A Union vessel carrying top secret software code related to the Hyperspace Lane in Sector 13 -2 suffered a malfunction and was forced to land on Ranorus, a small planet in the Rivin system. The code they carry can be used by slicers to gain access to the computers controlling the Hyperspace Lane, which in turn would allow pirates to easily predict when and where to intercept valuable cargo.

The ship was ordered to hold radio silence while the six crew await rescue, to prevent drawing in unwanted elements who might try to steal the code.

To complicate the mission, Sector 13 -2 is currently in a sensitive state due to discussions between the Free Confederacy and the Union over the territory. Thus, rather than risking confrontation with a military rescue as warranted given the importance of the data, the Council is sending a small group of Jedi to retrieve the software code and passengers.

Ranorus itself is known for its red marshes. It should be noted that while the planet has an atmosphere, the air is not breathable for most species due to dangerous spores. Below is an archived image of the world.

((OOC: 4 players signed up, but I only have room for 3. Ariana and Trigiel are both in my other adventure, so I would drop one of them first.

Both Jedi have the same force level and both have completed 8 missions. I am having a hard time choosing which one to drop, so the only fair solution I could find was to drop both and run for Nebesnogo and Nathan together. Since both players get a spot in a different adventure anyway, I do not feel this is unreasonable.

As a final note: Nebesnogo, you indicated you may not be able to commit to the posting frequency. I don't mind if a post is missed on a rare occasion, so do not worry if something goes overboard once or twice. That said, if you believe missed posts may be a regular thing, you might consider withdrawing to make room for Ariana and Trigiel.))

((OOC: Okay, noted. The Jedi in this story will be Nebesnogo and Nathan.))

Travelling through hyperspace was mostly uninteresting, with the final jump under way, the ship would soon be arriving above Ranorus. From there, sensors would likely be able to pick up the wreckage of the crashed ship. If all went well, they would land, get the crew and the code inside and fly off back to Unity...

((OOC: With your opening post, please provide a list of the equipment you are bringing.))

Nathan spent his time travelling through hyperspace useful. He checked the Union vessel's maintenance logs and ran a background check on the crew. Looking for any sign that the malfunction wasn't a malfunction.

The situation didn't sit right with him. The chance a ship carrying top secret information would experience a malfunction severe enough to force it to land was a coincidence seemed unlikely.

He had packed according to that feeling.

Nebesnogo also spent his time wisely he made sure that his environmental suit that would protect him from the spores would function correctly.

He also tried it on a few times so he would know how it would impede his mobility and flying abilities.

He had also taken quite an extensive tool kit with him together with as many spare parts he was allowed for the type of vessel they were to save.
((OOC: Equipment:
- Lightsaber short blade regular hilt.
- microphone headset radio.
- blaster pistol
- the biggest tool box he can carry with tools for fixing ships.
- an even bigger toolbox for on there own ship so he could if he needed get a tool form there ships and haul it over.
- an environmental suit so the spores in the air don't kill him.
- as much spare parts as they were willing to give him.
- scuttling charges to turn the stricken union vessel into a pile of molten steel if necessary.
- enough rations to last a week
- and a large tarpaulin with ropes and sticks to make a simple tent somewhere.))

Nathan was unable to find much in the way of information on the crew. He managed a list of names, but that was not very helpful. No doubt the secrecy about the crew had been deliberate, an effort to protect the mission which now was biting them in the ass.

As the ship orbited Ranorus, the sensors soon picked up on the vessel, which had apparently crash-landed in the red marshes below. Notably, sensors noted there were two ships. From their locations, it was also possible this the ship had broken up into two pieces, but that was impossible to tell from up here due to spore clouds hanging over the area, messing up sensors.

If the ship had indeed broken up, Nebesnogo's efforts to fix the ship might very well be in vain - he could repair a broken coupling or engine, but if the ships superstructure was broken, that meant the ship was a total loss. Regardless, the Jedi's current vessel should be large enough to carry all the crew.

Fortunately, despite being marsh-lands, the surface was solid enough to hold the ships - even if it was somewhat wet.

Nathan exited the ship after it had landed, his cybernetic lungs filtering out the spores allowing him to breath. While he waited for Nebesnogo he took a long good look around.

He was trying to determine if the ship had broken in two or if there where two ships and if so who the other ship belonged to.

((Check: 9 = 5 Force Level + 4 Vision -- trying to determine if there are two ships or if the ship broke in two))

He also checked if he could find a distress beacon or escape pods.

Nebesnogo was busy putting his hazmat suit on in doing so he was to busy to make a suggestion to nathan.

nathan sound check? he said before following after him. "Ehh nathan maybe we could have done a fly over with our ship before you went and started slogging trough the swamp?" he said as he came to hoover near the large cyborg his voice distorted by his breathing mask.

"But now were down here lets find out what we can do." and he went looking around for the ships en looking for crash marks and the like.

Before the two Jedi lay a large vessel, resting on its belly rather than its landing gear, with some steam coming from the ship, likely excess engine heat evaporating the water from the marsh. The ship appeared - from the outside at least - to be mostly intact and no escape pods were missing. Still, it clearly needed a new paint-job from the scrapes it made while landing, having left a nice ditch behind it in the landing that had already filled up with marsh water. The exit hatch of the vessel was open, but there were no crew visible.

The other signature the Jedi had seen on sensors was a smaller Y-wing vessel, a shuttle of some sort for a small crew, which had been parked on the ground nearby. Perhaps it was a passer-by who had noticed the ship? No beacons of any type were active though so how the ship had found the crashed vessel remained a mystery. Regardless, there were no signs of battle or conflict at first glance.

Checking around the vessel, there were some very odd - and rather chaotic - drag marks leading away from the ship, as if someone had put a plough behind a drunken ox, leaving a very strange trail in the red marshland. This clearly hadn't been caused by the crash.

"Nathan, I think we should first find out if the crew is still on-board and then see if the data is still there. Because I don't see anyone around here but us." Having said that he flew closer to the bigger ship and used the force to feel if there was anyone living still in the vessel.

"Agreed, but keep your guard up. I got a bad feeling about this."

And that was the truth, he couldn't help but feel like things would go wrong any moment.

Moving to the vessel he tried to spot any danger.

"If you find any one in there wait with making contact."

Nebesnogo tried to sense inside the ship, but he was unable to pick up anything - that did not mean there wasn't anyone there: it might be hidden or difficult to detect. He did get sense a feeling of fear and adrenaline though, as if something was wrong...

Nathan meanwhile moved up to the entrance of the ship, looking inside to see trails of dirt on the exit ramp. From here, he could see the ships cargo bay. Checking it out with his advanced eyes, he quickly determined there was nobody in the cargo bay, so if anyone was inside, they had to be in the cockpit on the other end of the ship. The ships computer appeared to be operational, judging from the active computer screens. It might contain important information about the crash, though it was unlikely to contain the data they had been sent for.

Nathan and Nebesnogo conversed with one another, needing to actually take an action to get ahead with their story.

As Jedi, they were experienced in careful contemplation, and in some cases it was exceptionally difficult to decide what course of action to take, such as when they were confronted with choices. Such choices could be quite meaningful, spelling death and ruin, or happiness and success for many people and in fact entire worlds, so it was logical that they would be hesitant to take actions too hastily. Not yet having properly started their adventure though - this still being the introductory phase - fortunately meant this was not one of those situations.

Still, no doubt worried a choice or action would cause irreparable damage to the universe through unintended consequences, the Jedi remained inactive.

Luckily, both Nathan and Nebesnogo knew that there existed some types of actions which they could take - such as looking around or investigating specific objects - that would not cause any actual serious harm, but would merely provide them with more information that they could then use to make decisions. Such actions might however prompt the storyteller to give them more information as to what was going on, allowing them to gain more insight into the narrative of the events or perhaps even advance the plot further.

Nathan linked himself to the ship's computer. Carefully to avoid detection. Nebesnogo's words didn't exactly help his bad feeling.

He looked for the software on the computer, he also looked if he could get access to the ship's internal sensors.

((Check: 11 = 5 Force Level + 4 Reason + 2 Slicing -- Accessing the ship's computer undetected))

If he managed to access the sensors he'd check if there was anyone on board, besides him and Nebesnogo, and if he could identify them.

((OOC: Your slicing check is approved.))

Nathan interfaced with the computer, successfully slicing his way into the system. The internal sensors showed there was nobody on board - not any more anyway.

He did however notice something - the ship had security camera's. And he could access their most recent recordings

Scanning through the events on the ship, he saw the ships docking bay being opened on the planets surface, followed by three individuals, a Rotian, a Wookiee and a human, entering the vessel with drawn guns. Not soon after they guided the ships crew, holding their hands in the air, out of the vessel.

Unfortunately, the ship did not have its outside security camera's active.

Perhaps the other ship here had brought the three here. But if so, where had they gone?

"Well since there is no one here ill go check and see if this thing is still space worthy. Then we can check the other ship." he said after having seen that video footage over Nathan's shoulder.

he then went of to check and see if the ship was still functional and if anything had gotten damaged.

As he hadn't found it yet, Nathan continued to look for the software. After he had completed that he would check the external sensors to see if they could pinpoint the crew and their captures.

Nebesnogo soon determined that the ship had indeed suffered damage - the hyperdrive engine was blown and the heat distribution system was severely damaged. The landing had also caused some damage. All in all, the ship was not currently capable of sustained space flight. It could be salvaged and repaired however, but that would take time.

Nathan meanwhile interfaced with the external sensors, but found them to be rather useless for the purpose he needed them for. The ships sensors were designed for picking up objects in space at long distances and simply did not have the resolution to pick out people. It looked like they would have to use tracking skills rather than sensors to find what they were looking for. Fortunately the tracks outside seemed rather obvious...
