"You asked to check the lava" she responded, slightly offended as she felt Jaicen was insinuating she had been wasting time. "I've also been looking for a way to get across together."

"Anyhow, elevator works, but aren't you curious to see if your bot needs modifications to tackle these kinds of obstacles on actual missions?"

If Jaicen wasn't, she would shrug her shoulders, motion Spades to stay in the room and then follow Jaicen out of the room at a brisk pace, with a neutral expression on her face.

"That I did. I wasn't sure my option would exist." Jaicen said in respons to Denari, trying to disarm her irritability. "I am interested, but I already know the limitations of my droid, I explored them thoroughly on the jungle planet. Let's try the elevator way first, and if that fails let's just jump." And Jaicen went outside with all his droids, taking the elevator to master screetor.

Denari follows Jaicen and his droids to take the elevator as she was quite sure she could ask Quartermaster Nishra to schedule time to practice in this training room some other time.

Jaicen led the way to the elevator, which was half full with huge barrels. This being a freight elevator, it still left enough room for the two of them (plus TG-100), so with a press of the button, it swooshed them up to the right floor.

From there, they easily found their way back to the training room, a door opening onto the platform above. Up here, they could see the 'lava' below, and the pillars standing up from it, a challenge they had easily circumvented.

However, something strange was going on. Jedi Master Screetor wasn't waiting for them, but instead, a card-board cut-out of the Jedi Master had been was set up, complete with a backlit lightsaber - some sort of movie prop perhaps? There was something fishy about this entire situation

The fact that Master Screetor was half-fish made the situation very fishy indeed. Jaicen looked at the lightsaber and wondered why Master Screetor pulled out his lightsaber. Was he already holding out his lightsaber when they left the room?

"Well, this is certainly not a Jedi Master." Jaicen said to Denari. "Let's see and investigate what this cardboard means."

TG-100 picked up the fake lightsaber and started to investigate the card-board for any signs, clues or hidden technological devices. Meanwhile Jaicen tried to sense the force to detect whether there was any force resonance with the cardboard.

Upon seeing the card-board cut-out Denari raised an eyebrow and thought to herself: 'And so our training continues'.

Seeing Jaicen started to study the props in detail, Denari settled for a quick scan of the card-board figure. Perhaps the name of the artist or some post-it with a message was on there? Meanwhile, she asked Jaicen: "I heard there is a chanting group in the temple. Do you know if there is a theatre or advertisement group, that uses this kind of stuff, as well?"

After her scan she moved to the edge of the platform. She looked at the spot where she dropped the weight to see if it was still there. She then called out to Spades: "Spades? Do you see where -" a pause, in which she moved her hands around her head to indicate the shape of Master Screetor's head, eyes and things around his mouth "- went?"

Of course, if the weight is there and Spades is not, she will be slightly alarmed and whistle between her teeth to call her again. She will also look around for feathers, scratches and other things that could indicate where Spades went.

((OOC: @ Mercury: Feel free to roleplay Spades' reaction in your next post if you can use that in your story))

((OOC: Edit: I saw somehow did Befriend Animal with the Vision Attribute initially, which makes no sense, so I changed it to Energy. I'm not sure if that is the right attribute though...))

Jaicen and Denari examined the cardboard cutout - besides the lighting for the lightsaber, it did not seem to contain anything force-related, nor was there anything more advanced than a couple of lights to emulate the glow of a lightsaber.

The cutout wasn't marked, and from the way it had been cut out, it appeared as if someone had used a jig saw to manually cut it out once it had been printed on the cardboard. The wiring for the lights likewise was soldered by hand, so it wasn't a mass-produced prop.

The weight that had been dropped down in the 'lava' was still there, but Spades appeared to not be around, though no cardboard replacements of the bird had been left. This was worrysome!

After a moment, the whistle seemed to have the desired effect, and the bird flapped its wings at a side door to draw attention to where it was - Spades had been in the hallway by the side door for some reason.

Coming closer, the heroes noticed there were some strange tracks in the hall past the side door, which spades seemed to be pointing to. They were two parallel lines, several inches wide, travelling in a straight line to the end of the hall, running into the wall, then scrambling everywhere and then travelling in a straight line again down another hallway.

The tracks were greasy, which made even less sense. This whole thing was starting to get suspicious.

A small sigh of relief escaped Denari as she spotted Spades.

After seeing the track went down another hall she said to Jaicen: "Unless you did find clues on that cardboard, I suggest we follow this greasy trail, see where it went or came from."

If Jaicen agrees to follow the trail, she takes the lead and starts following the trail cautiously, but with focus and at a rapid pace, like she would when trying to catch up with prey while hunting.

"It's a mystery!." TG-100 said. "But no, there are no clues or markings on the cardboard, this lightsaberlighting looks nice, I will take it with me to hang it on my chamberwall!" And with that TG-100 grabbed the lightning rod with the soldering and gave it to the Astromech Droid so it'd still work.

"Yeah, I guess you are better at following trails, so I will follow you, I will try to keep track of where we are actually going in the jedi temple with my map. This spades is more intelligent than I initially thought, nice animal!" And with that Jaicen followed Denari.

((OOC: Jaicen will suck at tracking, so unless the trail is super obvious during the whole way Jaicen will not actively try.))

As they followed the trail, the heroes suddenly noticed a strange figure walking along the hallways.

Image

Clearly this figure didn't belong here - perhaps it was a burglar of some sort, or a person walking his dog who had gotten very, very lost, or perhaps it was some sort of evildoer here to steal the secrets of the Jedi.

Whatever his plans, he had a pet with him, and Spades didn't seem to like said pet one bit!

((OOC: You have not been seen yet. You now have the option to hide and follow the figure, or introduce yourself, or attack, as you feel is best))

Denari noticed that Spades tensed up on her shoulder, as if getting ready to attack something. Following Spades gaze, she noticed the strange figure and his pet. For now prioritizing this figure over the greasy trail, she slowed down and stroked Spades over the head to tell her to not attack.

She motioned Jaicen to be quiet and follow her to a shady spot near a pillar, from where they could observe the figure.

If he follows her to the spot she asks with a wispering voice: "How stealthly can you be? I want to follow that guy" pointing towards the shady figure " for a while, to see what he's up to. Can you come with me without getting noticed?"

TG-100 instinctively reached for his lightsaber, not yet activating it but more as if making sure it was still there as he saw the creature. Jaicen followed Denari towards the quite spot wispering: "I am not the quiet guy, there is no way I can sneak, I am a few hundred kilo's of metal now... can't we just... you know, ask what he is doing here: it's pretty hard to come here with a pet without getting noticed and you should not judge people on their appearance."

"Hmmm, Ok" Denari responded to Jaicen's answer to the stealth question.

She looked pensive for a moment while some thoughts shot through her head: 'He probably can't follow me on a distance either, if I try to hide. The guy might also just be lost of dressed-up as part of a play' -something about a theatre group had just not left her mind- 'But then again, Spades usually doesn't react like this to any arbitrary aggressive looking pet...'

Upon looking the pet over again, she noticed some -possibly oily- substance dripping from it's tusks. It could very well be the origin of the track they were following.

"I guess you are right." Denari whispered to Jaicen. "It is probably best if you just walk by as if you are going about your own business, see how he reacts and then ask what he is doing here. Just to be sure, I'll hide from him a little longer."

If Jaicen doesn't object, she checks if her lightsabers and knife are still there and if her hood properly covers her hair. She then sneaks away to the next shady spot from where she can observe the figure and it's pet.
((Check: 11 = 4 Force Level + 5 Vision + 2 Stealth -- follow the figure from the shadows))
Spades smoothly flies in another direction for a while via a shady edge between the wall and the platform, that separates the full height hallway. If one wasn't paying attention already, it would have been very hard to spot the hunter taking off.

((OOC: I am assuming the hallway looks similar to the hallway in the image Mercury posted before))

TG-100 nodded in conformation and he walked to the guy and its pet while Denari lay in hiding. Instead of just walking by TG-100 addressed the weird person and its pet from a somewhat safe distance:
"Hey man, you look kind of out of place here, can I help you with anything? By the way, your animal friend is dripping saliva on the floor."

Denari and Spades kept hidden at a short distance as Jaicen's failed attempt at stealth was cleverly disguised as an approach.

"Jedi..." the man looked towards Jaicen, but then decided that the middle of the Jedi Temple probably wasn't the right place for a confrontation.

"I am Thr'mshk" - the sound he made was somewhat more crude than could be expressed in letters, as if he was growling and swallowing said growl in one go "but you may call me Thomas - its easier to pronounce for humans."

he looked at Jaicen a moment

"I am hunting, please vacate the area. I don't want to 'accidentally' shoot you." the way he said 'accidentally' almost made as if he'd accidentally shoot Jaicen on purpose. The creature he was with looked menacingly in the direction where Denari was hiding, as if smelling prey in that direction, though Thomas was momentarily distracted by Jaicen and didn't notice.

'Hunting what exactly?' Denari thought sarcastically.

Not being able to do much about pet-creature, she tucks a little further into her hiding spot for the time being, and waits until she can either follow Thr'mshk at a longer distance, or support Jaicen in apprehending him.

Spades was however not so content with increasing the distance between her and the team, now that Nasty had taken an unhealthy interest in her friend. She swings around and heads back towards the team, going from one sitting spot to another, as if she was just any other bird, in a big old building, gathering food-as far as she was concerned anyways.

She was however ready to fly a little-or a lot- closer past Nasty, should it decide to get any closer to Denari. If that would not distract it, than there was little else she could do.

((OOC: Edit: Clarified wording on Denari's intentions))

TG-100 replied trying to be friendly: "Thomas - Dude, nice to meat you man. Both of you are in the Jedi temple, if you accidentally shoot someone you'd be in a lot of trouble. And since you are in the Jedi temple, I am the one who is supposed to be giving orders to vacate area's, A well, do you have any proof that you are allowed to be here? I'd like to see a datapad with written orders. While you search, one moment."

Jaicen then stepped 1 meter back and contacted the front desk secretary fo the Jedi temple with:
"Jaicen Hedoss here, there is a suspicious person who calls himself Thrremks or Thomas here, walking with a vile looking pet and claiming to be a hunter for something. Is there any record that he is allowed here?"

"UCZG, I can go wherever I want" the hunter pushed a datapad into DenariJaicen's face which indeed mentioned 'UCZG', right under the logo of the Union City Zoological Garden, which indicated that he was allowed to "go and do what is needed" to capture some animal which had escaped. It seemed weird, did the local zoo really have the right to send agents into the Jedi Temple?

"Oh, the hunter? Yes, we have been getting calls about him since yesterday."

The droid on the other end of the line answered

"He is here on orders of the city, tracking an escaped animal of some sort. Apparently its very valuable. I believe Master Screetor agreed to let him hunt for the creature here in exchange for some promotional materials, though I am not supposed to say anything about that."

As Jaicen and the droid exchanged information, the pet gave a look towards Spades, but a quick tug from the Hunter brought it back in line. Luckily, with Jaicen as a distraction, the Hunter was not interested in the sniffings of his pet, presumably since it'd go off much more clearly if the creature they were actually tracking was found.

"There, that settles it?" the Hunter asked, or more accurately: told Jaicen "Now let me get back to hunting and you can do whatever it is you do."

Neither knowing what UCZG stands for, nor being able to see the document, from where she's at, or overhear who Jaicen is calling, Denari is still no wiser. Starting to get annoyed by not knowing what's going on, she decides to contact Jaicen.

Feeling secure in her hiding spot, she concentrates for a moment to focus on him and asks:
What's UCZG? And why would that settle it? Who did you call?

Jaicen seemed unsure a moment what to do once he was contacted telepathically.

"I am going to continue my hunt." the hunter explained "Why don't you get back to whatever it was you were doing and try not to bother any other people who are here on legitimate business.

And clean up those greasy tracks, they keep throwing my hound off the scent!"

With that, the hunter moved to walk away.

((OOC: Damn, totally forgot))

Jaicen said: "Have a good day mister Thomas, good luck with the hunt. Plus, see the greasy tracks as a challenge, I am not a cleaning droid."

When the hunter walked away and was just out of hearing range, Jaicen walked to Denari and said: "I called security to verify his story, apparently security got calls from him all day, and he got the right to be here on the orders of Master Screetor to hunt for some rare animal."

"Do you think we should follow that guy, since he is still a weirdo with a weird story?" Jaicen asked Denari.

'Greasy tracks aren't his?' Denari thought when the hunter complained about the tracks.

A little surprised Jaicen just let him walk off, she waited for him to fill her in.

"Oh, I see. I think..." Denari responded somewhat confused to Jaicen, while she kept an eye on Thomas from where she was.
"I'm all for following him, but as you said, you're not very stealthy and he seems to be somewhat agitated by you already. Following him indiscreetly will not help not escalating the situation and there's still the cardboard with the tracks and if he is legit we should prioritise that..."

She stopped thinking out 'loud' for a moment.

"You recon the tracks will be cleaned up any time soon? If not, you can offer him your help in the hunt, as you know the temple. Then no one else will be interfering with his hunt, as he is not roaming around unsupervised. I can keep following for a while for backup first, help the hunt later, if he seems alright.

"Unless of course you are fine with splitting up, then I'll go see where the track goes real quick and find you with Spade's help and the saliva track later."

Denari was curious about both the origin of the track and the hunter and his prey. She was not quite yet ready to give up seeing through one or the other.
