"While I look forward to meeting these ladies, I do not think it is my position to review such things as they are clearly a domestic Sundarian matter.", the veolian empress said dismissively.
"However, Tayu Shanora is very fond of reviewing the profiles of highborn ladies.", the empress looked at the twi'lek woman and smiled before continuing. "I suspect that she will be overjoyed to advice you on such matters with regard to the impact the candidates would have on Mirda. Even more so if she gets to meet the candidates in person."
"Maybe she could meet these candidates while she has other business on Glasslyn after we return from our talks with the Slave Rebellion? I am sure Lady Koniova's orientation on Veolian culture will be greatly helped by lengthy talks with my belongings...", the empress finished the sentence in a conspirational tone.

"I think that Miss Koniova would be most pleased and honored to speak with Tayu Shanora and learn some of the finer delicacies of the Veolian Culture. Where as I would be happy to discuss suitable candidates for the position as special envoy with her."
The Lady de Montrève said smiling at the Empress' her suggestion after which the soft sound of a bell could be heard.
"Ah..the refreshments are ready," Peinaili said, "If your Imperial majesty would be so kind as to follow me into the patio."
Subsequently she stood up and walked towards the large doors in the corner of the Library, which lead them into the gardens. Between several trees and colorful flowerbeds a comfortable set of sofas and pillows, in the classical roman style, had been placed and several refreshment and delicacies had been served on several small tables. Miss Koniova was also present and she waited anxiously for her opportunity to once again speak with her Lady's esteemed guests.

Upon the lady's motion, the empress stood and started towards the patio. A few steps before she reached the door, one of her handmaidens stepped outside, and quickly stood aside. The twi'lek woman walked at the empress' side, and the group was followed by the second handmaiden.
The empress sat down on a comfortable sofa, while the twi'lek woman sat down at the empress' feet. The two handmaidens once again took up positions that were both out of sight, and near the empress.

Once the Empress sat down, both the Lady de Montrève and Miss Koniova also sat down. It was obvious Alexandra was a bit nervous as it had been made obvious that she had been responsible for the refreshment
"Your Imperial Majesty, Milady," She said to both the Empress and Peinaili, "the refreshments today brings a wide variety of flavors the Union has to offer, as I had tried to find suitable combination of both Veolian and Sundarian traditional snacks together with several other delicacies from throughout the Union. I hope that it will be to your liking."

The empress, picking up on the nervousness of the young sundarian, smiled reassuringly.
"Don't worry. Even the worst tea tastes great in good company, and I'm certain that this tea will taste spectacular."
While the empress talked, the twi'lek woman reseated herself near the table, and ceremoniously poured tea in three cups. After doing so, she handed a cup to the Empress, and then proceeded to hand cups to the sundarian senator and her aide.
Taking a sip from the tea, the empress engaged in a bit of small talk, talking about the favourite foods and teas of the high ladies. During this, she paid careful attention to the preferences of lady Koniova. During the talking, the twi'lek took great cares to be at the side of the empress, accepting the cup of tea whenever the empress felt like putting it away for a minute.

With the Empress' remarks, Alexandra clearly relaxed and felt more at ease as she tried herself on various delicacies.
"Thank you," Alexandra said not knowing what else to say, "Your imperial majesty is most kind."
Peinaili smiled at the scene that played out for her, she was pleased with the outcome of this meeting so far. Though there were no tangible results or treaties had been made to directly benefit the Sundarian Economy, she valued the Empress' advise and it had been most helpful to gain a better understanding in the finer workings of the Veolian culture, and its implications in the way the Veolians conducted their politics. This could in time be used to further the bond of cooperation between the Veolian Commonwealth and the Sundarian Federation. Peinaili decided to postpone her personal agenda a bit, there would be time for it later, and instead she would enjoy the tea and make some small talk.

The empress quietly sipped her tea, and seemed to be paying attention to Alexandra, instead of to her host.
Looking up, she replied: "Well, I expected more nature. Unity seems such an artificial place."
"I understand this has to do with the view from the senate hall.", she said after another sip. "Sadly, I have little time to visit the senate hall, and my handmaidens forbid me from going there for reasons they did not go into. Luckily, the view is the same everywhere, so I have but to look up to enjoy it."
"Maybe a new genus of plants could be engineered that would thrive in the dark? It would certainly be a grandiose accomplishment to grant life to this dead planet, while at the same time keeping the magnificent view of the galaxy intact. Some forms of engineered insects and other smaller creatures, together with luminescent flora, might be used as sources of light to provide for a very romantic planet. Wouldn't you think?"
The last question did not seem directed at anyone in particular.

The Lady the Montrève picked up the hint and looked at Alexandra expectantly, it was clear this was an opportunity for her to show some more of her character, in which the Empress was clearly interested.
"Well," Alexandra said after some deliberation, "I think it offer could a much better ambiance to conduct business if this planet wasn't so barren and almost forsaken of natural life. Of course one might say that looking up in the sky and galaxy should be enough as it this mainly where the Union gathers its strength and wealth, separate star systems and races, who live out there, that have chosen to cooperate; however we could very well show the very extend of this cooperation and technological advancement, by means of re-introducing an ecosystem here.
So yes, Your Imperial Majesty, that may well cause this place to become a bit more romantic..."

"It appears that you are very focussed on business.", she replied at last. "In all honesty, I do not find business to be all that romantic."
Taking another sip of tea, she directed her attention to the sundarian senator.
"Lady de Montrève, would the Sundarian Federation be interested in supporting a plan to terraform Unity? I remember Lady Nehket informing me about an earlier inquiry, but some time has gone by since then."

"I agree with Alexandra, Your Imperial Majesty," Peinaili answered in reply of the Empress' inquiry, "A terraformed Unity could certainly create a better ambiance to live and work, I believe it could also be beneficial for our diplomatic efforts. More importantly however it would signify the importance of mutual cooperation and technological advancement, which could mark progress and growing prosperity of the Union as an intergalatic power.
As said earlier the Sundarian Government is willing to offer support, both financial and through our diplomatic channels, in order to further this project. "

The empress smiled at lady Koniova as she cut into the conversation. "We shall have a lot of fun introducing you to our ladies in waiting, lady Koniova.", the empress replied to the young noblewoman.
She then turned her attention towards the sundarian senator.
"Would you be willing to support a chancellor wishing to create such a symbol of unity?", she asked.

"Your Imperial Majesty is most kind" Alexandra said softly, as she sought a comfortable position to sit in. She continued to try and enjoy several delicacies while listing to the Empress and the Lady de Montrève discussing matters of state. It seemed the Empress had started to like her and she was excited, this would be a great opportunity for further her education, if only her father could be persuaded to grant her permission to go.

"I concur, lady de de Montrève. We think that a chancellor should not focus on a single issue, and instead should balance all aspects of the Union. Something the previous candidates seem to have ignored at times.
We also think that the Union could do with some stability. Chancellor Bolv'ar, as well as he means it, seems to have bitten of more than he can chew. The recent problems with the Teprogranaian Consensus becoming an Inner World are evidence of this, but older examples could be named.
We hope to offer stability and punctuality. We see the value of cooperation, while also wishing to keep the sovereignty of member worlds intact. If we can count on your support, we can both see the Union prosper."

We can discuss the situation around mister Pendra, and I can speak some more with lady Koniova after she talked over my proposal with her family."

She then looked at Alexandra who followed them a few paces behind, and added softly.
"I shall also make sure that Miss Koniova receives some further education in the Veolian culture and customs, while we work on convincing her father. I'm sure he would be wise enough to see that this is indeed a great opportunity for his daughter."

Turning to face the young lady softly following them, the empress spoke to her: "Lady Koniova, I look forward to our next meeting."
With a soft kiss on lady Koniova's cheek, the empress left the Sundarian embassy.
After listening to the softer sentence, and recognizing the intonation of someone who is going to manipulate, she added: "I would see lady Koniova accept my offer of her own volition, if she is to be the token in a political game I would be most unhappy."
