prove her involvement in any of the disappearances she has been associated with.

The only indication that the rumors hold any truth is the sighting of his second in command in the capital of the Union. It is unclear what his, or his boss's motivation would be to go to Unity City, but the CDSC has informed Unity security.

Veolian Geo-engineers complete Cailean Terraformation project

Cailean - After a careful preparation and the creation of a thin atmosphere, Veolian Geo-engineers have succesfully introduced bacteria, fungi and smaller animals to Cailean. While this new ecosystem is still very fragile and will need careful monitoring for a substantial period so that the precarious balance is not disturbed, Veolian Geo-engineers have declared it an success and have finished their work on Cailean, as it is now 'in nature's hands'.

The prestigious project, envisioned by the Sundarian Council, has now been completed and the Sundarian Council is most pleased with the outcome. Lord Leandres, Chairmen of the economical oversight committee, commented: " While this project has cost us a fair share of tax, we feel it has been a worthwhile investment because the Sundarian people and her economy will benefit from this substantially. And perhaps more importantly, this project has shown that the Veolian Commonwealth does indeed have the needed expertise to conduct such delicate processes, which is in it self a marvellous achievement for which they are to be congratulated. Mandalorian Taxation

Sector 5 -7
- A story of horror reached the Union today as refugees speak of a military operation by the Mandalorian Fleets obliterating a settlement of over a million people from orbit after they claim the settlers did not pay them enough tribute. Many humans living on Erau in the Hiocan system of My'enru have expressed their horror and fear that the fleets will soon start moving outside of traditional Mandalorian Territory to get the resources they apparently need.

Protests on Mirda

Mirda
- Tensions between Twi'lek and Veolians continue to increase after a recent protest ran afoul of security forces. A group of Twi'lek protesters grabbed sticks, clubs and knives and assaulted security officers trying to stop them from plundering a small local hospital.

Though the matter is still being investigated, it appears the protesters arrived at the hospital to demand an explanation for the death of a Twi'lek child earlier that day. The child, who according to official records died of trauma after a fall from a balcony, was believed by protesters to have been killed by Veolian doctors because they deemed it to 'no longer be in perfect health'.

Veolian officials have strongly denied accusations that the Veolian Commonwealth by policy murders injured children, but recent events in the Union Senate surrounding newly born children are likely to have contributed to these tensions.

The Djana research centre, located in the Niras system in sector 10 -5 near the border to the sector of Unity, is a facility jointly operated by the Unified Republic of Darya, the Teprogrenaian Consensus, and the Veolian Commonwealth. In an interesting career move, the facility will be led by Bolv'ar Ngyx, former chancellor and senator of Excaria.

Allthough the actual projects that have been started in the facility are kept secret, it has been made public that the facility is intended as a development bed for prototypes and cutting edge technological advances.

Circle of unorthodox Praetorians fined for trying to buy humans!

Praeto - A small circle of unorthodox Praetorians has been fined when they tried to buy humans. The Praetorian Trade Emporium housed on Praeto reacted on a hint from border control on the Astai border.

A spokesperson from the Praetorian Trade Emporium stated that such actions are bad for business since there is a huge political interest in the Astai Republic.

The reprimanded Praetorians responded: "This is a ridiculous fine. Praetorians can freely buy cows and do with them what they want, why are they making such an issue out of this?"

Hiocan planned economy comes to end

Hio – The Hiocan trade office is relieved as trade has become free again. The high council had planned on what the Hiocan economy should do with the Union subsidy. This was done to ensure a stable economy. Various zones have been build and steps were taken to construct a Lagrange conduit point. This has all been done successfully and a solid infrastructure has been set up. But merchants have complained about this as their freedom to make deals where limited. Now the restriction are lifted and there is free trade.

While we appreciate their view on matters, we feel no immediate need to be associated with either world, and we accept clients from any faction, regardless of their political alliances."

Child not murdered

Mirda -
An investigation by Mirdan Security Forces, cooperating closely with the Twi'lek Kiva's determined no foul play in the recent death of a Twi'lek child. A Twi'lek mob attacked a hospital after the child died, after rumours suggested that the doctors had killed the child for no longer being healthy. The investigation determined that the child died of its injuries and that the medical staff was not to blame. Despite this outcome, tensions between Twi'leks and Veolians remain high, with many questioning the outcome of the investigation.

The director of the hospital, mister Ciitak, had the following to say: "Despite current rumours, we will always offer medical aid to those that need it. I regret the death of the baby, and we will keep doing what we can to save the children of those parents that ask for help."

First Terraformation project in the Smi-Halek system

Mirda - A spokeswoman of House Saret announced the first terraformation project within the Smi-Halek system: the surface heating of Amird-An.

The large moon orbiting the large-scale gasses world Amird is host to a multitude of refinement businesses and power plants, and forms an important part of the Commonwealth's utilities and infrastructure industries. Analysts predict that this is only the first in a series of projects in the Smi-Halek system, as the production of terraformation modules has been steadily improving over the past eight weeks.

Most noble houses reacted positive to the initiation of the project, though for differing reasons. House Dewa responded directly, and somewhat surprisingly criticized the imperial house: "We are glad that the council has been able to reach this decision. The fact that other worlds are improved while house Saret fills their coffers has not been lost on us."

House Iaat responded in a different vein, with Duke Iaat stating "I am glad that this step is being taken. I foresee a bright future for the Commonwealth once we start to improve our other worlds. This will be a great impulse to the local economy."

Early start summer preparations on Stellaria.

Stellaria
- The preparations for the summer on Stellaria have started much earlier than usual. The Science Board said in a press conference that the summer this year will be longer and hotter than usual do to a longer alignment with Lianee, an event that occurs only once every 3000 years.

According to the calculations made by the Science Board temperatures will be higher than ever recorded and will last for seven months, four months longer than usual. They assured the population that the systems that keep them able to live and work during summer can handle the longer exposure and temperatures.

A travel advisory has been issued for the summer period, warning people to remain inside the protected areas and that in the event they should leave these areas to wear specialized protective gear at all times. Failure to heed these warnings can result in third degree burns over the entire body, radiation sickness and death.

Toy manufacturer on Mirda starts production of Jedi Plushies

Mirda -
Image
The popular 'Fecta Trigiel' plushie
A small toy-making company on Mirda has started producing pluche dolls of well-known Jedis. "We hope to inspire children to grow up to emulate the paragons of justice, honesty, and personal power", stated one of the creators of the plushies.

The company reports that the 'Fecta Trigiel' plushie is the most popular plushie at the moment. "Kids love the Fecta Trigiel plushie because they can easily cast him as a bad guy -- he was kicked out of flight school and is known to be impulsive. And next to that he is a cyborg, so it is understandable that kids want to see him."

Image
A 'Shebi Ajava' plushie
The 'Shebi Ajava' plushie seems to be very popular as well, but the company cites different reasons. "We think that a lot of parents that purchase the 'Shebi Ajava' plushie for their kids would love their kids to grow up and emulate her."

An independent marketing company has commented that "The plushies are a stroke of genius. It enhances the awareness of the importance of the role of Jedi, while at the same time allowing children to come into contact with other races and cultures."

The toy manufacturer has announced that it will see about increasing its range of products to include well-known political figures, and possibly a senate building doll house.

IO Protocol leading the Information Revolution

ECCE -
The world of ECCE, so named by a collection of artificial intelligence programs that have their hardware located on the surface, features no intelligent life by current legal standards.

Despite of this, the artificial intelligence software running there has caused a revolution in the way information is gathered and sold, if only by the sheer volume they provide to the Union as raw materials for the development of research, ICT technologies and entertainment. The IO Protocol, the name the artificial intelligence programs use to refer to themselves, is currently exporting almost 3000 (:information) every (:turn).

As of yet no claims of ownership of the AI software has been made by any individual or faction, which allows the IO Protocol to continue to operate in the Union through a special law made for their benefit and which has already proven itself to be beneficial to the Union economy as a whole.

Many believe the programs may have been started centuries ago, their owners being destroyed in the Times of Chaos, leaving none to claim ownership. As the cost of taking the system by force is outweighed by the economic benefits that can be gained by befriending the software, the Union continues to hold them as members, even without officially recognising them as being alive.

Whatever the future may hold, it is clear that the IO Protocol is capable of delivering on its promise to "improve Pareto efficiency through cooperation".

Royal family of Scir returns!

Scir
- Unsubstantiated rumours suggest that a member of the royal family of the Interregnum Democracy of Scir has returned to their world after many centuries to claim their rightful place as ruler of the system!

If this rumour proves to be true, this would be the biggest revolution in government on Scir since the disappearance of the royal family those eons ago.

As an established and old democracy, this rumour has been met with scepticism and confusion amongst the population, but the rumour is both persistent and specific.

Government officials have refused to comment on the rumour, adding further fuel to the fire of the otherwise very open civil servants. More news to follow as the situation develops!

New technology put to the test

Glasslyn - Only a week after finalizing the upgrades and a few moments after the start up of the new passive hyperspace scanning array on the fleet Edge of Darkness the Sundarian Council has commissioned the fleet for active duty at the request of the Minister of Defence.

High Lord Yllia comments: "Our first tests with the new array have shown that everything works as it should. The council has since received a request from the ministry of Defence to help monitor the Mandalorian fleet movements in order to better protect the Union border. I am glad to announce that the council has unanimously decided to grant the minister's request."

While little further information about this new array is given by the chancellery, several researchers have called it a revolution in monitoring hyperspace space. The array has been said to be sensitive enough to monitor a much larger area, which rumoured to be not only the sector the fleet is in, as with normal arrays, but all the surrounding sectors with the same reliability.

Royal claims throne on Scir!

Scir -
After nine centuries of democracy, today the government of Scir announced its official dissolution, transferring all governmental powers to the new royal ruler and changing the nation from a democracy into an absolute monarchy once again, despite heavy protests amongst the population.

Scir became a democracy almost a millennium ago after the royal family disappeared but recent rumours were confirmed that a member of the royal family had returned and the Jedi have since confirmed this is indeed the rightful heir to the Scir throne.

As part of the change, the Interregnum Democracy of Scir was dissolved to form the successor state which shall be known as the Restored Kingdom of Scir with the new King - in honour of the old traditions - taking on the name of Reversus the First of Scir.

As heavy protests continue, the king has announced he will give the people some time to cool off and that he will not involve the army to bring the protests to a halt as of yet.
