"This week is precisely four weeks before the start of the new electoral period, which means the time has come for candidates to register.

As the current Chancellor, it is my full intention to continue on the current course. In the past electoral period, we have gained eight new member worlds, more then half again as many members. We have made great contributions to support the growth of these member worlds and they have integrated brilliantly as a result of our support to joint projects.

The senators of Highmons and Heimgol have supported me in the past period and they will once again stand by my side for the upcoming elections.

Our concrete plans are to continue the Unions current course of expansion:

* We will provide additional financial support for our newest member worlds in the form of tax-cuts
* We will promote technological development surrounding Terraformation by means of subsidies
* We will support colonisation efforts undertaken by member worlds with sponsoring and protection

Through these actions, we promote new members to join us, we enlarge and enhance the position of our existing members and we bring back the advantages of a large scale Union to all. Our goal for the coming electoral period: get big fast!

"I believe in the power of diplomacy to resolve any crisis we may find ourselves in, but even if diplomacy should fail, our current fleets are more than a match for anything the galaxy has to offer.

I envision a continuation of our current policy - the maintaining of a sizeable Union fleet that will jump to the defence of any nation that is attacked by a foreign power. I do not believe that fleet needs to be extended, given that thee are no indications of a coming war, and I do not believe member states need to waste their money on establishing a defence force they will never have need of."

The Chancellor smiled, or whatever passed for a smile for the Vratix - different facial structures led to different expressions.

"Thank you for these intelligent and insightful questions Senators,

I plan on continuing our progress on the Bozzy Spine, though perhaps in a less ambitious fashion. All those tax breaks will have to be paid for somehow after all. I plan to improve infrastructure however, especially by helping new members establish their fleets. My actions to provide subsidies to new and less developed members for fleets are an example of what I intend to continue with.

Regarding tax cuts, I am thinking of making the taxes spent on development of certain zone types tax-deductible. I will put the matter of what zones would be most beneficial to the Union as a call for proposals so the Inner Worlds can offer suggestions.

Regarding the colonization, I plan to make available technologies to explore and help find systems which are viable for colonization. As for if new member worlds will be able to afford that, I cannot make any guarantees - it depends on their own economic situation and their economic interests. However, with the technology available, they will at least be able to put in the efforts if they choose to go along that route.

"Wow, trying to get votes by calling every question you get intelligent. It's a good thing worlds vote based on what is actually the bottom line, not on who flatters them the most.

Your 'less ambitious' plans for the Bozzy Spine says it all - you intend to neglect the infrastructure, except when it gets you votes.

Why don't you tell us exactly how much 'less' ambitious?"
