A call came to the Jedi from the Chancellor, requesting a group of the most capable Jedi to travel to Remunzia in the midst of war. The exact details of the mission were not listed in the call, but no doubt it would be a dangerous mission, intended only for the most powerful Jedi.

((OOC: This mission is in relation to the events in Sector 12 -3 (see Remunzian Liberation <Battle>.

The mission is intended for high level Jedi, minimum force level 8. There was a separate mission for lower level Jedi earlier. If you are interested, please report in this thread, not in the battle thread.))

Ajava, after some pondering, decides to go on this mission as well. Especially as she remembers how the last mission during wartime led to several Jedi simply accepting kill orders from the Senate without independent thought.

"This..." the Jedi master looked both serious and concerned "is a mission of the utmost importance."

he paused for effect, looking the Jedi who had volunteered in the eyes one by one

"It will be dangerous, and you may find yourself in a situation where you have to sacrifice yourself for others. I trust that you both are in tune with the force and will know what to do when the time comes. You will not know much ahead of time, and will need to adjust to the circumstances you find once you get there."

He paced back and forth a moment

"As you know, Remunzia is currently suffering under the occupation of the Slave Rebellion. The Remunzians are a peaceful people, and not equipped to deal with the violence of the occupation. We are sending you to them to attempt to save as many as you can and to do what is possible to ease their suffering. Even if you cannot save them all, your presence and efforts will give hope to the people of Remunzia and will no doubt be much welcomed. The Force will guide you.

As a secondary objective, you will keep an eye out for anything that can offer an advantage to the Union Fleets attempting to liberate the planet. You will no doubt see what is possible when you arrive. In this too, trust in the Force.

You will be going in with a small ship, as it is the only way you can be inserted onto the planet while the battle rages. The ship is intended to be a one-way vessel - so you will need to find other transportation back."

he looked at the Jedi

"Ask what questions you must, but know that I cannot provide a lot of answers. Then get what you need and let me know when you are ready."

((OOC: This mission briefing is deliberately lacking details on what you will find once you reach Remunzia. As Jedi of your level, you are versatile enough to handle this part of the challenge. As always, trust in the plot Force.

Note that you will not get any access to backup or support from the Union or other fleets in the sector, and you will rely on your own devices, but you may presume Remunzia has enough basic food and medicine so you don't need to bring a MTCF full of supplies.

When you are ready, please also post what you are bringing.))

((OOC: This mission is as top secret as they get. However since the Senate voted for special enforcement and several powerful Jedi are called in for a mission I believe your Jedi is capable of adding the pieces together.))

Ariana only had two questions. "Since Remunzia is pretty big it would be nice to know what area of the planet we should focus on. Has our landing / crash site already been selected? Do we have a contact on the ground that we can or should meet up with? "

After discussing the mission Ariana collected her equipment. After fetching her basic equipment from the Jedi temple she quickly moved to the Praetorian Embassy to collect some gear from one of her military contacts that was on Union with a delivery. The contact handed her a steel suitcase and a small box which she took with her to their ship.

((OOC: Equipment for Ariana:
  • Dagger blade and regular blade lightsabers with short handles
  • Communication pad (A very advanced touchscreen computer device for communication and interfacing with larger systems)
  • Aerodynamic Backpack (containing First Aid Kit, Engineers Kit and the communication pad), worn
  • A wireless communicator headset, worn
  • Three sets of 5 lightweight throwing knives
  • A99 Aquata Breather
  • A sealed emergency pack with survival gear for a week: (e.g., sturdy space-proof backpack, chemical water purifier, water bag, rations, single person tent, flashlight, emergency radio, a few chemical torches, sturdy rope, etc.)
  • Steel suitcase filled with a disassembled high caliber sniper rifle and scope (with night-vision).
  • Small box with four small timed detonation charges

Ajava listens intently. It is clear to her that they will be going into an unknown situation.

She understand Ariana's questions, but does not expect her colleague to have an answer. Remunzia is a warzone now, and nothing can be known about such a place without being there. Still, she listens well. Master Screetor is well-known for his insights, and it would not surprise her if he has gleaned some small piece of knowledge that might help.

Afterwards, she goes to retrieve her bow from her room before going to quartermaster Nishra to discuss her equipment. When she is satisfied with what little she wishes to bring, she heads back to meet Screetor.

Ajava opted to replace her normal armor with an Onyx Series 5 armor. Furthermore, to keep as much maneouverability and stealthiness, this specific armor is matte gray with green, and lacks any electrical components. The only subsystem Ajava kept in the armor was the rebreather. Attached to the armor is a quiver of durasteel-tipped arrows and her composite recurve bow.

She eschews electronics — partly in deference to the Remunzian way of life, and partly to enhance her ability to operate undetectably. She does not need a communicator as her command of the Force allows her to telepathically link to Ariana for days if need be. And a translator shouldn't be necessary as most remunzians speak galactic basic as well as remunzian. Furthermore, she has practiced Ryl over the years and is an adept listener, though the lack of flexible lekku make her a somewhat awkward speaker.

A beacon of hope is only a beacon if it is recognizable as such: so, over the thin Onyx Series armor she wears a traditional Jedi robe with her lightsabers clearly visible on her belt. She did make sure that the robes allow her to quickly grab bow and arrow if needed.

"Worry not, master Screetor.", she assures her old mentor, "We will find guidance in the Force, and we will see you again."

((OOC: Equipment:
  • Her lightsabers, Talavāra and Katāra, worn on belt over robes
  • Her composite recurve bow, with 35 durasteel-tipped arrows
  • Onyx Series 5, stripped-down to only feature: Carbon nano-fiber plating; allowing the attachment of both lightsaber to the left and right thighs, and a bow on the back; rebreather subsystem to allow underwater operation or survival of gas attacks
  • custom Jedi robes, worn over the Onyx Series 5, with allowance for grabbing bow
The Onyx Series 5 armor is not meant as protection against Jedi-level operatives, but it does offer some protection from blasters, knifes and environmental nastyness.))

A message came in, addressed to the Jedi Masters council:

Dear Honored Masters,

I am Padawan Jaicen Hedoss and I have been on several missions.
Before the occupation of Remunzia by the slave rebellion, I've been with my master Trigiel and master Ajava towards this system to learn from a force being on a jungleplanet.

We did not succeed in learning the secrets of this mysterious force being, as can be read in the mission report. However we made a friend due to mutual understanding on this jungleplanet, who pledged to assist us if we would need it.

Although it is secret I assume Jedi action will be undertaken towards the occupied planet. Therefore I'd like to ask you to consider asking this friendly being for help. Since she is partially Remunzian, or at least her image is, it might also be in her interest to help her people.

I hope I did not disturb you and provided insight.

"We have no idea what area of the planet you will be able to land on." Master Screetor explained in regards to Ariana's question "The situation is changing too quickly and too dramatically to make that decision here. You will need to improvise when you arrive."

He looked at Ariana "The Remunzian resistance is... likely to be ineffective. I would not count on them providing any meaningful contacts or operatives. However, the local population tends to honour and respect the Jedi. They may be willing to help you - though I suspect they will need your help more than the other way around."

With the Jedi packed, their ship soon left towards the Remunzia.

((OOC: I am presuming nobody will object to skipping towards insertion, but if you want to take other actions beforehand such as dropping by a different planet, you can put that in your post and we'll consider it happening "before"))

When the Jedi ship arrived at Remunzia, a space battle of massive proportions was already taking place there, with more fighting taking place on the planet itself. Boarding actions were taking place, and ships being destroyed. There was so much chaos that it was almost impossible to determine what was going on.

That chaos was probably an opportunity for the Jedi to sneak past the Slave Rebellion forces and get in, but it would not be as easy as it seemed in theory. Flying through this and surviving would require one hell of a pilot...

((OOC: One of you will need to fly the ship. I strongly suggest using the best pilot you have, because it will determine if and if so how you land on the planet!

Note: The image is a mood image only and should not be considered accurate in the details - for one, you can't fly "over" the battle))

((OOC: I am operating under the presumption that Exa-12 (where the Xomlirga resides) is in a different system than the Remunzian home world — and that going there would cost precious time. If they are in the same system, my actions would have been to first fly past Exa-12 to appraise the Xomlirga of the current engagement via Telepathic message and to wait around for about 15 minutes at most for a reply.))

Before approaching the battle itself, Ajava informs Ariana that she would like to perform a short ceremony. The goal of the ceremony is to connect their minds such that they can telepathically communicate for the rest of the day, without relying on radio: "The best way to prevent detection, is not to give of any signals at all.", Ajava explains her approach to stealth.

After Ariana agrees, Ajava performs the necessary rituals before letting the Praetorian guide their descent onto the planet.

Even though the battle seems chaotic, Ajava pays attention to the planet's appearance all the while during the descent. She might not remember any details when they've arrived. Yet, she knows that subconciously she will have a better impression of their surroundings this way — of the relative directions of large areas of destruction, mountain ranges, and other feature that can be perceived during the descent.

"I know the ritual. I agree it is better than using radio communication. "

After performing the ritual Ariana moved towards the navigation console and looked at their current position and landing options.

"Will you land the ship, since I have not had enough training for these kind of vessels yet. I will coordinate from the navigation console."

"It is training that never leaves you.", Ajava simply replies as she sits down in the pilot seat.

She tries to evade the hot-spots of the battle, and moves swiftly. Not expecting the ship to take them back up makes certain risks acceptable, and allows a bit more in the way of manouvering. Ajava has a plan for when they are fired upon by someone with persistence: cut the engine and freefall into the atmosphere for a moment, giving the impression of being shot down, then when out of range of the attacker reactivating the engines and trying for the best possible crash-landing.

((Check: 17 = 10 Force Level + 6 Vision + 1 Pilot -- Landing or gently crashing the ship))

((OOC: I am really unsure about the actual Attribute that goes well with Pilot... Strength makes a bit of sense, but it isn't really about manipulating the world directly. It isn't about controlling your own body either so Fitness is out as well. Since Vision and Intuition are of equal rating for Ajava, I simply picked Vision. It seems fitting that it is a Physical attribute at least.))

((OOC: Exa-12 is not in the Remunzian system, but elsewhere in the same sector.))

Ajava and Ariana established a telepathic bond, connecting their minds for covert communications.

Ariana scanned for a landing spot, navigating Shebi Ajava towards there via a route that passed by some of the planetary defenses - that was important because those things could be nasty.

((OOC: I approve of using Vision and agree its a bit... vague. I am appying a +1 bonus to Ajava's piloting skill due to the high navigation check by Ariana.

This brings Shebi Ajava's check up to 18, which is enough not to be shot to pieces, but not to avoid damage entirely))

Shebi Ajava meanwhile was far too busy avoiding enemy fire to navigate. It was complete chaos out there, ships were ramming one another, boarding actions took place and everywhere was blaster fire. The planet firing up at everything didn't help either, and ground armies were engaged in shooting up towards the sky as well, making it even harder.

Making it safely through the battle - though Jedi of lesser skill might not have been able to keep onto their lunches. The ship finally took a blow when it had to slow down in the atmosphere, air resistance being a thing. The plan to disable the engines seemed to work, except that starting them up again was less than entirely without isssues...

Seconds before the ground, Ajava finally managed to reactivate the engines, but the landing was rough as the ship crashed through trees and branches, coming to a final halt in the middle of a small pond, almost a meter deep. Smoke came out of the engines which according to a very insistent blinking light was on fire.

"I guess it is time to abandon our dropship. It clearly served its purpose..."

Ariana takes her equipment from the ship and swims it to shore. After her personal equipment she returns to the ship once to take out any tools or additional supplies.

Although she is not planning on taking it all with them she is sure that if she leaves them in the ship they will either burn down with the ship due to the engine fire or will sink away in the mud or to the bottom of the pond where they will be hard to recover.

After recovering her equipment Ariana stretches her wings and shakes off the mud. After that she jumps into the air and flies around for a minute and looks around to get her bearings on where they actually landed. Ariana looks for land marks, villages or cities that could be of use.

"I agree." was all Ajava replied to the suggestion of abandoning the dropship.

Not caring a bit about all the tools and other stuff in the ship, Ajava made sure to grab her own little bundle of stuff before swimming to the shore.

There, she got her bearings on the landscape. She tries to understand the geography of the area they are in, and determine what good places for settlements would be in the natural environment. She reasons that the Remunzians will probably have settled in the best place taking into account not having to clear out trees or change the path rivers take through the landscape.

Once she has an idea of the local area, she waits for Ariana to fill her in with her observations before determining the best way to head to find some form of civilisation.

Ariana flew around to get a sense of their position. The pond was part of a forest, it seemed at first, but Ariana soon came to the same conclusion that Ajava did on the ground. It wasn't a forest. Many of the trees here were fruit-bearing and edible plants were everywhere. They weren't set up neatly in rows for easy harvesting, but instead were set up in a much more natural pattern, but it was certainly no coincident that every plant here was either edible or otherwise usable: this was a Remunzian farm of some sort.

They soon located a house which was neatly constructed out of wood, but which appeared to have been abandoned recently, a door left open, somewhat of a mess inside and everything portable having been taken along - possibly the people living there had fled due to the war. The house did form a reasonable base of operations for the moment though, and it had a map of the local area.

The map indicated they were near 'Oakville', which despite the name was actually one of the largest Remunzian cities, and provided several routes towards it, a main route which would undoubtedly be guarded, as well as several less well travelled paths, which would take longer but which probably would have fewer patrols.

As they worked, a Tooka snuck up on the Jedi. Snuck up being relative, the Jedi were quite well aware of their surroundings and thus spotted the Tooka easily. This Tooka interestingly enough had a collar, and the collar included a tracker. No doubt the creatures owner liked keeping up on its pet, but this also meant a skilled slicer might be able to reverse the polarity of the tracker to find the person tracking the pet.

"We could use some information from a local source.", Ajava says as she eyes the Tooka. "I doubt the Tooka can track it's keeper, otherwise it would have followed them along already. Can you do something with it's tracker?", she asks Ariana.

If Ariana works on the tracker, Ajava will take a moment to memorize the main features of the map. She does not intend to learn the map by heart, but knowing the general layout of Oakville, where the main traffic arteries are, and where signifcant buildings and other large landmarks are will hopefully help navigate the city later on.

She also makes a quick judgment of where the Slave Rebellion would place military checkpoints, supplies, and what areas would probably be used for encampments — she expects the local Remunzians to be less than useful with regards to describing the military situation, so having at least a rough guess of the situation would help her place information from the locals on in context.

((Check: 16 = 10 Force Level + 4 Reason + 2 Military Command -- Make an educated guess of the most likely military situation in the City, so she has some frame of reference when she talks to the locals.))

((OOC: Critical success!))

Ajava made an analysis of the military situation. The planet was occupied and defending itself against liberation, so it'd follow the natural logic of military defence. Scanning the map, she found several chokepoints which almost certainly had Slave Rebellion troops posted. With her excessive skill in the field, she additionally figured out that an open area in the city was likely to have become either an army camp or a prison camp for the local population. It was just too useful to pass up.

If they wanted to get in touch with local Remunzians, their best chance was to either use the Tooka's tracker or to find their way into the city and get in touch with what remained of the population there. That place was also where they'd most likely be able to find supplies. Mercifully, the Remunzian cities were planned with a lot of plants, so it was highly likely someone had managed to escape capture and some supplies had evaded detection.

If they wanted to get intel on the invaders, perhaps capturing a patrol was smart - they'd have to do it without them radioing in for help though. Maybe ambushing a patron along one of the less used roads would work? Alternatively, they could visit one of the chokepoints and get information there - it'd be harder, but better intel was likely to be available there.

If they wanted to sabotage the enemy defence efforts, they'd need to find some support from the locals - even as Jedi Masters, fighting a war without support was beyond them.

"I agree that we need intel. I will see what I can do with the tracker on this little guy."

Ariana padded the Tooka on its head and carefully took of its collar. She took her equipment out of her backpack and hooked the tracker up with her device. She started with reading the recent history of the device. Maybe the Tooka was being fed somewhere or had a home. If that did not give a specific location she still had an alternative method. Ariana connected analyzed the tracker and determined the distance it could ping. Using that information she connected to the local network track the location where the tracker was read from.

After analyzing the situation, Ajava comes to the conclusion that making contact with the locals and getting their support would be a good first step. Then, while the locals were informing others through literal or figurative underground communications the Jedi could acquire additional intelligence.

"Good. I suggest we contact the locals first, and get more intel after."

Ariana worked on the tracker and with her exceptional elite slicing powers, which were unrivalled in the world, cracked the device which was protected about as well as one would expect of a device intended to keep track of pets.

Within minutes, she determined where the Tooka had been, and tracked it to its home, as well as the various places it went to feed - apparently the neighbours also fed the creature.

Moreover, she determined that the owner tracked several additional pets, and that this owner was currently in a nearby patch of denser forest. It wasn't far and likely the heroes would be able to find other Remunzians there!

((OOC: If nobody objects, I want to skip ahead to where you find the Remunzian owner. If you do object, we can rewind))

The Tooka followed the heroes as they moved out to where the tracker indicated they could find the Remunzians. It was a short walk, through woodland that seemed to get denser, making it harder for military units going through here to keep formation.

As the branches covering the animal path started to come to a point where they could not go further without using their lightsabers as machetti's, the Jedi found a dismal scene. Deep in the woods here, a camp had been set up, and at least a hundred Remunzians were hiding here, many of them families who had fled their homes, including children and elderly. There were at least a dozen wounded, and the camp seemed to have very little in the way of supplies.

What it lacked in supplies though, it made up in pets, and there was even a collection of aquariums which the refugees had evacuated in lue of medical supplies and food. Ariana's elite skill quickly identified a young woman, who was no doubt the owner of the Tooka - the creature meowed and moved over to her, rubbing its head against her leg.

"Welcome ba..." at that point, the woman realized that the Jedi had arrived

Ariana looked towards Shebi Ajava and said through their telepathic bond: "I will check on the wounded and their supplies."

Ariana put her suitcase and emergency pack on the ground and looked around analyzing the wounded. Ariana's training immediately kicked in. She made mental notes on the severity of the wounded and the ones that required immediate attention. While she looked around she also made a global inventory on the supplies of the camp.

"Good plan. I'll find whoever is in charge and see if they can help us with intel or contacts."

"Hello", Ajava starts, "I am jedi master Shebi Ajava.", she made sure that the young woman saw the lightsabers hanging from her belt.

"Could you bring me to the people that are in charge here?"

Ajava knows that the Silver Forests of Remunzia are a gerontocracy, but she did not want to assume who would be the leader. It wouldn't surprise her if the elders are happy to let younger people take charge in situations like these.
