Mandalorians, POWs and you

During the battle for Hio I said my fleet performed search and rescue operations for friend and foe. According to the story teller the mandalorians tried to destroy the ships doing that by doing suicide runs and the lot. I would like to think my other fleet in the Novalia system performed similar activities after the battle there was over.

I would like to have some Prisoners Of War as a result from those search and rescue operations, because I think this could lead to some interesting roleplay. Specifically on their treatment and such things. I know how my faction would treat them but others might treat them very differently.

I would like to hear some thoughts on this.

I think this is a very good idea. I am uncertain how many POWs would actually be taken, as it doesn't seem that the Mandalorians would do a POW exchange... Their culture seems much more shoot-to-kill.

My fleet participated in the Battle for Nest, and the consequent chase, so some knowledge about how those battles went down with regard to prisoners could lead to good RP.

I'm certain that we have some prisoners. I don't really see how this immediately leads to roleplay, but it add at least some nice fluff.

The Mandalorians are a proud warrior culture and prefer dying in battle over being captured. They can and will blow up their ships, ram into the enemy and make suicide runs.

That said, not every Mandalorian is as brave and not every Mandalorian succeeds in making a suicide run. Some may even be taken completely by surprise while thinking they are still winning. Thus, it seems reasonable to me that POW's have been made.

Likely, the reverse also holds true, and the Mandalorians took some Union troops captive, not so much out of chivalry, as for the belief that they can extract information or make a profit ransoming them for example.

As far as I am concerned any faction that participated in the battle either with their homeworlds or with a fleet can claim POWs of the other side.

A good estimate of the number would be around a thousand or so, probably more for those with multiple fleets in the battle and less for those who mostly sat on the sidelines. I'll let everyone judge for themselves how many they think are reasonable, but this number should give a fair scale to things, I think?

I think that sounds reasonable,

In the capture of Mandalorian ships mission, I said that 1292 Mandalorians were captured, but this number is because 1 ship surrendered, and for the other ships the Union troops actively tried to capture Mandalorians instead of simply killing them. (Which resulted in roughly 200 captured on a crew of 1100).

When it is all about killing Mandalorians, the amount of POW would be much lower.

I will be claiming:
  • 243 POWs from the Battle for Nest by the Veolian Imperial Fleet
  • 338 POWs from the Capture of Mandalorian Ships by vessels of the First Shebi Fleet (this includes a number of no-questions-asked prisoners)
  • 801 POWs from the destruction of Briikase Bes'laar (MF 943) by the First Shebi Fleet

This information is OOC. Exact numbers will be difficult to determine IC, as records might be shoddy, and the recollection of soldiers is not always perfectly accurate.

I will also assume that the Mandalorians took about 345 veolian POWs. This number is based on taking half of the POWs taken by the Veolians, and halving it again because the Briikase Bes'laar carrying those POWs was destroyed by Veolian forces (claiming some of them back already).

EDIT: added Veolian POWs.
