Shebi Ajava's Knights Trial
((OOC: This mission is private to Shebi Ajava. I decided to skip some of the boring parts and I dropped you in a bit further along than I normally would but I wanted to get into things quickly ^_^))
Having been summoned, Shebi Ajava had come to the Hangar Bay of the Jedi Temple where Master Screetor had summoned her. After he had explained to her that she was to take the knights test, Master Screetor closed with a warning:
"Remember that the Trials can be dangerous. In fact, some Jedi do not return from it and others are scarred for life. I would suggest you meditate carefully about what equipment you will bring. The ship" he pointed at the ship "will leave in 24 hours. Do you have any questions?"
No doubt Shebi had lots of questions: Master Screetor hadn't said a word about what the mission was actually going to be... or where it was going to be... or who was even coming!
Then again, perhaps it was deliberate?

Shebi Ajava - PC
Despite her upbringing, Ajava feels nervous when Master Screetor's explanation and his admonition to carefully think about the equipment she will bring. She considered asking how long the ship would travel, but rejected the idea. It might allow her to deduce something on the destination, and if master Screetor wants her to know, he would have told her.
Taking the first half of the day to meditate on the upcoming test, Shebi Ajava decides to travel light. As she doesn't know the situation upon arrival, she collects two weeks worth of survival gear and, even though she dislikes relying on technical aid, an Onyx 5 suit from quartermaster Nishra. As usually, she goes to speak with the quartermaster in person. Exactly how the quartermaster likes it.
She opts to take no blasters, as she has experienced that they only make more noise than necessary, and in her hands a bow easily outmatches even a sniper rifle for accuracy. After some debate with quartermaster Nishra, she agrees that a space-proof backpack actually makes a lot of sense.
Back in her quarters, she quickly unpacks all the equipment and rations, inspects them and repacks them in a more efficient manner.
On impulse, she carefully unwraps the two prototype saber cores, and inspects them before she collects and wraps the final components for the cores from her now sizeable collection of lightsaber components. Next she packs the freshly milled exterior components, intent on taking them with her.
'Maybe I have some time to work on them while travelling', she rationalized her impulsive decision. She is well aware that it is a bad habit to get used to a single weapon. Any lightsaber will do equally well, but she feels a pull to complete these sabers, as if they will somehow complement her.
The collection and packing takes her roughly six hours, after which she has two hours left. Still feeling slighlty on edge due to the weight of the test, she resolves to write a letter to her mother. The letter is terse and quickly written. She writes another letter, this time to Arnia'Evixel, the twi'lek girl she rescued and brought home. She explains that she is to undergo a test, and that she fears the outcome. It helps take the nervousness away.
After sending both letters, she suits up, attaches her bow and lightsaber to the armour, grabs her backpack, and heads for the ship.

The ship was waiting patiently for Shebi Ajava to arrive and the veolian jedi easily made her way inside. Much to her surprise the ship was empty, but despite of this the hatch closing behind her and the ship took off, likely on autopilot to the site of her destination.
After several hours in hyperspace, the ship landed on preprogrammed coordinates on an unknown planet which measurements indicated had a safe atmosphere to breathe and normal gravity and temperature.
As she opened the hatch she saw the sun setting behind the horizon indicating it would be dark soon, but the setting sun wasn't the way darkness was announced: as she stepped out onto the surface of the world, a shiver ran down Shebi's spine as she felt the presence of the Dark Side. It was strong here, drowning out other energies. And the source of this energy seemed to be the large temple, partially in ruins, which lay before her as obvious and dominating as can be.
No doubt this temple was part of her trial, though in what way and for what purpose remained a mystery.

Shebi Ajava - PC
Shebi Ajava savours the shiver running down her spine, as it provides her with a stark contrast to the feeling at the Jedi Temple.
'I wonder whether the dark side here is somehow less focussed, or whether it is actually the same and I have changed', just as the thought popped into her head, another part of her consciousness recalls the events at the Hutt research station. She still remembers feeling as if a bottomless pit was coming for her during the investigation of 1341-8010J RSP, and this feeling is different from her previous experience with the dark side.
With unknown purpose, Ajava decided to start out by doing the smart thing. After locking the ship, she would walk around the temple first to get an idea of its size, extra exits, and possible side buildings. All the while paying attention to tracks or other evidence of recent activity she might find.
She plans her walk such, that she ends up in front of the temple again, at the main entrance. If she finds anything interesting, she will investigate it with the exception of other entrances which she just remembers for later. If the temple's surroundings are just that, she will enter the temple itself.

The temple building was huge, comprising of several separate towers and seeming to go on forever - this building was almost the size of the Jedi temple, with its own courtyards no doubt. Around the building were the ruins of smaller buildings, most of which only had part of the walls left standing. Their combined streets, squares and rooms gave the entire area the appearance of a large maze.
Despite lying in ruins, the location must have at one point been quite beautiful - almost every stone of the temple, the houses and even the streets, were decorated with images of strange - possibly local - animals as well as multi-armed near-humans. Snake-like creatures lined what remained of fences around balconies and stairways, statues stood on every corner and the walls of the temple had creatures on every inch of its surface.
Scanning around carefully, Shebi found several other entrances and exists to the building, some actual doors with stairs leading up to them, some windows and some holes that had crept into the walls or that had been left their by plant-life breaking its roots into the stones. None of the entrances seemed to offer anything immediately notable.
By the time she got back to the front of the temple and the main entrance, the area had gone dark as the sun had fully set, clouds overhead hiding the stars from view and with no natural or artificial lighting, Shebi felt herself bathed in darkness.

In the complete darkness, Shebi toggles her helmet's night vision mode. As she gives her eyes a a moment to get used to the artificial lighting, she observes that once you get used to the difference, this area's darker force feeling doesn't really hinder you.
Slowly, a small thought creeps into her mind: 'Maybe this light side and dark side division that some of the masters speak of depends more on what they experienced, than on how the force works...' She stores the thought for later, as she has a completely unknown task to complete.
After acquiring her vision, she enters the temple through the main entrance. She is careful to make sure to leave no tracks, and not to be too visible. Although there were no visible tracks, one or two large predators could easily have made a home in the building, to dine on creatures that wander in.

The blue colour of her night-vision did not seem to like the decorations, making many of the finest details seem bland and smooth, even as the larger decorations were still visible. As she moved inside she could feel the temperature dropping quickly, though perhaps it had always been cold inside the temple and Shebi was just picking up it...

Moving deeper inside she noticed an energy emanating from a large room, though she was quite sure there was little good about the dark energy. Heading towards it she barely picked up there inscriptions on the walls, and even when she did see them, she was unable to make them out with her nightvision - she'd need a regular lamp to attempt to read them which would leave her vulnerable as she'd not be able to see much else.
Further along the energy seemed to lead to a large room which featured a big stone altar on the opposite site of it, large, threatening statues standing on both sides of the path that led up to it, as if they were guarding it against intruders. The menacing looks on the statues faces made sure to communicate that either they wanted people to stay away from here or their race had not been breeding on looks as was more common amongst the Veolians.
Whatever it was, Shebi now had a choice - explore other parts of the temple, approach the altar past the scary statues or try and read the texts, but risk being vulnerable while she studied it.

She didn't want be too vulnerable and she really wanted to try and read some of the inscriptions before even approaching the altar.
'If this temple is as old as it looks, a few more hours of waiting won't hurt it', she thought to herself.
So Ajava decided to have a look around the rest of the temple as well, to get some idea of the relevant rooms and corridors. If the temple was really as large as it looked from the outside, she could easily spend hours walking around, and she planned on waiting with reading till it was daytime again, and there might be some light coming in through skylights or holes.
She starts exploring the rest of the temple, mentally building up a map of the temple's innards.

The temple was huge, and no doubt amazingly interesting and beautiful for the appreciating eye, but Shebi found little of interest save many large halls and rooms. It all seemed rather boring, as if this was just a badly timed tourist trip rather than a challenge for knighthood.

After about an hour, Shebi was quite sure she had seen everything. Notably the temple was not overgrown with plants, nor were there any animals inside, though perhaps one was the cause of the other - though beautiful, these stone sculptures did not offer much in the way of food after all.
Making her way back towards the hall with the creepy statues, she suddenly found herself confronted with a hall she hadn't seen before, filled with pillars leading towards a dark door. She could feel cold radiating from the door, and a fluster as if someone whispering in the distance, calling to her without ever making enough noise for her to hear the whisper.

Perhaps it was best to head towards the dark door, but then again, maybe she should head back and read the inscriptions or make her way to that altar she saw earlier.

'I guess that the Jedi temple would be equally boring if no one lived there any more', Realizing that she was being indecisive, Ajava resolved to try and read some of the texts before approach the altar. Moving back to the room with the statues, she enabled the normal lighting of her suit's helmet. She justified her reluctance to enter the door: 'Little of note, except for the altar and the door. Let's start with the altar then, I found that first.'
Though the bright light effectively made her blind against anything but the focus of her vision, she could still respond quickly if need be.
She set to work trying to make sense of the writing in hopes of gathering some idea of this temple's purpose, and the relevance of the altar. Though Ajava's method wasn't as ordered as the approach T'Sal would have taken, she knew how to work to her advantage. Quickly scanning the texts before paying attention to details, allowing herself to be guided by her impulses. She didn't bother taking notes. if she didn't remember something, it probably wasn't worth knowing right now, and the temple did not appear to be going anywhere fast.

Shebi carefully scanned over the text, trying to make sense of the writing. She wasn't able to make a perfect translation, but she did manage to get some fragments of the text.
From what she read apparently this room held the tomb of a fallen Jedi who had lived many centuries ago. That certainly explained some of the dark side energy Shebi could feel.
This fallen Jedi had found a method which allowed him to draw out hidden abilities based on his own genetic history, by re-activating genes that lay dormant on the genome through the force. According to the text, the abilities included things like being able to breathe underwater, to regenerate lost limbs, and to smell almost anything even at great distances.
According to the text only one of exceptional genetic purity could ever hope to master it. Unfortunately as he had fallen from the grace of the Jedi and because of the times of chaos limiting communications - the secret of his power would be lost if he died.
To prevent the loss of this most valuable knowledge, the fallen Jedi created a Holocron which contained his secrets, which he took with him to his grave... a grave which happens to be some 30 meters down that hall with the freaky statues.

Slightly disappointed by the fact that this temple seemed to be a burial site, Ajava was intrigued by the powers that were ascribed to this Jedi. She now has two points of interest in this complex: the sarcophagus and the dark door. As she knows something about the sarcophagus, that is the obvious starting point.
Ajava walks toward the sarcophagus, and ignores the ugly angry-looking statues for now. She inspects the sarcophagus' outsides. If there are no interesting details, she uses the force to push open the sarcophagus and have a look inside.

Suddenly Shebi's Jedi senses went haywire as she just barely managed to stop herself in time to avoid a dart flying out of one of the statues!
It didn't take Shebi long to realise that the path towards the sarcophagus was booby-trapped, though she couldn't see exactly how and where.
To get to the Sarcophagus - and the secrets it contained - she'd have to make her way past these traps somehow...

'So not only angry then', Ajava thought to herself, 'a test to see if the challenger is worthy'
Ajava takes a few steps back and closes her eyes, letting the feeling of the force around her wash over her.

Shebi Ajava bounced between the darts with expert accuracy, the bolts flying past her on all sides as she flawlessly made her way to the sarcophagus.
Inspecting the tomb, she would find ancient writing on the tomb, but this was a different language from the earlier writing and this one was beyond her ability to translate as she lacked references. Had this tomb been added to the temple? Was the temple build around the tomb? There was no way to be certain, but it was clear that this was writing from a different source.
Shebi Ajava sensed the dark side very strongly in this area and the central nexus of it seemed to be this tomb. Opening it might be dangerous, but it seemed the only way to access the holocron that was said to lay inside. If Shebi wanted to take any precautions, now was the time...

Upon finding another language on the tomb, Ajava questioned the story about the fallen Jedi. She made a mental note to rummage around in the ship's navigation system to find out where she actually is so she can return later to have another look at the writing.
For now, however, she disables her flashlight and waits until her eyes have adapted to the nightvision afforded by her visor. Intellectually knowing that dead bodies present little to no danger, Ajava instinctively grabbed her lightsaber before extending her other hand to push open the sarcophagus.

Forming a dark void in front of her for a moment, the darkness suddenly began to take the shape of a person, wearing a heavy black cloak that hid their face in the shadows. Readying her lightsaber, the Veolian Jedi would notice that her opponent was also using a Jedi stance, the same Shii-Cho she was using. That wasn't too surprising, the style had been passed down the Jedi for ages and was quite popular as every Padawan knew the style, but it indicated her opponent might have links with the Jedi order.
This didn't stop them from attack though! Her opponent pushed hard on the attack with wide and violent slashes, moving forward aggressively as they slammed both of the red sabers towards her. A split second she thought they were trying to get inside of her reach, but then a separate part of her brain warned the Veolian: TRAPS! Her opponent was trying to make her step back further into them and with the step back she had already taken she was mere centimetres away from getting darted to death!

Because this is an NPC, I will not be posting all statistics on them, nor will I post checks which I then approve or deny - that'd be silly. Instead, I will post their action and their totals, to allow you to properly defend yourself. If you use an offensive Direct Combat Action, I may change the action of the NPC as normal.

Shebi Ajava - PC
Ajava quickly reacts to the aggressive pushing by the creature. Instead of trying to use brute force to counter its moves, she dives to the side and rolls past the creature. She uses her momentum to make a flip that would land her on the sarcophagus, preventing the creature from pushing her into the traps, while at the same time using her higher position to offer her more offensive options.

The openen spun around, continuing their agression. As she jumped onto the Sarcophagus, Shebi would notice that the tomb was empty, no holocrons or other data carriers being present in the sarcophagus. If the legend was true, the knowledge she was seeking was held by her opponent - hopefully it was carrying a holocron rather than having it memorized, though really why would it have anything memorized while dead? Was it dead? It remained uncertain, but it sure was fighting!
The creature raised a hand, saber in two fingers and three the others outstretched. Suddenly Ajava could feel the lid of the sarcophagus move from under her, being telekinetically flung away to crash against the wall. The momentary imbalance was immidiately abused by two lightsabers slamming at her!

Shebi Ajava - PC
As Ajava had already recognized the combat style of her opponent, she started to panic as she realized that she was at a severe disadvantage. Given that this Jedi was actually trained in Shii-Cho, and would most likely have fallen from grace after becoming a Jedi knight, it would surely know the Sun Djem technique.
Fortunately, both her veolian training as a special operative and her Jedi training kicked in at the same time.
Her veolian mind immediately came up with multiple outcomes of the current situation: she saw herself die in a number of horrid ways. The best outcome she could envision right now was a stalemate. Her opponent would not be able to make a decisive move... But neither would she, and a small part of her brain was yelling at her that dead people don't tire, nor should they be able to fight!
Her jedi mind told her that this creature, whatever it was, was somehow bound to this place. And as this place was overflowing with darkness, the creature therefore must have a connection with the force. It might not be a side of the force she was accustomed to, but that was no reason to assume that it was a mindless, goalless creature.
As these thoughts shot through her conscious mind, another part of her was already working together with her body to move out of the way of the creature... Slightly jumping up from her uncertain footing, she put her foot down on the stable edge of the sarcophagus and twisted to the side, out of the way of the opponent's arc. This twisting dodge allows her lightsaber room for a counter attack while she gracefully steps down from the sarcophagus to end up to the side of the sarcophagus, a location from where she could move towards the traps.
At the same time, she reached out with her mind to test her theory. "Why are you attacking me?", she projected towards the creature in an effort to determine what it wanted.
She hoped that it would somehow have a connection with the force, as she had already formed a plan to attack the creature: she would disappear and strike without warning.

((OOC: Your action to dodge is not very flashy, but since this is a PvE move I will allow it :P The 13 is certainly enough. APPROVED))
As she reached out with her mind, Ajava seemed to be unable to lay a connection, only finding echo's of what she was sending out as if she was in a large empty room made of stone, the sound bouncing off the dark walls in the distance.
The creature meanwhile continued to press its attack with relentless fervour, blades slashing fast and furiously and with a lot of strength behind them. The creature seemed to be driven by pure rage, as if its anger was the reason it was still able to fight so long after its death. It rushed forward for great justice, seeming to be screaming with rancour* though it produced no sound in its scream.
So far, the creatures aggressiveness seemed to have them in a stalemate. Ajava was able to keep herself from being killed but that was about it and she would not be able to keep this up forever - if she slipped up and made a mistake... she'd have to come up with something creative if she was to have a chance here!

Shebi Ajava - PC
The creature did exactly what Ajava hoped, it rushed her without thinking ahead.
Knowing that her timing would be crucial, Ajava waited till the last moment while her opponent hammered away on her failing parries and blocks. Just before she would be hit by a critical blow, she suddenly waved her hand over her opponents face, and rolled behind the sarcophagus. Trusting her connection with the force to offer her the distraction she needed, she continued her roll to end up with the sarcophagus between her and her opponent, using it as cover while staying low and out of sight.
She had just used her Mind Trick to trick the opponent into not seeing her, hoping that this would actually confuse him into thinking he had actually defeated her with his frontal assault. if he was confused, he might drop his guard so she could continue with a strong follow-up attack.

Ajava attempted to mislead the mind of her opponent, diving behind the sarcophagus. All seemed to work, and she readied to attack, using the moment of confusion, but as soon as she got out from behind the sarcophagus, her opponent was gone! Moreover, there was not a single trace of them, no holocron crystal, no data cubes, nothing!
In fact, the entire hall appeared empty except for the lid of the sarcophagus which had been tossed aside, the creepy statues and some darts left over from earlier attempts by the traps to kill the Veolian Jedi. Where had the creature gone? Had it fled or returned to its resting place the moment it had thought it had defeated the Jedi?
This wasn't very logical.
