To <Private> or not to <Private> on holomails

Hey all,

I would like to clarify something on the IC forums. We have a <private> tag to indicate that a thread is private, usually the first post will have a short OOC note to list those it is private to. We have this tag to make it clear what is private and what is public. For example a cabinet meeting can be tagged '<private>' with a note that it is private to the members of cabinet. Senate meetings are usually public.

It appears that this tag is sometimes also unneccesarily used on holomails. Most holomails do not have this tag because it is assumed that private holomail communication remains private. So if a thread is titled '[ Mail ] To Senator Xyzzy: Want to buy 100 widgets', this thread is private to Senator Xyzzy and the person who sent it.

It is assumed that all holomails are private and secure communication. The fact that this is not mentioned is in no way a declaration that the mail is either public or not secure. So, a holomail does not need a <private> tag to remain private. And a holomail without the <private> tag is still private.

Just wanted to put this out there, so we're all on the same page (and to prevent unclarity by preventing the addition of <private> to implicit private communications).
