[ Jedi Temple ] Walking in the Gardens
Upon her arrival on Unity Denari headed to the Jedi Temple, slightly disoriented by the beautiful night sky, despite it being sometime in the middle of the morning. To avoid confusion, her being a new face on Unity, she was wearing her formal Jedi robes.
She had a few hours before she needed to report for training, so, after taking a look at the room she had been assigned, she decided visit the gardens she had heard so much about.
As she entered the gardens, still carrying her backpack, she was startled by the amount of light. She knew from descriptions that the gardens were lit artificially, but still, the big difference between how dark it was outside just a few minutes ago and how light it was in here confused her senses a little. After a moment she managed to collect herself, realising she might be blocking the entrance, and walked further into the gardens. As everything in the garden seemed to be immaculately kept, she decided to take care to use predefined paths, as she was not sure yet if it was ok to step on the grass.

"Shouldn't you drop that backpack into your room?" A metallic voice said from behind. "I am certain you got one, otherwise, what are you doing here all alone in the gardens, I've never seen you around?" If Denari turned around she saw a combat droid, behind that there was a young human male inside a hoverchair, seemingly busy with a screen. Jaicen was up somewhat early this morning, since he had been assigned to decipher encrypted information from the slave rebellion, from before the war. He had failed several times and was on his way to the library to possibly find some hints.
Denari turned around to greet whomever just spoke to her. Not entirely sure what to make of the pair, she made a formal bow and then directed her attention to the droid, as the voice that just talked to her probably originated from it.
"Good morning, I just arrived to continue my training here, so it is very likely you haven't seen me around before. I considered putting my bag in the room, but it felt a little.. erhm... weird, I guess? I used to carry about this much around all day, so I'll be fine keeping it with me for a few more hours" she stated with a big smile. "Anyhow, I'm Padawan Denari Merelle. Who are you?"

Another droid, an astromech, arrived at high speed and loudly beeping in binary to the guy in the hoverchair. It was almost as if he didn't like being left behind. However It went quiet quickly after the guy pressed a button on his screen.
The droid which spoke to Denari had two red eyes on his head and one on his stomach, it was clearly custom-made and wearing a lightsaber hilt on his hip.

"Ah, another Theelin padawan, where did you train then?" said the droid with the two red eyes. It was pretty hard to see emotion in the metallic voice if you are not used talking to the droid. "I am Padawan Jaicen Hedoss, under tutelage by Knight Fecta Trigiel." The person in the hoverchair lifted a few fingers as a greeting. "I can't talk very well, so TG-100 does it for me." The Droid explained. "So, the first meeting in a few hours with a master, anxious?"

"The past 5 years I've trained with the Jedi on Bisidn", came Denari's reply, slightly delayed as she was more than slightly distracted by the panicking astromech.
Upon Jaichen's explanation an obvious expression of understanding crossed her face, as if someone had just given the final clue to a stupidly simple riddle.
"Well, Padawan Jaichen Hedoss, it is a pleasure to meet you. Am I right to assume it would be appropriate for me to look at your face when talking with you, even though your voice comes from there?" she asked, pointing up at TG-100's head. After a reply she quickly continued: "There are masters on Bisidn, so this won't be my first time meeting one, so I can't be anxious about that. If anything, at the moment, I'm feeling curious, so if you don't mind me asking, what does the cute one do" indicating she is talking about the astromech by a nod in its direction "and, more importantly, how fast does that hover chair go? Can it hold multiple people or does it destabilise if someone would try to hitch a ride?"

"A, there, was it a nice place? I guess you will be interested what the Jedi order has to offer here, I can assure you the facilities are way better! For me it also was not long ago that I came back to the temple, I've been training away from the Unity temple too." TG-100 responded and Jaicen smirked at her expression of understanding. "Ow yeah, you can look at my face. It's better then my droids face I think."
"This is my astromech droid." TG-100 replied. "It performs calculations, minor repairs and calculates hyperspace jumps. It is also sometimes my glorified extension chord when I need to interface my hoverchair with a library record. It also contains a lighter if you smoke."
"This hoverchair can go on somewhat rough terrain, and I think it can keep up with a fast running person. Just don't take it onto a jungle planet, that'd be a bad idea. It's not made for two people, but it won't die either. Don't try it please." Jaicen said the last phrase as if he would seriously be disappointed if someone tried.
"Oh, why are rooms weird?"

Denari raised an eyebrow at the remark about the facilities. She thought the facilities on Bisidn were perfectly fine for their purpose and doubted the extravagance of the Unity temple would add anything to that. If anything, it was more likely to provoke feelings of superiority and arrogance. '
Not in the mood to start a pointless argument she decided to let the remark slide, and focus on more interesting matters.
"That astromech sounds usefull. I get one would want to make a cute dedicated droid for such purposes, but, just out of curiosity, since that TG-100 is custom made, did anyone try to add those functionalities to it, so you wouldn't need the extra one?"
She lost interest in the hoverchair at 'keep up with a fast running person' so she couldn't be bothered to tease Jaicen into giving it a try.
"Well, the rooms aren't weird by themselves I guess, but the idea of me having my own room is... I've never needed a room of my own, this" indicating her backpack by pulling it up a little, "is all I have and all I need and want. Any Jedi temple has dedicated facilities for anything a Jedi would want to do, so all I need for long term accommodation is a locker, access to a toilet and washing room and a bed. A whole room is a bit... excessive. On Bisidn I shared a dorm with two other Jedi who thought the same, and up to 5 travellers-Jedi on missions or anyone else who needed a place to stay for a night or two. I have not gotten the chance to ask if such an arrangement is possible here..."
"Wait, what? You tried to go to a jungle with such high tech equipment?"

What Denari did not realize is that Jaicen needs these extravagant facilities to stay alive.
"Extra astromech capabilities would only burden him. Since TG-100 is also my primary method of defense I'd rather not make him kilo's heavier than needed. Furthermore I do not like the aesthetic of fat droids, that is not cute!" TG-100 expressed cute somewhat louder.
"Don't you need a room to meditate by yourself, or be alone after a long day? always having people around all the time can be quite discomforting and irritating, without any time to reflect. Furthermore I suggest you settle in first before making requests. I do need a room for myself, if only for my medical treatment. I do need the bacta-tanks."
"Yup, I went to the Remunzia system, you know the system which is currently occupied by some slaves. There was a jungle planet with a being who wanted to learn us something, TG-100, me, Shebi Ajava and Fecta Trigiel went there to learn, but we were too different from the force being to learn something. Plus, she was kinda vague too and poopy birds pooped on us, which sucked. I'd rather not go there again. You should read the mission report if you are allowed access to the library. There were also irritating beasts which behaved like a swarm." Jaicen expressed a face of disgust when he remembered the poopy birds.
"I did not bring my Astromech nor my Medical droid to the planet, they stayed in the ship safely. What would an astromech do on such a planet anyway, wheels do not work when walking on trees!"
"Talking about the Remunzia system, I need to write a holonet mail when I am at the library. And, what do you have in your bag, already got a lightsaber?"

((OOC: I ment architectural extravagance ;). Denari has no reason to be sceptical about well equipped facilities))
"Ah, if it would make the TG-100 that much heavier I totally get it. I don't know much about droids, so I figured asking couldn't hurt."
"I suppose what one finds discomforting depends on what you're used to. I grew up travelling, so I've always been in the middle of all sorts of liveliness. I've tried resting and meditating in a private room, but somehow it makes me nervous instead of bringing peace of mind. However I can meditate and reflect on myself or my surroundings just fine in a henhouse, busy kitchen, metal workshop or a large meditation chamber, anywhere where others are busy with their own things really. As long as I can find a spot where I'm not in anyone's way. Most people can't do that, so I get why most people prefer to have or, in cases like yours, need a place of their own.
"You are probably right about settling first though. I can always make the request once I've gotten used to how things go over here."
Denari suppressed a snicker when she heard about the pooping birds, she could imagine what it would have looked like, but as it still seemed to hurt Jaicen's pride she tried to keep a straight face. When he finished his comment on what an astromech would do on such a planet she replied: "I have absolutely no idea, and couldn't image that working, but it makes sense now, knowing you left them on the ship. I'll look the report up some other time, as I sometimes loose track of time in libraries."
After he said he had somewhere else to be she decided to quickly answer his last question and ask him one more before letting him be on his way. "What I have in the bag are basically some clothes, a hammock, with a mat and sleeping bag to fit in it and a tarp to cover the combination when rain is expected. Also a small pan and burner. All proper Skulldaran make of course, it would be too heavy and bulky otherwise.
"My light sabers and some other useful things I keep on my belt or in containers strapped to my legs" moving the robe slightly to reveal two curved handles between the folds and tapping on something hard on the sides of her legs, " but the robe covers most so I can't show that right now.
"Before you rush off to the library, will you tell me how you ended up in that hover chair?"

Salia - PC
Suddenly, a Twi'lek girl dressed in white dropped out of a tree and landed on her face smack damn between Jaicen and Denari.
"Gravity still works" Salia noted as she crawled up to her feet, seemingly unhurt. "Also hi! You look like you are new here, but not like new in the sense that you were born yesterday, unless you were born yesterday, because some races grow up really fast, but you look more like some type of pretty human so you probably didn't actually get born yesterday, though sometimes people say that people were born yesterday, but mostly they say that they weren't born yesterday, which makes sense, because most people are probably older than a day unless you are in a nursery, but even there I guess most babies aren't all -that- young, so anyway I'm Salia, do you want to play catch, cause I could get my ball, it's really nice and bouncy and I got it as a reward for a mission because it is really purple, though that's not because of the mission, that's just the way it is and you should accept people the way they are, because they can't help what colour they are, except if they are chameleons, but you don't look like a chameleon to me, so I figure you probably aren't, and also did you know that this is Jaicen, he's nice, and he was on the mission too, so does that mean you are new now?"
she looked expectantly at Denari, as if expecting an answer to her question now.

As the Twi'lek girl got on her feet, Denari thought a potentially very interesting play-mate just arrived on scene. When Salia started talking she knew she would not be disappointed and carefully made a mental list of responses to Salia's rambing to see how the girl would react. As soon as Salia made clear it was Denari's turn she started to work down her own list, leaving as little room for interjections as Salia had.
"Hi to you too, that's a correct observation and no, I wasn't born yesterday. Some do indeed, thank you and correct again, people say a lot of things and most babies are indeed older than a day. Nice to meet you Salia, I'd love to play catch with you, how long will it take you to fetch your ball, which sounds awesome by the way, must have been a awesome mission, I am indeed no cameleon and I know this is Jaicen, I don't know how nice he is yet, but I don't see him going on a mission with you has a causal relation to me being new? I'm Padawan Denari Merelle, I arrived on Unity today."
She looked expectantly back at Salia to see what her reaction would be.

"I have no idea what Skulldaran is...." TG-100 responded to Denari: "... But I got hurt in a lightsaber accident years back when I was in training here in the temple."
Jaicen then smiled when he saw Salia landing face first into the ground. "Hi Salia, I already met with Denari, and she's new from Bisidn." Before being interrupted by the ramblings of both Salia and Denari. TG-100 and Jaicen stood silent listening to both of them.

Salia - PC
Salia ghasped when it turned out Denari was able to not just keep up but talk back at the girls level, inhaling sharply and excitedly
"WelcometoUnityImgoingtogetmyballnowbebacksoon!" she bounced and then turned and ran away, leaving Jaicen and Denari behind once more. She'd no doubt soon return though...
"WelcometoUnityImgoingtogetmyballnowbebacksoon!" she bounced and then turned and ran away, leaving Jaicen and Denari behind once more. She'd no doubt soon return though...
Denari smiled as she watched Salia run off. After a moment she noticed that Jaichen and TG-100 were still there as well, despite saying he had something to do earlier. As he had answered her question before Salia's interruption she had little to continue their previous conversation with.
"Lively isn't she?" She commented on Salia's behaviour instead. "Does she do that often? The falling out of the tree part?"
"Lively isn't she?" She commented on Salia's behaviour instead. "Does she do that often? The falling out of the tree part?"
Jaicen was still there since he liked seeing the two people talk very quickly. He smiled as Salia ran away to get her ball and TG-100 responded: "Well, she jumps around, falls down, and is the most active youngling here. She still has to learn a lot in behavior, but I guess we all still have, I wouldn't be surprised if she popped up during a master's meeting from one of the air ducts."
"I suppose you were as active as her as a kid, seeing you can relate that wel" TG-100 says a bit mockingly, but it's clear Jaicen intended it as a joke.

Denari giggled at the idea of Salia dropping out of an air duct in the middle of an assembly of Masters.
TG-100's mocking tone was not exactly appreciated however, perhaps this was because of the arrogant vibe she got from Jaicen earlier or simply due to Denari's inability to grasp jokes.
"I suppose we all still have to learn a lot about behaviour indeed", she smiled at Jaicen. "As a child I was a different kind of active though, less talking and more helping. There was enough to do and not all environments allowed frivolity, so my family started grinding off some rough edges quite early out of necessity. It helped that is was in everyone's best interest anyw..." *pling*
Denari was interrupted by a message notification on her communicator. "Oeh, sorry, gotta check this" she said apologetically as she eagerly took the communicator out of her robes. It was obvious she had been waiting for an important message.
Due to transport and wildlife protection regulations Denari's animal companion had to be cleared by relevant authorities- in this case the gamekeeper- before being returned to Denari's care.
Jaicen could see Denari relax as she read the message.
Denari typed a very short message back, which looked a little awkward as the communicator was not optimized for Denari's claw-like fingers.
When putting her communicator away she looked at Jaicen to resume their conversation.
"I had to finish some very important business real quick. What were we talking about again? Oh right! So what were you like as a child?"

Darones Rei - PC
Seeing Jaicen in the Garden with someone he hadn't met before, and Salia rushing by in a hurry, propted Darones to interrupt his moment of reflection by the fountain and he walked over to meet the new arrival.
"Hello," He started as he introduced himself, "I see you've met Jaicen already. I'm Darones, welcome to the Jedi Temple."
"Hello," He started as he introduced himself, "I see you've met Jaicen already. I'm Darones, welcome to the Jedi Temple."
"Hello Darones, nice to meet you" Denari replied to Darones, as she shifted position to let Darones join the conversation. "I'm Padawan Denari Merelle, you may call me Denari."
"Do you two know each other well?" she asked both men, "or is it local custom to call everyone by only their given or family name?"

Darones Rei - PC
"It surely is a pleasure," Darones stated in reply of Denari's welcoming words.
"Well... " He then continued to answer her question, " I wouldn't go as far as stating that I would know him that well, but we've been on a few missions before. Besides, most of us spend training time together. So it just feels better, at least for me, to be little less formal with the people you live and train."

"Hmmm, I see", Denari looked pensive for a moment, then smiled and looked at Jaicen and then Darones again.
Circling back to the original conversation she continued: "Anyway, we've been getting to know each other a bit. We were just talking about what we were like as children. I only joined the Jedi there 5 years ago. Before that I travelled with my family, helping out a lot. What about you?" She looked at Darones, hoping she had not overstepped any boundaries by asking...

"Hmm, I was picked up at a very young age, like most Jedi. And trained since I was young. I was actually pretty into computers and droids, just like now. In that case I didn't change." TG-100 then looked at Darones Rei for a response.
Before Darones could reply, Denari's eyes went wide with a mix of fear and surprise before the conversation was rudely interrupted by a dark grey bird zoofing by Danones's head-missing him by mere my centimetres. It landed rather unsubtly on Denari's left shoulder under wild flapping and shrieking.
As it proceeded to claw and pick at her multi-colored braid, still flapping wildly, Denari made some attempt to shield herself from most of the damage and push the bird away. "Aaah, I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I told tou there was no other way! You didn't want to stay behind either, so enough already!". The keen observer could however notice that this protest was more to play along than a serious attempt to save her skin and hairdo.
When the bird seemed satisfied with the damage it had done, it flew off, did some acrobatic manoeuvres, circled back and landed on Denari's left shoulder softly. It started grooming it's plumage as if nothing had happened. However it seemed putting claws and wings just a bit more in the way of Denari's attempts to redo her braid than it could have done.
As Denari started to untangle what was left of her braid, seemingly without noticing the -possibly intentional- obstructions, she introduced the newcomer:
"Sorry about that" she smiled, "This is my friend Spades, she's a bat-falcon and was a little upset about having been put in a cage for transport. She'd never been of the planet before and apparently regulations for first timers are strict. She's in the system now, so it shouldn't be necessary ever again." The last part was directed more at Spades than anyone else though.
Now that Spades was grooming herself calmly, Jaicen and Darones could see that she was a 30ish centimetres long predatory bird with mostly dark grey feathers. The feathers covering her thighs and lower belly were orange-brown. The only bright colour was a warm yellow covering her claws and lining her dark brown eyes and dark grey beak. This in stark contrast to Denari's own colourful appearance.
((OOC: I considered ending this thread here and move to introduction training mission, but it may be nice to keep the topic open a little longer. For instance if people still want to chat some more or if Salia comes back with that ball ;)))
Salia - PC
Suddenly from out of nowhere, a purple object bounced off a tree, then over the ground and towards Denari, followed by a soundwave that resembled the word "Catch!"
As she was relatively used to 'random projectiles' heading in her direction-mostly due to Spades' antics, Denari managed to catch the ball just before it hit her.
Fascinated and, as it happened, easily distracted today, she inspected the purple object for a moment. She then dropped it to let it bounce gently and finally looked around to find where that soundwave just came from.

Darones Rei - PC
"Your friend seems to have some strong opinions about certain events," Darones stated in response of Spades' expressions of displeasure about his treatment in quarantine. He then continued to answer Denari's earlier question,
"I was born in a rural area on Glasslyn, the Sundarian Homeworld, as a member of one of the smaller nomadic tribes of which there are several that live on the wide steppes and plains. I've learned most of what I knew then by experience and through teachings of the tribal elders. I didn't visit larger cities much, there was hardly ever need to as the steppe and plains could provide most anything we needed. Until one day I met a person, whom I later learned was a Jedi... "
