((OOC: For my convenience, please post your full totals, including all bonuses.
Btw, everyone is doing generally good role-play, but I'm not giving out role-play bonuses this time as quality is pretty good across the board and nobody really sticks out - it makes little sense to boost everyone equally as the end result would be zero effect.))
Shaedys and Nalan
Shaedys took immediate advantage of the opening Nalan had allowed to fall last round and her snap back to reality was not enough to keep up her defences against the aggressive Ataru assault. Beating Nalan on all three rings allowed him to get in with the short lightsaber while the attack seemed to come from the slashing normal saber.
A solid blow to Nalan left a nasty burn on her right side where the left blade had touched her. Suddenly the lights in the arena turned on full as the jury announced.
"Saber contact was made. We have a winner!"
((OOC: Nalan does not yet get any bonus from her terrain action - this only start to apply from next turn onwards - in this case, too late - Shaedys wins this battle!))
Ajava and T'Sal
As well as it had gone so far, Shebi Ajava's attack gained her significant advantage over T'sal this round, and with a Sun Djem special manoeuvre, she damaged T'sals lightsaber, causing it to malfunction and be unusable for the remainder of the battle!
((OOC: T'sal gains a +1 on all attack rings next round))
Ariana and Nebesnogo
Ariana had to put all her effort into defence just to be able to defend herself against Nebesnogo's fierce assault, being unable to touch the small figure herself.
Nathan and Trigiel
Nathan and Trigiel remained locked in their conflict, with both gaining some advantage, but neither enough to harm the other.
((OOC: Trigiel will gain +1 to all defensive rings from next turn onward.))

Shebi Ajava - PC
Having successfully disabled T'Sal's lightsaber, Shebi Ajava decided to press her advantage.
Taking a running start toward the statue nearest T'Sal she uses the force to accelerate just before arriving at the statue. Empowered by the force, she runs up the statue and, using it as a springboard, she suddenly boosts towards T'Sal's platform. ((Check: 12 = 6 Force Level + 4 Fitness + 1 Acrobatics+ 1 Force Speed -- ))
With a flip, Shebi Ajava lands on the same platform as T'Sal, making the platform a very cosy two-person arrangement. Being a full-grown adult, Ajava uses her overbearing height and opens up with a quick cut aimed squarely at T'Sal's chest.
"Surrender?", she softly said to T'Sal while preparing to block any incoming kicks or punches with her lightsaber.

T'Sal - PC
T’sal had taken higher ground to attack miss Shebi, but without a working ligthsaber that would not be possible. Instead of attacking T’sal uses the height to stay out of miss Shebi’s range. If she could not reach her, T’sal is save.
As there is no chance to get a point from miss Shebi, the only thing left is to prevent her from getting points from T'sal. Lucky, T’sal is a martial artist and changes to the suus mahna style. She is still capable of defending herself. She tries to use the broken sword now as a small shield.
When T’sal sees miss Shebi running towards the statues, she pays close attention. It seems that miss Shebi wants to get onto the platform. T’sal starts calculating, this is nothing more than simple mechanics; just applying newtons laws with adding a force boost. With this T’sal can determined miss Shebi’s landing spot. Action=-reaction so while miss Shebi lands on the platform, T’sal uses her telekinesis to increase the impact and break the pillar of the platform. The platform now works as leverage and as T’sal stands on the opposite side the momentum is transferred, she launches herself towards the statue on the opposite. T’sal is putting a lot of effort into creating distance and cover between her and miss Shebi.
((Check: 10 = 5 Force Level + 4 Energy + 1 Telekinesis -- To increase the impact and break the pillar of the platform.))
While flying in the air, T'sal looks to miss Shebi.

Seeing that his attack was not enough to over come Arianas defenses Nebesnogo quickly changed plans When one of his overhead strikes was blocked by Ariana he used Arianas lightsaber a springboard to launch himself skywards.
Quickly flying past the tops of the statues diving around the few that still stood with there swords out Nebesnogo swiftly arrived somewhere in the rafters. ((Check: 8 = 4 Force Level + 3 Fitness + 1 Force Speed -- ))
Using his higher position as a good look out point. When Ariana leaves an opening he could now dive down right on top of her and hopefully even dive and arrive in a position where Ariana would be hard pressed to defend against him.

Immediately after Nebesnogo used her lightsaber to jump skywards Ariana felt the kickback. In a reflex she released the handle of the lightsaber that Nebesnogo jumped on. The Lightsaber immediatly turned off and bounced a few times before it ended up on the floor beneath the table.
Directly after releasing the lightsaber she jumped into the air. Spreading her wings and flying after Nebesnogo at maximum speed. Due to her larger wingspan, and the risk she took with the speed at which she engaged Nebesnogo, she was capable of catching up with him in a matter of seconds.
Nebesnogo noticed that Ariana only had one lightsaber that she was pointing straight at him. While Ariana almost collided with Nebesnogo at high speed she tried to make a quick cut into Nebesnogo's leg and tried to pierce her blade into his belly. The fast arrival of Ariana gave Nebesnogo the chance to lash out at her arrival.
After exchanging a few hits during the collision Ariana gradually slowed down ending up a couple of meters from Nebesnogo.

((OOC: I assume Nathan is approaching Trigiel somehow, otherwise there would be no fight))
Now in a good defensive position, Trigiel shifted back to a more aggressive approach. As he was standing between the legs of the statue, Nathan had only one sane approach vector. Trigiel deflected the attacks from Nathan by keeping his lightsiber between both of them. Every approach of Nathan could Trifiel counter by pointing his two lightsabers towards the bigger cyborg, as Nathan couldn't jump in without jumping in at least one saber. Effectively, Trigiel claimed the high ground.
Even when Nathan would try to topple the statue, Trigiels plan was to keep a defensive position around the statue.

This was bad, Nathan knew Trigiel held a highly defensible position. He needed a change in his favour or this would be over soon.
He needed to remember his training. 'Use the Force.' the Jedi Masters had said. 'Exploit your attributes.' his drill-instructors had said. Nathan decided to listen to both.
He knew the statues where made of solidified foam to make them easy to move. He took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. He started to make his move.
Using the Force to enhance his speed, he took of like a laserbolt from a blaster. ((Check: 11 = 4 Force Level + 4 Fitness + 2 Athletics + 1 Force Speed -- )) He shot straight towards the statue Trigiel was standing on. Deactivating his lightsaber for his own safety, he turned his shoulder forward and braced for impact. His speed, size and weight all added to his momentum when he hit the statue's pedestal. The moment he hit, he immediately started pushing the statue over and using the Force to pull at the top of the statue. ((Check: 11 = 4 Force Level + 5 Strength + 2 Athletics -- Momentum from the impact)) ((Check: 8 = 4 Force Level + 3 Energy + 1 Telekinesis -- ))
If this didn't work, Nathan hoped it would at least force his opponent to move.
Hooking his fingers under the edge of the pedestal, he started to lift the edge up. ((Check: 11 = 4 Force Level + 5 Strength + 2 Athletics -- )) As the statue started to topple, Nathan suddenly felt the statue get lighter. Trigiel had been forced to jump off. Quickly pushing the foam statue's centre of gravity past the stable position, he released it and let gravity do the rest. Reactivating his sabre, he lunged at the smaller cyborg.

Notes: Shebi's terrain action is approved for a +1 bonus on offense. If you specify whether the terrain action is offensive or defensive, this avoids problems though in this case it was clear.
T'sal's terrain action is approved for a +1 bonus on defence.
T'sal was passed on the outer and middle ring. This puts her off balance, meaning she gets a -1 penalty to both attack and defence next round.))
T'sal moved to get out of Shebi's way, but soon found that the toppling over of pillars was not as good for her as she had hoped. Between dodging Shebi's relentless assault and trying not to smack into the statue face first, the woman was unable to avoid a rough landing, causing some minor bruising as well as knocking her Off Balance.
Ariana and Nebesnogo
((OOC: Nebesnogo: 7/8/6 vs Ariana 5/8/7
Ariana: 6/8/7 vs Nebesnogo 7/8/6
Notes: Nebesnogo's terrain action is approved for a +1 bonus on offence. Ariana's DCA is approved.
I have thought carefully about this fight (which is partially the cause of my delayed reaction). In this round, Ariana drops a lightsaber to change her saber bonus. On the one hand, it is consistent with the rules as they are written and the option to drop a lightsaber has been mentioned before and was never shot down. On the other hand, the saber stat rules were not intended to allow switch ups in this way and certainly not switches to offensive stats.
I am going to allow Ariana to make this move, because it is technically not illegal.
However, I am also going to stick with the Parry Mechanism in applying the change in saber style (from 2 to 1 blade) to attack next turn instead of this turn. That means you get the new defensive bonusses from your dropped saber (which are btw identical) but the offensive bonusses from using a single saber (+0/+3/+1 instead of +1/+2/+1) do not take effect until the next turn.
This brings Ariana's offensive stats to 6 / 8 / 7 instead of 5 / 9 / 7.
This means Ariana does not put Nebesnogo off balance as she would have otherwise, but I think this is in line with how the battle has been going and in line with the rules as intended.
I understand my ruling in this heavily affects the outcome which is something I regret having to do, but if I had ruled the other way around it also would have affected the outcome heavily. I think this is the fairest resolution to all parties involved.
I would like to add that this is my ruling for this round only. We should open a new topic in General to discuss how to deal with changing lightsaber bonusses in the future as it is a relevant point that needs to be more carefully addressed.))
Trying to turn the battle around, Ariana dropped a saber and changed her tactics, putting her a better offensive position, but neither Jedi was able to gain a significant advantage, both being quite well matched to one another!

Nathan used his size to get an advantage on the slashing, but the other two rings of defence seemed impenetrable to the bigger Jedi. Trigiel by contrast was well justified in switching to a more offensive style as he couldn't even get into any of Nathans defences. So far the advantage, if small, lay with Nathan, but the two cyborgs remained very evenly matched, despite both sides creative usage of terrain!

Ariana notices that the situation is becoming worse every minute now. She is not sure why Nebesnogo is gaining so much advantage on her. Ariana has the feeling that she is running out of luck. Everything she tries is either used against her or just does not work out as she expects it to work.
Since Ariana and Nebesnogo are both high up in the air she can only think of one thing that can save her. She has to use her superior wings and size against Nebesnogo. It is the only thing she has left to try.
Suddenly Ariana remembers a weak spot in the wings of a Mudry. Ariana focuses all her energy and targets the weak spot in the wings of Nebesnogo to push him down. With a combination of Force push and Telekinesis she tries to damage Nebesnogo's wings and gain some more distance. In the best case she could cripple his movement significantly and in the worst case she slows him down a bit giving herself enough space to move away from him to avoid his upcoming attacks. After pushing Nebesnogo away Ariana quickly makes more altitude to get as far away from Nebesnogo as possible. When she has enough altitude she should be able to use the high ground to get back into the fight.

As the statue loudly hit the ground, it dulled the sound of crackling as Nathan and Trigiel exchanged blows.
The longer they fought the more Nathan became impressed by the smaller cyborg. While they had seemed pretty evenly matched before, it had become more difficult to parry Trigiel's attacks. He had made a mistake and he knew that unless Trigiel made one himself this fight would be over soon. But he refused to back down. 'Never give up' That was the STF Marine motto. And he refused to insult his opponent by doing that.
Tightening his left hand around his lightsaber, Nathan took a step back. Immediately after that he pointed his sabre at the other cyborg, placing his right palm against the back of the hilt. Stepping forward, he stabbed his sabre towards his opponent putting his entire weight and every ounce of his strength behind it. ((Check: 11 = 4 Force Level + 5 Strength + 2 Athletics -- ))

Standing on the statue, Trigiel was really impressed by the strength of Nathan, or the little weight of the statue, he wasn't sure yet. The defences of the other cyborg were pretty good, and it wasn't easy for Trigiel to get past them.
During the fight, Trigiel saw the pattern of Nathan his attacks, and the reliance of his brute strength. Trigiel had an idea how handle this, and his tonfa handles appeared to be very good deflecting weapons against the attack of Nathan. Every attack Nathan did was immediately answered with a counter attack from Trigiel.
while the parries carried on, Trigiel carefully manoeuvred over the statue to the legs. Then, he faked an opening in his defence, allowing Nathan to attack, let himself fall between the legs of the statue, rolled further and then force jumped towards Nathan again. Now Trigiel was really glad he had two sabers, as he used his longer right saber for a wide vertical sweep, while he used his shorter left saber for a well placed thrust. His plan was to end back on the statue near the boots for high ground and the podium as a defensive escape if necessary.

Shebi Ajava - PC
As far as Ajava was concerned, she was done. There was little T'Sal could do, and any unarmed attack the hiocan could throw at her could easily be met with a parry from her lightsaber. Ajava didn't particularly care about the opinion of the judges, she knew that in a real mission this fight would be over, as any objective short of the elimination of T'Sal could be reached now that she dictated the flow of the combat.
Remembering master Screetor's remark about only using lightsabers, Ajava had already asked T'Sal whether she wanted to surrender. From Ajava's point of view, the hiocan girl reacted in a spectacularly childish fashion, as she mocked Ajava by transforming this duel in a game of tag.
Resolved to end this futile chase as quickly as possible, Ajava quickly hopped from platform to platform towards T'Sal's statue. Tapping off from the last platform, Ajava flew up, her right foot tapping the statue's platform, followed by her left foot tapping onto the boot. Intending to inconvenience T'Sal as much as possible, Ajava slammed her right foot on the belt of the statue, shaking the statue, and boosting up past the arms where T'Sal stood.
While she flew past T'Sal, Ajava snapped upwards with her lightsaber before cleanly landing in perfect balance on the tip of the sword. A hint of anger creeping into her voice, Ajava loudly said: "You know this won't last. Surrender!"

T'Sal wrote:T’sal is standing on the arm of the statue, she has just barely escaped. Now there is some distance and cover between her and Shebi, but that would not last long. She has to regain her composure if she wants to survive another round. She clears her mind and thinks back to wait her grandfather has taught her about suus mahna; go with the flow of your opponent and use it against him.
Miss Shebi has the advantage now and if she was her, she would now want to finish it off. T’sal looks down to see how Shebi is approaching. T’sal focuses her telekinetic power ready to use and hides herself behind the statue and takes a low stance and waits for Shebi to come.
She lets her come and when miss Shebi strikes T’sal redirects her attack with telekinesis and gives a low kick just a little to annoy her and rolls behind the statue again. When Shebi follow her and continues her attacks, T’sal dodges it by side stepping it left and right. She then makes a counter attack and tries to bring Shebi off balance so she cannot attack using her full strength.

Ajava and T'sal
((OOC: Shebi Ajava: 10/13/9 vs T'sal: 9/7/7
T'sal: 5/5/7 vs Shebi Ajava: 10/11/9
Notes: I heard some suggestions that this could become an outdrawn battle where Ajava would be unable to hit T'sal provided T'sal posted second to be able to counter Ajava's offensive move, but I don't really see that from the data at this time. Brend, I'm curious to hear the details on this from you. Could it be I am failing to see something?))
The judges were ready to call, but it was not necessary - without a lightsaber, the unarmed T'sal really did not stand much of a chance against Shebi Ajava's onslaught of sabers and after finally getting her hit in the battle was over, with Shebi the clear winner.
Ariana and Nebesnogo
((OOC: Nebesnogo: 8/9/9 vs Ariana 5/8/7
Ariana: -/-/- vs Nebesnogo 7/8/6
Notes: Unfortunately, I'm afraid there is nothing in the rules to allow you to use a terrain action to avoid attack. In fact, the whole point of the rules is that eventually someone is outscored on all rings and then loses, rather than that they are then forced to take defensive actions to prevent death ad nausium. So I'm afraid in this case, Ariana is going to lose the fight and her attempt to save herself will not work.))
Ariana's desperate attempt to draw Nebesnogo out of the sky with the force proved to be futile, unfortunately - the mudry was more than happy to come down to her though, lightsabers clashing into the woman. Fortunately these were training sabers, so Ariana was not hurt, but the battle was over. The smaller and more manoeuvrable flyer had won.
Trigiel and Nathan
((OOC: Fecta Trigiel: 10/9/9 vs Nathan 9/8/8
Nathan: 8/6/7 vs Fecta Trigiel 6/8/6
Notes: This was a clean win and a surprisingly powerful turn around - the battle was close and exciting though and I command both Trigiel and Nathan for their excellent combat roleplay! Bonus points on that! I think I liked your fight best out of all four of them.))
Trigiel changed strategies and suddenly attacked aggressively, catching Nathan by surprise. Pushing in, the cyborg slammed down his blade onto the other cyborg - it was just barely a touch, but had this been a real saber, Nathan would have taken a serious hit - enough for the judges to call the round with Trigiel a winner. Still, it was clear the two cyborgs were evenly matched and the fight could have gone either way.
((OOC: That surprisingly already concludes round 1! I had expected we'd need at least one more week.
Going into this championship, I was aware that the rules were not designed for PvP and we might run into some stuff, but I am honestly surprised by how much we learned about the combat system in this.
There are several things I really think need some work and this has been a high quality testing bed (with excellent and creative RP!). If you lost, you should feel free to blame it on some quirks we still have in the system. And I'm curious to hear your views on them in the OOC thread.
Regardless, for now I am pausing this threat for a little bit, hopefully only one week, before I start round 2, so we have some time to evaluate things and maybe implement some changes to improve things!))

After the judges made their call, Nathan took a moment to calm down.
Switching off his sabre, he notice his body had switched to internal life support. He switched it back and took a deep breath to slow down his cardial turbine pump.
He turned to Trigiel.
"That was a good fight, congratulations." He said, extending his hand.
After Trigiel had shaken his hand, Nathan turned around and left the arena.
"If you ever need a sparring partner, don't hesitate to give me a call."

Shebi Ajava - PC
In an uncharacteristic display of rudeness, the veolian padawan left the arena without so much as a word after her defeat of T'Sal.
Ariana leaves the arena to talk to Master Screetor.
"Master, why are we fighting each other in such useless duels. Don't we have more important things to do such as protecting the Union? I don't see the point in two more of these kind of duels. In such a one versus one fight the winner is already decided before the battle has even started. I rather fight together with my fellow Jedi against our enemies... Or if we have to train, I would like to train our teamwork efforts."
((OOC: Unless the rules really change I see no use in 2 more of these fights.))

Trigiel switched off his sabers too, and they automatically shove back in his arm pockets. Then he shook the hand of the bigger cyborg. "It was a good fight indeed, and you are a hard rock. But in the end, the rock always looses from the water."
After Ariana her fight was finished and she went talking to master Screetor, Trigiel joined her: "I agree with Ariana, master Screetor, although these fights are enjoyable, I have the feeling there is more to learn. Maybe a 2 vs 2 next round? Or something with other techniques, like blasters, missiles, unarmed combat and big hordes?"

"Losing a fight is frustrating, is it not?" Jedi Master Screetor smiled warmly to Ariana. "Be mindful of your emotions. They can cloud your judgement."
He looked deep into Ariana's eyes. "The reason you fight these duels is because you volunteered for the Lightsaber Championships. It is not a mandatory part of the curriculum. If you do not wish to continue fighting, you are free to step out."
As Trigiel joined in, he shook his head "At this time we have no plans to turn the lightsaber championships into a team based effort. This is about duelling skill, not about unit tactics. However, if you are interested in a two on two fight, why don't you both try to find some more companions who want to fight and organise it yourself? The Jedi Temple has several arena's that the Quartermaster can have equipped as your training desires."

T'Sal - PC
T’sal has tried to stand her ground. But it has come down to gambling on which ring she needed to defend maximum to remain standing. Miss Shebi has split her odds and that way she has won. She would probably win the tournament with that disabling maneuver. T’sal wants to talk to her but she already left.
T’sal does not get why miss Shebi wanted her to surrender so badly. Sure her odd were very bad without her light saber, but she still had a chance. This tournament is a test of skills and she tried her utmost as she stepped outside her comfort zone and was more aggressively. T'sal would visit miss Shebi later and have a chat.
T’sal walks out of the ring and returns her now broken training saber. There seems to have gathered some padawans around master Screetor, so T’sal goes to take a look.
"What are you guys up to?"

Seeing he had scored a victory the little mudry did a loopdeloop in joy. Before he could thank Ariana for the match she had left and he noticed had not picked up her second light saber.
After a short search he found the missing weapon and left to give it back to the larger flyer. After a short moment of searching he found her talking to master Screetor. After waiting for him to give his sagely advice to the Preatorian and Trigiel Nebesnogo approached her.
"Ariana I did not get the chance to thank you for the match. And you left this." He said before handing over her second light saber.
