((OOC: This topic is private between Ariana Danacia and Denari Merelle))

After the masters had assigned Denari as Ariana's Padawan learner, the two had agreed to meet early in the morning the next day, near the pond with the big fountain in the Jedi Gardens.

It was about half an hour after the garden dome's windowpanes closed and the lamps turned on to simulate sunrise.

Denari was sitting on one of the pillars closest to the edge of the pond, facing the centre, hands on her knees and legs crossed around the ornament decorating the top of the pillar. She was covered with small, glittering dew drops, that had formed as the gardens warmed up under the lamps.

From the distribution of the drops, someone who bothered to think about it could conclude she must have been sitting there since some time before the simulated daybreak. And she must have been sitting very still...

Ariana entered the gardens through the front entrance. She moved towards the pond. When she approached she spotted Denari on one of the pillars. Ariana walked towards her and halted in front of the pillar.

"Good morning Padawan. You seem to be up bright and early. I did not know Theelin liked to rest on top of pillars, I believe this is more like a Daryan thing to do. You did sleep tonight right?"

Ariana paused for a moment.

"Are you ready?"

Upon hearing Ariana's greeting, Denari got up and twirled around in one fluid motion and jumped down to land next to Ariana.

"Good morning to you too Knight" replied enthusiastically, followed by a short bow. "I didn't know Theelins liked to rest on pillars either, in itself it seems a rather curious place for it. I just wanted to sit there as was curious to the view over the pond from up there. It certainly is worth the time, the way it is and changes through night, dawn and day is quite fascinating."

"I slept. You too?" she asked, a little confused why Ariana asked. Then after a short moment it dawned to her that Ariana might have wondered how long she had been there, so she added: "I usually wake up about an hour before dawn, so didn't miss any sleep because of this or anything else."

After Ariana asked if she was ready, Denari's mood subtly changed from very awake and enthusiastic to very awake an a little uncomfortable.
"There is that one thing I'd like to ask before we get started... Most Padawan learners address their knights as 'Master', but I personally think 'Teacher' or 'Mentor' indicates the nature of the relationship much better. Do you have any objections to me using one of those instead of 'Master' to address you?"

Ariana listened to her response and waited a moment before she started talking again.

"I think I understand what you mean, I guess Master has an association with slavery. I guess it might be a little harsh title, personally I reserve this word for only the actual Masters on the Jedi Council.

However I am not much one of titles myself. This might even be a thing for Praetorians in general.

How about we just call each other by our names. I think that is much more personal anyway. You can simply call me Ariana and I will address you as Denari if you don't mind.

How is your training progressing? What have you learned recently?"

"Calling each other by our names is most preferable in my opinion, Ariana" Denari smiled.

"Recently I've mainly spent time meditating, working on my fighting styles and getting to know people here. From that I've learned that I might be interested in learning to teach and that I want to improve my medical skills.

"Growing up as a nomad I've been learned plenty practical things, so I know medicinal and poisonous plants, but have no idea why they work, how to improve efficiency or what to watch out for. Also, I can fix an injury well enough to get someone down from a mountain or out of a forest to a doctor, but not without minimising the risk of complications. Unfortunately, I have also learned that there is a lot of information in the library and I have no clue where to start without getting lost...

"I also learned very recently that you started medic training on Praeto, so perhaps you can advise me on that?" she finished with a naughty smile.

"Did you now. " Ariana grinned.

"Yes I have had my medic training in the Praetorian Army. This was a lot more than just first aid, I got a decent knowledge of medicines and even got some surgical skills. I could help you with extending your knowledge on these subjects. Maybe we should even visit the local hospital to put your skills to the test after you have studied. In my more recent years I combined with medical knowledge and knowledge of the force to become even better at healing people.

I would also like to do some combat training with you to know what I can expect when we are together on a mission."

Denari was pleasantly surprised at Ariana's suggestion of visiting the local hospital. The possibility had not crossed her mind yet, but she really liked the idea.

"Your help would be most welcome." She replied. "Visiting the local hospital after I've studied will be very useful as well. I tend to recall things I've learned easier when I've had some practical training. Somehow it also helps me understand things and connections better."

"I agree we should practice combat as well, though I have to add, I'm not extremely... combat focused?" It appeared she had trouble finding the correct word.
She opted to elaborate instead: "I take my combat training very seriously, because I want to know what I'm doing. I won't kill someone just because it is more convenient than incapacitating them and I don't want to be forced by circumstance or my lack of skill."

Half a moment later, before Ariana had a chance to respond, the statement was followed by a question out of genuine interest: "What are your thoughts on lethal force in combat?"
