At this time, the Union doesn't have any flags or insignia, or other markers to identify it. I thought up some designs and colour idea's, but considering it, a large part of the Union is made up by the player base. That is why I would like to ask: what do -you- think the Union logo should look like?

Since nobody has an opinion on this I propose the following:

• Either Argent a fess gules and a roundel 0.2 120ccw sable, the black circle represents the planet Unity, rising above the blood and war from the times of chaos,
• or Sable a pale 60cw or and a pale or and a pale 60ccw or and a ring gules, the red knot in the middle binds together the three golden rods of Core Worlds, Inner Worlds and Fringe Worlds. The red knot represents the times of chaos, which bound together the founding member factions of the Union.

Both are clearly visible in both small and large sizes. And the first one appears to be unique among all the member factions of the Union, while the second still has a recognizable six-sided design.

Personally I favour the first design.

The first thing I noticed of the first logo is that it looks a bit like Mimas, one of Saturns moons. Coolies ^_^

If so, please report your progress; I'd like to get this rolling again, to add some recognizability to the site.

If no-body is working on this, I propose we just use the first proposal, as no other counter-proposal have been made. I also suggest we use the same logo for the following: FWURG Logo, just because there is no need for a seperate logo, and favicon.

I came up with this one:



Which shows Unity in front of the galaxy as viewed from the disk. It's a bit of a different style, which I was curious to hear opinions of. Obviously this "icon" would do less well for the Union, though I think it might do better for FWURG. The main problem I see with the Argent a fess gules and a roundel 0.2 120ccw sable is that it is a bit too stylised (is that the correct word?) for a site icon, but despite my efforts I have not yet been able to make a satisfactory variation. Opinions?

Though I really like the visual of the image, it's not really a logo in my opinion (Wikipedia and wordnet seem to agree with me to some extent). I'm also a bit afraid that the suggested logo looks to much like a star-system image or a planet image, of which we have an abundance on the wiki.

I think a logo should be a simple and stylized device that is easily drawn on whatever kind of medium. Your ideas about this may vary though, the English language is not as clear with things like 'logo', 'device' or 'emblem' as one would like.

As to the site icons: they are really small (48x48 and smaller, traditionally they are 16x16, but some browsers really like the 32x32 versions due to display on large taskbar-like applications). So it's quite difficult to cram the photo-realistic logo in there without enormous loss of resolution, probably resulting in a smear of brown.

I'm still of the opinion that we should use a single base image for all three (FWURG logo, Union logo, and site icon) -- it's just that much clearer. And the abstract argent a fess gules and a roundel 0.2 120ccw sable is very clear in smaller versions, though the large version might have to be pimped up with some shading and details maybe?

I'm interested in the opinions of the other players on this subject.

I find the additional brightness of the white (over gray) makes it stand out better in the gray bar firefox (and most browsers) comes with.
