[ Sector 12 -3 ] Remunzian Liberation <Battle>
((OOC: 5 posts collapsed))
((OOC: To be honest the fact that you are now declaring 4 levels of damage out of nowhere kind of hurts me. I have been posting my ass off in this battle actually trying to fight the battle and you just end it when it is basically lost with oh btw the remainder of an already battered fleet magically destroys your fleet. One level of damage would be reasonable, two would be already exceptional, and four is just rediculous.
If you don't like the combat system just say it, but don't just declare it is over like this...
I agree that fighting against a planet is sad for roleplay. The only options you have is nuking the defence zone from orbit or just leaving...))

((OOC:
I explicitly warned about this in my post. One level of damage for a fleet entirely destroyed is a ludicrous proposition, two levels is hardly any better. Four is the absolute minimum for the ability to even be viable as an option. More balanced would have been to say UDF CORE 10 is entirely destroyed, trading a fleet for a fleet.
I've been very kind in these battles, giving +1/+1/+1 to all Union forces (I did not have to do that), not introducing extra Slave Rebellion fleets by surprise (I did set up a line to do that), and making the enemy act suboptimal at times. So let's not pretend as if this was so entirely unreasonable.))

((OOC: I also think 4 levels of damage is a lot. The Slave Rebellion fleet already has 3 levels of damage and therefore is less efficient and cable. I would like to reduce the damage to 3 levels of damage. This way our fleet is still able to function and move. Otherwise they will not be shot down by the planetary defense system and completely destroyed.
Fleet battle take a lot time a lot of maneuvering and a bit of shooting. Instead of continue to post at this slow speed we could also do a quick battle during a chat sessions or during the write-a-thon.))

((OOC: I had not taken into account that a disabled fleet cannot leave (due to planetary defences). I feel that this is a reasonable proposal and it should at least in part take some of Chriz' concerns into account as well. I have edited the post and reduced the damage to three levels.))
((OOC: To be honest as far as I know a disabled fleet can still use the retreat maneuvre and is still able to move.
Disengage/Retreat This manoeuvre is explicitly allowed while a fleet is in its incapacitated damage levels.
Taking damage: Losing the first effectiveness level has no significant impact on a fleet's operations. After the second effectiveness level is lost, the fleet suffers a -1 penalty to all rings. Next to these three levels, it has three incapacitated levels. While incapacitated, the fleet can only move. If all incapacitated levels are damaged, any further damage will destroy the fleet.
Still I agree that the 3 levels is a lot more reasonable since the Slave Rebellion Fleet was basically already incapacitated as well. If they had only 1 level of damage and were still functioning the maneuvre would have had a much more devastating effect and it that case I would agree that 4 levels of damage was reasonable.
@Stuiter: There is no battle to continue in a chat session. We can retreat our damaged fleets now and move in the armies to invade Remunzia in the upcoming turns..))

The Veh Halitra fleets was heavenly damaged. Her flagships was just hanging together. Scrapping everything and everyone together they leave the planet. Their mission was over, now it is up to the others.
"We will be retreating. Good luck with the surface liberation."
The Hiocan fleets disengages the battle and returns to space to regroup and asses the damage.
((OOC: Thanks for the clarification Chriz.
What is the effect of efficiency loss on the movement speed of a fleet))

Admiral Giambastiani responded directly after the message of Admiral Elaris.
"The Union thanks you for your contribution. Your sacrifice will be remembered."
