State of turn reports

At the moment we're about 1 turn behind (processing turn reports from (:turn) 299 on (:turn) 300).

I personally find this somewhat annoying, in an untidy sort of way. However, I am also of the opinion that we can process turns faster that 1 turn per week, with last week being just an exception.

Given this, if we just open the next turn the moment all the turn reports are approved, then we will eventually catch back up to the correct turn. In effect, doing nothing special. If people find this to be a bad solution, then we could choose to skip say (:turn) 301.

I found the situation to be exceptional, and so I figured I would ask for other peoples opinion on this.

Just make some time. I could do some turn checking for a few turns as well to catch up.

I would also like to catch up.
Is it just the seven of us now?
We should be able to handle it.

((Moderator voice: The following three posts have been moved from the Turn 300 (2016-02-27 - 2017-03-05) thread.))

Guys to get the turn reports back on track everybody should actually post in the week of the turn...

I intend to start turn checking on Thursday, please post as soon as possible Gerben. (If you can't make it I have no problem with you doing your population increase next turn for once)

So to be clear: For turn reports to be accepted for turn 300 Wednesday 8 march will be your last chance.
For the next turn we will go for Tuesday 14 march as your last chance.

They're not really "off track" in my opinion. A bit on the late side, certainly, but not really off track.

I agree that the last two turns have been somewhat sloppy due to OOC reasons. But I'd very much like it if, next time, you would discuss taking over turn auditing in another thread. Or at all really, I haven't even seen a single PM about it... Simply declaring you are going to do it without any discussion is kinda rude — especially since I just posted that I'm back.

I'm not against someone else taking over, but right now the situation is a tad confusing. Who should people PM if they want to get in touch with the turn auditors? Fedor, me, or you? If you start doing this, I have no problem bowing out (since I am clearly the slow party in this), but that'll mean that you'll have to keep on doing the auditing. You can't just pop in when you are annoyed by slowness, and stop auditing when everything is running fine again... I'm happy to step aside and let someone else take over auditing: so do you want to take over for me?

I am sorry Brend, I did not intend to start a discussion in here. I only responded to State of turn reports and wanted to follow up on that.

To clarify, I don't want to replace you as a turn auditor. However I am willing to support to keep things going as I did last week, I don't mind stepping up again if it is necessary.

The problem is not with the turn auditing, it is with the posting of the turn reports itself, I believe we need to become a bit more strict with the deadlines since we have the one week ritm for a reason. This is not a problem of the last month, we are having this problem the past year and because we are allowing it it is only getting worse a little bit every time.

@Brend Can you move this discussions to the topic I mentioned where they belong.

Right now, both the Turn Report submission and the Turn Auditting are done a bit sloppy (as rightly pointed out by Chriz). I partially attribute this to everyone getting busy OOCly, as well as the overall slowness that has come over FWURG due to things like the Teprogrenaians, with their player eventually declaring to suspend their economy for now.

So, how the actual turn submission and reporting is working right now, as based on an example (assuming the date is 2017-02-25):

(:turn) 299 (2017-02-20 - 2017-02-26): This turn ends on Sunday 2017-02-26 23:59:59. People ought submit turn reports before this moment.
(:turn) 300 (2017-02-27 - 2017-03-05): Turn reports for (:turn) 299 are auditted, and when approved their effects are pushed through. Turn reports ought to be auditted early in the week, so everyone can update their bookkeeping quickly and everyone can view the new economic state early in the week.

The problem with this scheme of Turn Auditting is that, even if we (the auditors) do our work Monday morning, if we find errors the Turn closing will be delayed until the error is fixed. This is not something we as Turn Auditors can help, because we are then dependent upon other players to actually fix their turn report. In effect Turn Checking involves two rounds: The first to flag all errors, and a second to audit all fixes.

tl;dl: start reading here:

Looking at my calendar for the foreseeable future, I see that the following rhytm would work very well (for me, at least):

(:turn) 299, Sunday: Everyone: Turn Reports are to be submitted before 18:00. (round one)
(:turn) 299, Sunday, Turn Auditors: Turn Reports are to be auditted before 23:59:59. (round one)
(:turn) 300, Tuesday, Everyone: Turn reports are to be fixed before 18:00. (round two)
(:turn) 300, Tuesday, Turn Auditors: Turn Reports are to be auditted before 23:59:59. (round two)
(:turn) 300, Thursday, Everyone: Bookkeeping pages should be updated by the end of the Thursday, preferably earlier.

The idea is to assume that we need two rounds, and to slice up the days in the week based on allowing people a few days to fix them. Then, on Thursday at the latests everyone has an up-to-date bookkeeping page. The updating of the bookkeeping can be done earlier if the reports are all fine.

Of course, fluctuations will appear, but the base should be for turn reports to be in before the end of Sunday. That way the error handling does not overflow into the time alloted for the next turn.

What do other people think of this proposed timeline for turn reports?

We also need to decide how long we will continue to wait with auditing the current turn 300.

I am guessing that Gerben is not going to respond and that we should start auditing it at some point. (I would prefer tommorrow at its latest)

Well, that's the thing — simply PMing someone helps a lot: I just PMed his this morning, and he replied that he will find time to post a report somewhere today.

I agree that auditting tomorrow would be best. I'll pick it up in the late morning.
