[14 -8] Investigating the Tunuaranan moonquakes
"I will take a look at the data-crystals, who can ask the scouts?" Jaicen said while starting to walk to the equipment of the deceased rodians.
((Check: 14 = 5 Force Level + 5 Reason + 4 Programming -- Investigating the Datacrystals))
((OOC: Assuming no data is on the crystals))
"Hmmm, I expected as much ...... although I was also interested in the interface of the satellites, perhaps it is comparable to my interface, since mine is also from the Jedi Academy." Jaicen said after investigating the data crystals.

((OOC: Brend did you had something explicit in mind with teaming Trigiel up with Jaicen? Otherwise I suggest to team up Jaicen with Ariana with the following reasons: I believe this fits better with the skill sets of the Jedi and allows Jaicen to be cooler. It prevents a 'you are crippled and cannot do anything' scenario as with the Xomlirga.))
"I agree with the scientific approach and the field search. The scientists were heading to Orilon, so I suggest me and Padawan Darones going there and then head to the temple or what's left of it. Padawan Jaicen, you can go with Ariana."
If no one objects, Trigiel says to Darones: "let's ask the scouts."
The cyborg goes looking for the scouts, preferably with Darones, and asks them the weather condition around Orilon, if they want to accompany them and if they mind to fly the first part. The Taun-Tauns should be able to come along.
((Check: 11 = 7 Force Level + 4 Reason -- To make an estimation if the Taun-Tauns can come along in their space-ship.))

"We are almost set then," Darones replied after both Jaicen and Trigiel had set forth their opinion. "We'll see what we can find, but first asking the scouts might be a good idea indeed."
After that Darones went around with Trigiel to find the scouts.

Ariana followed Jaicen and assisted him with the datacrystals by pointing out what to look for. After Jaicen looked at them she hooked one of the datacrystals up on her communication pad and started a data retrieval program to look for even the smallest fragment of data and possibly start a reconstruction program.

((OOC: I did indeed ask for Jaicen and Trigiel not to be in the same team. Since you have nicely split into two groups with Jaicen+Ariana and Trigiel+Darones that suits me perfectly.
@All: Jaicen somehow concluded that the three deceased scientists are Rodians. This was never established. What was established as that the scouts that found the bodies are Rodians. To keep the flow goings, I hereby establish that two of the deceased were also Rodian, the third being human.
@Chriz: The Mu collective replied to your message a while ago... Unless you have contacted them again somewhere after that and I completely missed it.

The Jedi quickly discuss their work before splitting into groups to get to work.
Ariana and Jaicen are brought to a tent where a lot of equipment is stored. There, the equipment found with the three bodies is laid out on a table. The statement that it is "literally a fried heap" is mostly correct.
Working together the two Jedi set up probing equipment and start the retrieval program to see if any data can still be retrieved.
While the program runs, Ariana inspects the fried equipment. She recognizes a few pieces of equipment -- a radiation gauge, some seismographic sensors -- but most of it is partially or completely melted beyond recognition.
After half an hour the program completed with a *bleep*, stating: Scan complete. No recoverable storage cells.. The Jedi spent another quarter of an hour to try some low-level tricks Ariana knows, but unfortunately it seems that there was indeed little to be recovered from the equipment.
Trigiel and Darones easily found the scouts. They have set up a tent at the edge of the camp. Their tauntaun's stand restlessly outside looking at Trigiel and Darones as they approach with curious, small beady eyes.
The scouts are happy to talk with the Jedi, and seem to do so with some enthusiasm. They can tell that Orilon is high in the mountains and that strong winds are normal there; they do not know the exact weather right now, but two weeks ago there were unusually strong storms going on.
The scouts are glad to accompany the Jedi, as long as their tauntaun's can come along. Trigiel estimates that the cargo bay of their light freighter they flew here can easily accomodate not only these tauntaun's, but another four or five and enough feed for two weeks.
Enthusiastic, the scouts started packing their gear and loading it onto the tauntaun's. They say they'll be all packed in three quarters of an hour, and will wait for Trigiel near the ship.
True to his word, the bishop lands just as the Jedi were ready to depart. His shuttle landed next to the Jedi's larger freighter.
A moment later, after the shuttle's engines shut off, the hatch opens to extend a ramp. Two figures walk down the ramp in a calm manner. The first figure is bishop Loshro Dunefis, a neimoidian wearing a large brown bishoply hat and long brown robe. Following him is the muscular togruta Kupud Umakra, the bishop's advisor on security. His assistant in spiritual matters was currently absent.
"Greetings Jedi", the bishop spoke warmly, "It is good to see you once more.". When he notices Trigiel, he introduces himself "I am Loshro Dunefis, bisop of Mo'Irin. It is an honour to meet you, Jedi."
"If there is anything I can do to help you in your quest to discover why the gods visit such punishments upon our moons, do not hesitate to tell me.", he states.
Before the Jedi can even reply, he looks at the freighter and makes a gesture to bless the freighter. It is clear that the scouts see this as a significant action.

After talking to the scout's Darones said to Trigiel, "Bringing a few tauntaun's was probably a good idea, though we should also look to getting a bit more supplies, since I suspect our journey will not be easy. I'll see to the preparations. I wonder however, whether we should ask the Bishop, or one of his aides, to accompany us; I would not wish to offend the Gods nor the people here, by disrespecting temples, destroyed or not."
((Check: 12 = 7 Force Level + 5 Intuition -- Using his contacts in the camp to arrange for the use of Tauntaun's and additional supplies.))
Once the arrangements had been made, Darones returned to the scientists and asked them one more question.
"After the original quakes in the area, have their been any more? Or perhaps any other effects or events that seem to be out of place?"

((OOC: A short note on time-flow: Darones did have three-quarters of an hour to do stuff, so this reply is BEFORE the bishop lands. After this post, normal time is re-established and you are all near the ship! (Also, since Trigiel did not make a quick post, he is using his time wisely...)
Normally, no checks are taken for social interaction. But I think that this is a good check for the actual "skipping of the roleplay itself" to keep the thread moving. Check approved.))
Ariana and Jaicen are busy with the fried equipment, the scouts are packing their things, and Trigiel wisely busies himself with making sure that the tauntauns will not escape from the cargo bay to run amok through the ship.
It is during this time that Darones' participation in the previous mission to the moons pays of. He uses his contacts in the camp from last time to secure three additional tauntaun's. Two of them will be used with saddles, while the third gets a cargo harness to carry heavy equipment, rations and supplies. Furthermore, Darones convinces the part-time quartermaster of the science camp to part with enough supplies to keep the jedi fed for at least a week.
After spending nearly 40 minutes on arranging additional supplies and beasts of burden, he finds one of the scientists that works with the sensor equipment. The answers to his questions seem to be simple: there have been several severe after-quakes, but no really unexpected occurrences. The scientists goes over his logs for a while, but does not find a note of anything that seems out of place.
Just then, Darones hears and sees the shuttle of the bishop coming in for the landing.

After the bishop makes his gesture of blessing, he turns back to the Jedi, patiently waiting for them to speak up about any help they might need...
((OOC: I had a week of larp in germany, so I didn't respond :())
Jaicen's TG-100 made a small bow and Jaicen said: "Welcome Bishop Loshro Dunefis, Welcome Kupud Umakra, Many thanks that you have taken the time to come here. we would firstly like to have your blessing for these two operations and, if appropriate, maybe a second opinion on the security matters of the missions."
Jaicen looked at the other Jedi in his group: "Did I forget anything?"

The bishop seems lost in thought for a moment, seemingly thinking over the questions.
"Discovering why the gods visit such destruction upon us is an important task, and you have my blessing for your quest. I am not sure what security mattters ought to be discussed, but Kupud Umakra", he motions to the muscular togruta, "can help you there. Though I must say, I think there is little to discuss. Temples are safe places after all."
He looks at Darones.
"Traditionally, those visiting the temples of Si'Aalin bring a small offering of burnt wood, or volcano ashes, if available. It is necessary to cleanse oneself before entering the temple, the washing of hands and face can be done at the pools in the first ahll of the temple. Do not forget to place the offering in the fire bowl in the first hall before cleansing and entering the temple proper. If you do such, you will not offende the gods."
He looks at the Jedi, not sure if they want to ask further questions, or if they are ready to leave.

"Thank you for your answers Bishop, I think we are ready to leave." And turning towards the other Jedi: "I suppose we can go then, good luck Darones and Fecta! I suppose we will keep in contact via our communicators and meet up here as a backup plan?"
"Since we only have one ship I guess it is best if we drop Trigiel and Darones and their taun tauns off at the landing spot. We could return in for example 3 days to pick them up or they could contact us with a communicator to get a lift earlier.
After that we will take the ship to make detailed scans of the epicenters.
I currently have three approaches in mind for this.
First we could travel to the satellite in orbit to connect with it and collect the measurements and possibly do additional focused scans.
Furthermore we could contact the mu collective and ask them to assist us with the scans of the five epicenters.
Finally my last idea is to travel to the locations with our ship and perform scans in the vicinity.
I propose to try these things in this order Jaicen. However, let's first ask the scientists for any information they have about the satellite and possibly scanning equipment that can be attached to our ship to boost its scanning capability. Maybe one of the scientists could accompany us to assist as well?"
Ariana met up with the lead scientist.
"Me and Jaicen are going to gather more information about the five epicenters. We plan to travel to the satellite to connect with it and get the measurements. Do you have any specifications or other information that could help us with that? Furthermore as an alternative we plan to fly to the locations of the epicenters with our ship and perform scans of our own. Do you have any equipment that could boost our scanning capabilities? Finally I want to ask if one of your scientists is willing to join us in these endeavors? Maybe one of you could provide technical support and better insight on the local situation."

Don't get me wrong: I applaud your enthiusiasm, and in this specific case, though, I think everyone will agree that we should keep the mission moving quickly!
Keep in mind though that reacting to your actions is difficult for others if you declare a plan and immediately storm off ^_^))
The lead scientists thought about Ariana's the requests for a moment.
"Well, the satellite was built by your people. We lack the proper transceiver equipment and interfacing program, so we do not really have a way of connecting with it. Nor do we know it's interfacing protocol. I'm sure that that information will reach us in time, but you probably know more than we do already. Travelling to the satellite and connecting with it sounds like a good plan.
We do not really have any scanning equipment that would help to outfit a ship. Though we do have a very nice ground penetrating radar system. That was not originally constructed for use from orbit though, so I don't think that will work. If you are actually travelling to the locations of the epicenters, you should come back to pick it up in a few days. That would also be the moment one of our scientists might be able join you. Right now, we have too much work, and too little manpower. I understand that knowing the reasons for these quakes is relevant, but I think our time is better spent predicting the next quake and helping with damage analysis and control."
"Maybe you can find someone else with technical know-how that knows our culture to help you out? The bishop is a well-connected man. Maybe he can arrange for someone to be flown in and meet you in orbit?"

Ariana waited for Darones and the scouts to come aboard. With everybody on board and a cargo hold full of tauntaun's Ariana fired up the engines. Ariana directed the ship to the landing site on the way to Orilon.

With a hold full of tauntauns, loads of supplies and rations stashed away, and all the jedi and the scouts aboard Ariana fires up the engines. The ship lurches into the sky with the subtlety that can be expected from a cargo freighter.
The first one-and-a-half hours of the flight in the direction of the mountains is uneventful. Darones talks a little with the scouts, and now has a general idea of the geography of the area around Orilon. Unfortunately, the scouts do not maintain maps and instead rely on their knowledge of the terrain to navigate.
Half an hour before the ship should arrive at Orilon the ships "early warning" klaxon starts to blare!
Ariana, manually piloting the ship because of the lack of locator beacons on this planet, spots the reason for the alarm immediately. The other Jedi only spot the problem when they come to the cockpit to look out the window.
Through the cockpit window they can see that the whole horizon towards Orilon is filled with thick, dark storm clouds. The clouds are so voluminous that they almost completely obscure the complete mountain range. The angry roiling motion of the clouds temporarily tears holes into the cloud layer every once in a while, showing a spectacular display of internal lightning bolt discharges.

The ship's scanners indicate that the storm front is at least 250 kilometers wide. The scanners can not penetrate the storm to determine it's depth. The interference from the storm itself appears to be enough to jam any scanning as well as radio-based communicators.
Everyone with even the most basic training in piloting knows that flying into such a storm is basically suicide for most pilots.
Luckily, the ships warning systems are calibrated with the "err in the side of safety" philosophy, meaning there is still about another seventy kilometer to go before their flightpath takes them into the storm itself. But from the edge of the storm it would still leave them a two day's trek by tauntaun toward Orilon, and even more to the temple itself...

But from the edge of the storm it would still leave them a two day's trek by tauntaun toward Orilon, and even more to the temple itself...
"Are you kidding me. I am not flying into this storm. Let me guess this is normal on this planet and the storm will last the whole season...
I hope you guys don't mind a longer hike. We have to find a suitable landing site in the next 50 kilometers to stay on the safe site. I am not going to risk getting stuck on this rock without a ship."
Ariana left the ship on auto pilot and quickly moved to the scanning console on the right side of the ship. She started to scan the terrain about 50 kilometers ahead of them to find a suitable landing spot. Furthermore she scanned the storm to determine the rate at which it was moving towards them. This could affect her calculation which would mean she had to scan for a landing site much closer to their current location.
"Darones take the helm. We might need to land manually."
