[ Senate ] Public hearing - Committee for investigation into Daryan involvement in Novelia System
-

Unified Republic of Darya - Faction
"Thank you comrade. At the time I looked at the papers and evidence provided to me and since the ACA continued the deals made with the STF. I could only come to the conclusion that the ACA was the legitimate successor state and therefore allowed to continue this trade."
"Is there more you would like to know?"
"Is there more you would like to know?"
Thank you Senator Konev, Mister Fyodorov," Peinaili said after the Daryan had explained the procedure which had lead to the arrangement and discussed the transiting for the STF into the ACA. "That should be sufficient for now, unless Miss Shebi or Mister Trigiel have more questions." she then continued when looking at the other members of the committee.
"If not, I believe it is best that we, member of the committee, withdraw to discuss all we have heard here and make a decision on the matter. We shall then inform both delegations and the Senate of our findings and ruling."

"I have no further questions.", Ajava simply replied.
((OOC: If hadn't decided a while ago to finish up this thread, I would've liked to ask the Daryans some more difficult questions to be at least as torough as with the ACA; alas, this thread has gone on for long enough.))

((OOC: 1 post collapsed))
((OOC: Agreed.))
"Very well then," Peinaili said as she thanked the parties present for their cooperation, "I hereby adjourn this hearing. You will be notified as soon as we have reached a decision, for now thank you for your cooperation."
Once the committee had withdraw and had some time to consider the options, Peinaili said:
"Miss Shebi, Mister Trigiel, I believe that we can resolve this matter with relative ease, but we should look at the possible implications for other, similar events, in the past or in the future.
Let me start by saying that as far as I can tell now, the Unified Republic of Darya has had no direct involvement with the change of leadership in the Novelia System. Though they could have taking precautionary measures, such as employed by the Teprogrenaian Consensus, there have been no indications for them that their shipments were used to build fleets for the purpose of overthrowing the government. In fact, as stated by the Astrian Delegation, the Admiralty Board of the former STF had signed off on the purchase themselves.
Any other events in the Novelia system or actions by the former STF government have no relevance in this investigation.
What are your thoughts on the matter?"

Before answering, Ajava looked around to see who were listening in. Seeing that they were in a private room specifically built to prevent annoying press from listening in, she felt that she could talk a little more freely.
"This committee has been tasked with determining whether or not the Unified Republic of Darya was involved in the transfer of power from the Stellarian Triad Federation to the Astrian Colonial Authority.""
"Based on what I have heard from the delegations, and what I have gleaned from the senate records with regard to this matter, I think that the Daryans were fully unaware of the situation in the Stellarian Triad Federation. As were, I think, most others outside the STF. It is unclear whether the delivered capital vessels were instrumental in the change of government, but it is clear that a large amount of the delivered equipment has been used by one or both sides of the conflict.
In my view, the involvement of the Daryans in the change of power only goes as far as being an honest, and cooperative, trader that delivers on time as promised. They should not be held responsible for how factions internal to the former STF planned on using the goods they received from another Union world."
"That concludes my view on the matter, senator."
"On a more personal level, I must admit that I still have to come to a deeper understanding of the necessity of this investigation. After listening to the senate records with regards to the events that lead to this hearing, and after hearing the delegations themselves, I gathered that this investigation was sparked by the Praetorian senator Ardios Eldrilith, who is a member of this committee... At least, in the records. I have yet to spot the senator at this hearing.", she was careful not to make the implications of her statement explicit.
"With all due respect, senator, I currently believe that the real reason this committee was formed was for political reasons much more so than for reasons of actual inquiry. And even if the capital ships delivered by the change of power from STF to ACA were instrumental, the change of power remains an internal matter to the Astrian people. As I understand it, worlds join the join in cooperation and alliance, not in fealty. As such, the internal politics of any faction, or not within the purview of the Union.
Since I am here in my capacity as a Jedi I shall refrain from further discussion of the political situation. Though I urge you to indeed consider how far the Union's reach extends, since this will indeed strongly affect future events of a similar nature."

"Thank you Miss Shebi, for you insights in the matter."
Peinaili replied,
"And I'll be sure to enclose them in the report to the Senate. As for the second part, concerning the political motivation behind this investigation and the interests of the Praetorian Empire, I believe this matter are best left as they are. Enough has been said about this matter, and I think it unwise to stir it up once more.
As for the extend of the Union's reach and influence, I agree that this issue wasn't only an internal matter of the ACA, but also touches dangerously close to the Union meddling in her member's affairs. While this is not a task of this committee I'll not leave this untouched in our report and at least advice the Union to tread with care in cases such as this."
She then looked towards Trigiel
"Mister Trigiel, do you have anything further to add?"
((OOC: I'll write up a report for the senate sometime this week, in order to wrap up this lengthy affair.))
