Because of the upcoming holiday maintenance, I will be running several tests on the server.

This might cause a server slowdowns of periods of at most a few minutes.

Apologies in advance.

First test: Using xcache

Using an opcode cache should improve request performance for all PHP pages. This includes the data backend used by most tools.

08:07: Activated xcache. Will leave this on for an hour.

Here are some images while you wait:

Based on my not-so-scientific observations and ad-hoc measurements, the xcache seems to improve response time. I also observe a much more consistent response time in the graph. I will leave the xcache on for the rest of the day and inspect the graph again later.

During my tests, I also spotted a performance failure for all images generated through the _imagelink wiki data type: they are never cached and require refetching. This must be fixed in the plugins soon!

The cache does not seem to improve the site's performance that much.

For the sake of simplicity (and to remove possible points of failure) I will remove the cache again.
