((OOC: This topic is private to the Sundarian Federation and the Veolian Commonwealth. It was started through [ Mail ] To Her Imperial Majesty Empress Saret Neferti.))

As the members of the house Lafrioye è Koniova stepped out of the parked hovercar, it became clear to them that the woman waiting for them was the senator of the Veolian Commonwealth.

"Marquis, Marchioness Lafrioye è Koniova, Lady Koniova, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Veolian Embassy", she said after a bow to the couple and their daughter. "If you would please follow me."

As they walked, the Veolian senator continued. "Her imperial majesty has informed me that she looks forward to meeting you."

The walk was short, uneventful and provided ample of time for the sundarian nobles to ask questions should they wish to do so.

Finally, after being led through a number of rooms, the Veolian senator motioned for them to continue on into a spacious room decorated as a either a living room or a lounge, depending on your definition of the word.

"Thank you Senator," the Marchioness replied as they were greeted upon arrival, "we are very honoured to be here."

Both the Marchioness and Lady Alexandra wore elegant red dresses that were similar in design and were both ornamented with the heraldry of the house Lafrioye è Koniova. In addition Alexandra wore a set of white ribbons, adorned with white flowers in her hair and on her right wrist. Her mother however, had only a single white ribbon woven into her hair and wore a signet ring bearing the crest of the Koniova family on her right ring finger.

The Marquis was dressed in his black ceremonial armour, featuring the Lafroiye crest on his chest in red, complement with a crimson red cape, leg- and arm-guards. On his belt he wore his ceremonial sword, which had a small ruby fitting at the bottom of the hilt. He also carried a small, thin box made of blue suède, adorned with a white ribbon bow and embroided with fine details in gold.

As they were rushed into the lounge that had been prepared for them, they hardly had the time to take in some of the splendor of the Veolian Embassy, let alone to ask any questions or think. They just let it happen.. not sure what to expect.

After a little while, a purple-skinned twi'lek entered the room. With the twi'lek, two hooded women entered the room as well. Alexandra recognized the twi'lek as one of the empress' favoured slaves. She had seen the woman speaking with high nobility in the Sundarian embassy a few weeks ago. Her two escorts were clearly military, but they carried no insignia or visible logos.

As the twi'lek woman approached the nobles, the other two positioned themselves in the room in such a way that they practically blended in with the room's furniture.

"Marquis, Marchioness Lafrioye è Koniova, Lady Koniova", the twi'lek said after she greeted the family with a deep bow. "My mistress has sent me to inform you that she has been delayed by a message from her husband, and that she will be joining you shortly."

"Is there aything I can do for you in the meanwhile?"

The Marquis and Marchioness only nodded in acknowledgement of the welcome by Tayu Shanora as they sat down to wait. Alexandra however, was a little less reserved and said:

"We are very pleased to here Tayu," she said with a warm smile, "and we don't mind to wait a bit. A message from his Imperial Majesty should always take precedence."

Shen then continued to ask about Tayu's stay at the Sundarian Embassy during the interviews with several noble ladies for a position on Mr. Pendra's retinue.

"Tell me, if you would, what did you think of our Sundarian nobility during your time at our Embassy? They are quite a variety, aren't they? Was it what you expected or ..?" Obviously Alexandra was a little nervous, it was hard to miss. Even her mother looked at her as she rambled on, sighing heavily and softly shaking her head.

"I enjoyed meeting noblewomen from the Sundarian Federation. It was interesting to hear how the veolian culture is viewed by others, though I think that my short visit did not do the sundarian culture justice."

The Tayu's expressions was soft.

"To be honest, it was much more than I expected. It appears as if variety is a way of life for the sundarians, even in things one would not expect. I can, of course, not tell you any details on what was discussed between me and lady de Montrève."

A moment after Shanora had finished her sentence, an albino veolian woman walked into the room, flanked by another two hooded women. Alexandra immediately recognized her as the empress.

"Marquis, Marchioness, Lady", she simply said by way of greeting after she gave a polite nod.

"Your Imperial Majesty," Alexandra responded as she and her mother curtsied, "It is a pleasure to meet you again, and present my parents to you."

Her father the Marquis said nothing, but simply saluted the Empress, after which he nodded. He was a proud man, but he could immediately sense why his daughter had felt this women was worthy of her respect. The empress had a certain air of authority about her and yet she appeared friendly and graceful.

Alexandra's mother however seemed to waver a bit as she awaited the response of her husband, before she would commit to any further actions. Though his nod was only subtle, she looked back the Empress with a smile and a slight blush on her cheeks.

"Lady Koniova, the pleasure is mine.", she replied to Alexandra, "Please, do introduce your parents."

The empress remained standing for the time being. She noted the silence of both Sundarian nobles, and the blush on the cheeks of Alexandra's mother.

"I'd be delighted your Majesty," Alexandra answered as she rose and stepped over the side of the Veolian Empress to face her parents as she introduced them. While her father would probably punish her later for not follow 'proper' protocol, she started by introducing her mother first.

"May I present my mother, the Marchioness de Lafrioye né Koniova."

Her mother then greeted the Empress with a soft smile and a polite answer before kissing her on both cheeks if permitted.

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Marchioness.", the empress simply replied. She did nothing to stop the woman from kissing her on both cheeks.

"The pleasure and privilege are all mine, your Majesty." The marchioness responded, " and I thank you for the chance you offering my daughter. And I trust that she will do well in your care."

After that her mother stepped back and Alexandra introduced her father, the Marquis.
"Your Majesty, may I present my father, Marquis Leandres de Lafrioye."

The marquis greeted the Empress properly, but would not kiss her if that could be avoided. As far as he was concerned, his wife had already done more then was appropriate. But since it was his daughter's wish, he had allowed it.

The empress did not seem to expect the marquis to say much at all. She seemed very happy with the simple bow he executed.

"Marquis, it is an honour to meet you.", she replied after a short bow back.

"Please, let's sit.", she subtle gestured to the seating area of the room. The area was tastefully decorated, with seating arrangements allowing four to be seated around the low table. The seats are a two person couch, and two chairs in the same style as the couch, one chair was positioned on the side of the table opposing the couch, and one to the left of the couch (and therefore to right of the opposing chair).

The empress sat down on the two person couch, casting an expectant glance at the marchioness.

"Thank you, your majesty," Alexandra said as she ushered her family to their seats, with her father facing the Empress in the chair across the table and her mother, who had caught the Empress' expecting glance, next to the Empress on the couch.

She was glad her father had been cooperative so far, though she knew he wasn't pleased at all. Her mother however seemed to rather enjoy her new 'role' a bit too much, perhaps so much that, once back home, she would suggest a few 'changes'..

After all the nobles were seated, the purple-skinned twi'lek left the room, and silently closed the door.

"Marquis de Lafrioye, I would like to thank you for allowing me to take on your daughter as my nijī prēmikā. I understand that in Sundarian culture, noblewomen have certain duties to their family, and I am glad that you have seen fit to suspend these for the time being."

"That is true your majesty, and thank you."

The marquis responded on a respectful tone, definitely more at ease now that the Empress had shown a little understanding for his position or .. as he would call it, predicament.

"Both my wife and daughter believe that it is in Alexandra's best interest and while I have been, and admittedly still are, a bit more reluctant, my daughter's happiness is dear to me. She has convinced me that there will be ample opportunities at the Imperial Court and within your majesty's household, to broaden her knowledge and gain prestige.

While other Sundarian noble families may consider my decision to be wrong at first, eventually they will come to see the value of good contacts with other influential parties and families within the Union."

"I am sure that she will enjoy exploring the cultural differences between our people.", the empress looked at Alexandra for a moment.

"It seems that we have already encountered one such difference. I could not help but notice the blush on your lovely wife just before nodded your approval. I gather from that that the order of introductions was not exactly as it should be according to Sundarian customs?", the empress asked, apparently oblivious to the most likely actual reason.

"Indeed, it wasn't."

The marquis replied looking as if he didn't want to say too much about it,

"However, as it is the Veolian custom and we are here in the Veolian embassy, visiting your imperial majesty, it seems only right to do so."

"I am sure that not every nobleman in the Sundarian Federation would show such understanding. I am sure that Lady Koniova's influence and contacts she will acquire at my husband's court will exceed your expectations."

"Now then, let us get to the matter at hand. I am sure that you have some questions with regard to your daughters position and time at the veolian court."

"Thank you," the Marquis said at the complement the Empress had just given him, "and yes, my wife and I do indeed have some questions concerning our daughter's position and tasks while at your court.

If she were to stay in our own community she would take up a position of a lady-in-waiting, as is befitting her station and age, whilest staying at the court of another noble. While I understand that there are difference between our societies and our customs that might prohibit such a position within the Veolian Imperial Court, I would like to know a little bit more about the position your Imperial Majesty had intended for our daughter and how it would relate to the other positions within your majesty's household."

"Lady Koniova would take the position of nijī prēmikā. I can not offer you an exact translation, it is best explained as a cross between lady-in-waiting and personal aide. The position comes with several duties and rights commonly associated with ladies-in-waiting."

"There are some key differences. Lady Koniova would fall under my direct protection, while my ladies-in-waiting do not. As such, she is guaranteed to be unbothered by several at court that would wish her harm. She will also be allowed to speak with me, regardless of order of precedence."

"As my nijī prēmikā it will be her duty to assist me in personal matters and matters of administration. I will also require her to travel with me to official functions. There are some other duties traditionally associated with the position, but due to cultural differences I have decided to suspend those for now. I will discuss them with lady Koniova when she indicates a desire to do so."

The Marquis seemed genuinely pleased with the explanation the Empress gave in response to his question with regards to the distinctions between the positions within the Veolian Imperial court, as far as he was concerned the position the Empress had in mind for his daughter was well suited and he would comfortably leave her in the care of the Empress.. He was, in fact, ready to leave.

His wife however, wanted to know a little bit more:

"What does your Imperial Majesty consider to be the biggest difference between our two cultures?"

The empress turned towards the marchioness, so she could look at her.

"I think the biggest difference would be the way we view interpersonal relations and the ways we expresses them. I could give you an example, but I think that would mostly serve to create an awkward silence. If you are really interested in the subject, I would not be opposed to speaking about it more. But we should not bore your husband with it."

Alexandra's mother smiled and nodded as she heard the Empress answer her question, not feeling the need to say anything further which resulted in an awkward silence, just as the Empress had already predicted.

"Your Imperial Majesty is quite right,"

the marquis said after a short while,

"however I've also learned to respect my wife's opinion and to know when I should take my leave, which is precisely what I shall do now. If your Imperial Majesty permits me of course, I would like to use this opportunity to discuss some matters of a more military nature with some of members the Veolian diplomatic corps. That should give my wife the time to discuss anything further she might want with your Imperial Majesty."

The empress seems a bit surprised at this turn of events, but recovers smoothly.

"Of course, marquis, I am sure that can be arranged. I shall send Shanora with you to ensure that your impromptu visit does not end with the making of appointments in the far future."

The purple-skinned twi'lek, who had been quietly sitting on the floor at the empress side, elegantly rose and waited for the marquis to join her.

After the marquis had left, the empress turned her attention towards the marchioness. "Is there anything in particular you wanted to ask?", the empress' tone implied that she was still a little surprised.
