"Fellow senators", Minister Dewa Lanadi takes the stand,
"I want to bring your attention to the a court case that has already received much media attention, and that some of you may be following in the news. I'm speaking of the case of the Remunzian mate-seekers versus the Veolian Slave Owners, which is brought before the the veolian High Court of Jala Khaira.
The court case is adjourned for two weeks to allow both sides to prepare for arguments. The court has invited representatives of other worlds, legal offices on other worlds, and knowledgable individuals are to submit a written statements with arguments for or against either party in this case.
This tradition of sending in a written statment is called the amicus brief, a written statement by a third part, and is a long-standing veolian legal tradition. It allows individuals and groups that are not a part of the court case to offer information that bears on the case, but that has not been solicited by any of the parties.
The Veolian Commonwealth hereby invites all Union worlds to submit an amicus brief.
I am confident that, even though this is a matter that should be settled in the Senate, this court case will eventually strengthen the Union as a whole. Therefore, while I am one of the defendants, I strongly urge you to submit a written statement to the court in support of either party."
((OOC: Mercury has agreed to a 1
reward for everyone that posts a written statement to the veolian High Court of Jala Khaira!))

The High Court of Jala Khaira has extended its recess until the end of the month.
This also means that other worlds, legal scholars and experts can send in their written statements until the end of the month."
