Design Ideas: Union Policies & Projects

This thread is for posting design ideas, inspiration, and discussion on:

Union Policies
These are policies and their choices that are made at Union level. All these are in the hands of the Chancellor.

Union Projects
Union Projects are those projects that the Union can undertake as a whole. They can improve the bozzy spine, perform research on technologies, and are the way the Union as a whole takes action.

We already have one union policy ready to go. With research already clearly in the hands of the Union, we do not need additional projects at the start of the game, since the Chancellor is single-handedly directing the technological development of the Union.

Inspiration is welcome! (But we do not need to worry about this at the start of the game.)

(Do not worry about the details, implementation, or numbers you give. Those are subject to change anyway since we must balance them with the other things that are being designed.)

  • Interest rate on loans (vs amount that can be loaned) - is probably already listed somewhere
  • Farm / Construction / etc. Subsidies - provide a small amount of extra (:tax) to worlds based on how much of a specific product (chosen by the Chancellor) they exchange for (:tax) in their collective tax sets. Can only choose one product at a time, change only ever so often.
  • Foreign Trade Mission - set out on a trade mission with other groups and worlds in the galaxy to arrange one or more trade deals (details to be determined)

A rough idea for a Union project: Research into orbital preservation centers for flora. The research could unlock a technology that allows worlds to preserve native species of plants, that are e.g. under threat of extinction due to development or climate change, in a space station near the planet. The centers could give bonuses on information and/or on development of organics and healthcare products production, as well as add some fluff.
