The wiki makes it possible to edit a specific section of a page, for example the edit buttons at various sections.
I'm looking for a way to link to such an edit section - which is already possible - however I want to make it slightly more specific and link to a data entry. For example, I want a link to a wiki edit page where I can edit Zone 5 for Mirda, for example (and only that zone).
Is this already possible or would it require an extension of the wiki? Can it be done? How much effort would it be?
The specific feature I'm hoping for is to allow a player to click on a zone in the planet display which would immediately allow them to edit that specific zone. I can make the click work, I just need a place to link to.

Alternative idea:
We could move all zone data to a bookkeeping page for the planet and give the actual zones individual headers there. This should not affect the data model, and will allow zones to be individually editable without wiki modifications.
It would require moving all zones on all planets to separate pages.
Thoughts?

No, it will not: that's not how the wiki handles section editting. The wiki doesn't handle section editting by header, it handles it by byte offset. So what you propose is just not going to work, you will need to get the byte offsets from the wiki in all cases, regardless of where you place the zone data.
I'm afraid that you'll just have to wait until I start work on the data plugins to allow 'data block editting' (which is a feature that Steven and me want for some time now -- it's just a heapload of work to implement correctly). Once we have that, you can do your thing as well, as the inforation is available at that moment.
For now, this is just not going to happen, as I am not willing to spend time to hack this into the wiki when I'm going to implement it in the correct way in half a year. Sorry.

That's a shame, but no worries. I still think making a separate zones page for planets may be a good idea, though for now I'll make due without clicks on the zone display.
We could do with a bookkeeping page for a system -- but I don't really see the benefit of that. Keeping the zones with the planet is easy and clean. We just need better support from the wiki for a few of the more advanced things we want. (And where the data block is is rather immaterial for the functionality you describe)
Functionality like what we want is never free ^_^
