Can a player's jedi participate in multiple missions 'at the same time'?

'At the same time' here means: multiple mission-threads on the Jedi forum.

Because I'd like to have my jedi participate in both open missions and in the next 'Protect the empress/delegation' mission; however, missions have a very long runtime, so this might be difficult to explain IC.

Yes, but you can only participate in a single mission with one character. Examples:

Player Alice has two characters Bella and Chell. There are two missions, P and Q.

She could have Bella participate in P and Chell in Q, or Bella in P and Q or Chell in P and Q. She could also participate in only one or in neither. But she could not have Bella and Chell in P or Bella and Chell in Q.

If you participate in two missions, you cannot use skills, abilities, equipment or knowledge earned in one mission in the other unless the second mission is started after the first is finished. For example, if Bella gets a new ship in adventure P and then starts adventure Q, she cannot use the new ship unless adventure P has concluded (even if adventure Q starts after she got the new ship in P).
