How is population growth tracked? At the moment we all calculate population in billions (to one decimal; e.g. 7.8 billion). If we need to track them to the fourth decimal this will entail a lot of housekeeping, especially because the population segmentation over multiple planets.
Do we get an amount of population to spend each turn, or is some poor soul (i.e. the GM) going to update all our population segments for us, or do we just ignore the population growth until we can plop down an extra 0.1 billion (which will take some time, given the 0.0002 billion growth per week per full billion).
If we use the 'spend population each turn' system I propose we define a 'holding pen' population segment somewhere, so that is the only one that needs to be updated. That way both players and the GM can easily see how much unspent population someone has cached.

I was planning on simply calculating for each planet when the population was boosted by .1, but your suggestion is probably easier. I do not believe it will be a significant problem.

I wast mostly curious how it would be done. Maybe we can just add the population segments to the system page and call the 'floating population' or something. That way we can also handle immigrants and such in a graceful way, they would just be floating until allocated.
Of course we should not keep people floating to long...
