Login change

We've fixed the login system to work uniformly across the entire site (and not just the forum and wiki, which had different login screens). In the top right corner, you can now find your account. If you click the image or your account names, you get a list of all your accounts. The accounts are sorted by IC and OOC. If you have an OOC account that should be IC or vice versa, I made a booboo, so please let me know and I'll fix it asap.

Any new accounts are automatically set to OOC (so as not to confuse new players) so if you make a new character, I'll put it in IC for you asap - we're working on an automatic system that will make new character accounts as IC and add those to your main account if you use the character builder, but that isn't done yet, so for now I'll fix it by hand.

If you aren't logged in, the top right corner lists a register and login entry which can be clicked to register a new account or to log in. Simple as that!

We removed the usual (and now superfluous) login buttons, but you can still log in on the main forum screen as well - this will be removed at a later time.

The avatars of my characters are all the time over the screen.
It is hard to get rid of them as they take almost all the space in the right side of the screen and are not a clearly part of a drop down menu.
Also all the time I go to another screen on the site they re-appear and I must click the avatars away again

This could be a caching issue (which can be resolved by pressing CTRL+F5) - if this does not solve your problem, please let us know what browser you are using and we will get on it right away! Apologies for the trouble :(

The problem seems to be gone for now, so probably it was a caching problem.

thanks

In Chromium 18.0.1025.151 (Developer Build 130497 Linux) Ubuntu 10.04, the account selection dropdown doesn't go away after it becomes visible.

This can probably be fixed by using jQuery, so unless others actively use Chromium it shouldn't be an issue.

I have this wonderful character created, now it needs to be IC instead of OOC

another point: If I link my accounts, it is only linked to the one account I selected, my main account. And not to the other accounts also linked to my main account.
So I have to link all my accounts to all my accounts if I want to switch easily.

Is this deliberately or are you still working on it?

I set your account to IC ^_^

In the future the character builder should make it possible to make your character linked and IC automatically.

However, you don't have to link every account to every account. All characters linked to your main account can also be selected from other accounts linked to the same main account :)

That is not the case with my latest account.

Example:

In the past, I created a Jedi account, I linked it to my main account.
then I created a holonet account. I linked it to my main account.
Now I cannot change from my holonet to my Jedi.
first I must go to my main account and then I can go to an other account. I have pressed ctrl+F5, so that is not the problem this time.

However this is only the case with my holonet and not with my representative. I cannot rember that I linked my representative with my Jedi, but I can switch between those two accounts freely.

Very peculiar. I'm looking into this right now to try and find a cause. In the meanwhile, could you look in your User Control Panel for me, in the Manage Linked Accounts section for both your main account, the holonet account and the other IC accounts and tell me what entries are listed under the switch options?

That will help me determine if this is a bug in our pop-up or if it is a bug in the account link core itself.

Also, is the account missing entirely from the list or is it merely lacking an image or something like that?

EDIT: I have about 20 accounts myself for various NPC's and I can switch between all of them at will even though they are only linked to my main account. However, I remember adding the NPC accounts from my main account (and not the other way around). Could it be that you added your main account as a linked account to your holonet account (meaning the holonet account is the main account for your main account)?

If that is the case you can fix it by unlinking the accounts and linking from your main account.

EDIT 2: turns out this was it and the problem is now fixed. Yay!

Done and done! Did you know that if you use the Character Builder to create your account, it will be automatically set to IC and you get it linked to your main account for free?

Is that live already? Nice!

But that might require some change in styling and layout though -- the actual buttons are somewhat hidden at the top of the builder...

Maybe they should be moved to the bottom, inside a distinct 'make it so'-box?

It's been live for a week or so now. It also sets your avatar though it doesn't do the representative image just yet - I'm waiting with changing that and the layout until the automatic wiki loading is done as well so it'll be a one-click-finishes-the-character kind of thing. At that point we'll also add automatic checking if the character name is available.

oh yes, it works quite well, I assume that any new created account got the same password as the main account? There is some room for improvements I guess.

I also miss a option to give the avatar automatically the faction logo. But it is getting easier and easier to create new characters, good work :D

We set the same password as the master account to the newly created one - alternative would be to tell the player their new password which requires it be displayed on the website with all security risks that entails. And if your master account password is compromised, it doesn't matter if your user account has a different pass or not since it will be compromised too by being linked.

The automatic faction logo depends on the wikipage being created so the data of which faction the character is, is available. Until the wikipage is automatically generated (rather then manually) we cannot guarantee we can set it to a valid value, so until the automatic wikipage generation is done, the automatic faction logo will stay unavailable. Once the automatic wikipage generation is done, it will be a piece of cake to add the automatic faction logo ^_^
