[ Sector 15 -10 ] Escort to the Slave Rebellion
-

Mercury - Storyteller
The Jedi Council has put out a new mission for three Jedi Padawans - the escorting of Empress Saret Neferti on a diplomatic mission to the Slave Rebellion.
This mission has a highly political profile and there is risk of an ambush. Padawans that apply are expected to be pro-active in handling the security of the Empress, to have diplomatic skill to ensure they do not offend her or any of the diplomats she meets and to be able to offer, when requested, insight into the political situation.
This mission will involve getting the Empress to the Slave Rebellion safely, attending to security during the visit and bringing the Empress back safely.
As a special note, the Veolian Commonwealth has offered additional personal rewards to ensure the Empress is brought back unharmed.
((OOC: Jedi involved will gain 1 skill points and depending on the success of the mission will learn a new Special Manoeuvre for a combat style they already know, depending on their performance.))

Ariana quickly stepped forward without hesitation. "As Praetorian and ally of the Veolian Commonwealth I feel obligated to join on this mission. It would be an honor to protect the Empress."
As the first Azaryan Padawan in history, today would be his day to shine. Khalash slowly stood up, using his lightspear to balance himself. It was a style-thing mostly, since he was perfectly capable of standing up without it. As he coughed slightly to get the council's attention and slowly brushed some hair out of his eyes, he could feel his confidence strengthening his words.
"I, Khalash Shiaraz Azara-ka, vow to protect the Veolian Empress from any harm that might come to her and to bring her safely to and back form the Slave Rebellion."
Only then he realised what he had said. He was going to protect the empress of a former enemy nation with his own life. Now why ever would he want to do that? It was too late for Khalash to swallow his words though, so he figured he might as well keep at it. Maybe he could learn a thing or two about the Veolian Commonwealth...

Darones also stepped forward to announce his willingness to escort the empress.
" It would be my honor to escort the Empress on this diplomatic mission. Its benefits for the Union can be of great importance and as I understand it, the success of the mission could have great impact on the trades and the stability of region. "
" It would be my honor to escort the Empress on this diplomatic mission. Its benefits for the Union can be of great importance and as I understand it, the success of the mission could have great impact on the trades and the stability of region. "
Jedi Master Screetor was already waiting in the briefing room when the first Padawans showed up, waiting patiently until they had all arrived.
"This." he stated out immediately, waiting a second to get everyone's full attention "is a very important mission we have received from the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ardios Eldrilith himself."
He looked around the room.
"The Union is sending a high profile politician, Empress Saret Neferti, to meet with the slave rebellion. The mission is to bring her to the meeting point, guard her during the meeting and finally transport her back safely to the Union. Given that the slave rebellion is engaged in open warfare with the Hutt Families, I do not need to explain to you this mission poses a great risk and could have a profound impact on the future of peace in the galaxy.
The Council has seen it fit to give you a free hand in this mission to take whatever measures you feel are necessary to ensure the safety of the Empress. In doing so, we place a lot of trust in you. Take some time to come up with plans, I will be here if you need advise. I am certain you will not disappoint us.
He paused, letting the gravity of the words sink in.
"While you are on mission, you may see things that are very alien to us in the Union. Besides providing security, I am not just counting on you to prevent an intergalactic incident, but I will also rely on your wisdom to offer advise and insight to the Empress, should she request it."
The Jedi Master provided the Padawans with a datapad listing the location of the meeting place, a Slave Rebellion controlled world in sector 15 -10, well away from the front line of the war.

"I do not have a specific plan yet. It is currently more like a checklist for me.
What we need is a fast cruiser with possibly a small fighter escort. Sending a complete military fleet with Capital ships will send the wrong message.
I will load all the cultural data that I can find onto some data pads to make sure that we have the information we need when we get there. I will include information on the Veolian Culture as well just in case.
Does anybody else have a plan or any idea about what we should bring?"

Darones Rei - PC
" That fast cruiser would probably be a good idea, preferably one I could fly if need be. I'm not to sure about the fighter escort, though the empress might insist for them to be present, they might just draw to much unwanted attention to this mission. The situation in the area is, as I understand it unstable to say the least, so perhaps its best that we keep this as low profile as we can. "
Darones interjected as Ariana requested the opinion of her fellow Padawan.
" The cultural information would be welcome, especially the etiquette and protocol the empress wishes us to use whilst addressing her or in representation. This matter is a delicate one, so we should threat carefully, as everything we do will directly reflect on the reputation of the Empress, and with her the Veolian Commonwealth and the Union. Any specific information about the goals, in terms of what the empress hopes to achieve, for this mission would also be welcome. "
Darones then turned to Master Screetor for his next questions:
" Master, will the empress be going by herself, or does she have some staff attending her? If so, we would like to know their number, personal data, current assignment and regular tasks. I would also like all available information on our destination, the place of the meeting, and the people directly involved."

"With regards to the Empress and the appropriate protocols, I think it is best if you contact her office. We did inform about this, but such arrangements tend to have a tendency to change so it is best to ask her office yourself." the Jedi Master handed out a comm-code they could use to contact the Empress' office.
"You will be meeting with three officials of the Slave Rebellion. We do not have all the details about them: the slave rebellion just is not used to keeping records in the same way we do here in the Union so we will have to deal with that. We do know one of them is a diplomat, one is a biologist and one is a nobleman of some sort. I have their names somewhere, I will forward you the message listing them. They will be bringing a security escort, but I doubt it will be much to worry about.
As for the place... you will be meeting on the fourth moon of Lyl, a gas giant in the Hellia system in Sector 15 -10. It is in the same system as one of the Slave Rebellion primary home worlds and it has about a billion inhabitants. The climate is rather icy, but the city itself is heated by the factories there so you need not worry about that too much."

" Thank you for your insight Master, " Darones replied, " We shall contact the office of the Empress directly for any questions concerning etiquette and her attending staff. As for the additional information about our Slave Rebellion contacts, we shall await your further reply. "
Darones then turned away from Master Screetor and consulted his fellow padawans,
" Ariana, perhaps the Minister of Foreign Affairs can be helpfull in the matter of gathering a bit more intell, perhaps you could ask him if he has any additional intelligence on the Negiotators or the Lyl system? I will contact the office of the Empress and see if we can get some more answers. "
Darones subsequently left and contacted the office of the Empress using the comm-node, relaying his earlier posed questions.

Usually it wouldn't be possible to just contact the offices of on of the empresses, but Darones' call was picked up almost immediately.
The connection seemed to be audio-only: "Hello? Of course, mister Rei. I shall put you through immediately.", a woman's voice answered.
The connection appeared dead for a few moments, but then a full communications connection was established.
"Mister Rei, you have reached the offices of her imperial majesty the empress consort of Veolia. How can I be of service?", the veolian woman on the other end of the line enquired. She patiently listened while Darones explained what he wanted to know.
"In light of the secrecy of the mission, the empress consort has opted to travel by herself. She will be accompanied only by her handmaidens, a select few of her ladies-in-waiting and some of her personal belongings. In total you can expect her to travel with a retinue of ten at most.
I will forward your request for detailed information, but I'm afraid that some of the information you have requested will not be released to you.
You can refer to her imperial majesty as such, or address her as empress consort. In writing you will address her as her imperial majesty the empress consort of Veolia. Should there be any confusion as to which empress you address, you are allowed to either include her imperial majesties full name, or to include a numeral. I will send you a more comprehensive document.
I am unaware of the exact goals of her imperial majesty. I am sure that you will be informed of her goals should she deem this necessary.
You can expect the documents to arrive shortly."
With her last sentence she closed the connection.

A while later, two documents arrived, explicitly addressed to 'Padawan Rei', the first was secured against tampering through very impressive digital signatures, while the second seemed to be a standard document.

We will need a ship that is capable of supporting about 20 persons and has at least 1 master bedroom and 8 luxury rooms around it including enough storage space for whatever the empress brings. Looking at the tasks that the ladies perform the Empress will probably bring them all. "

Lyl-4 is a large moon circling Lyl, a gas Giant in cold orbit around Hellia. It has a a Type IV atmosphere and a frozen water ocean. Most of the planets inhabitants live in underground caverns several kilometres under the planets surface. As the moon is geothermically inactive, the temperature here is the same as on the surface, ranging around -100 C.
The planet features various forges and foundries where mined ores are processed into proper metals and around these cities have grown where the heat is enough to make the conditions allow for sentient life to survive.
The three officials are named Gin'tak, a Twi'lek nobleman - an old photo was included - Ling'elsa, a human biologist - no image was available - and Vosh'erTra, a Theelin diplomat.
Primary concerns are the Hutt Families, who may wish to intercept the group along the way.

With a loud bang, the door opened, revealing a panting Khalash in the doorway. He had clearly been running as fast as he possibly could as his legs were trembling and he was barely able to speak.
"*gasp* I.. I... *gasp* padawan Khalash Shiaraz Azara-ka reporting... *gasp*"
As soon as he had caught his breath, the man turned towards the other two padawans and made a deep bow.
"I.. Am very sorry that I arrived late. There were some pressing matters I had to attend to first and I literally just now returned to Union. I have done some reading to prepare for this, but I am afraid I have not done much more yet. I hope you two can forgive me."
Khalash did not rise until he had a response from both padawans. Even though he did have a good reason to be late, it was important that other people knew as little as possible of his reasons.

While you were gone we gathered some extra intelligence on the Veolian Commonwealth and its Empress and we contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We still need a ship with luxury rooms and an arrival date for the Empress.
Do you have any ideas for other preparations or maybe a clever plan for during the mission?"

" Not yet Ariana, " Darones responded to her question if he knew when the empress would arrive, " I will write a reply momentarily and I'll make sure to ask. The Empress has also informed us of her housing wishes, can we make these arrangement via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs? "

" He said " Welcome back, yes perhaps you could indeed make the arrangements for a ship.. "
He then continued his letter which he made sure to post a while later.

I thank you for the information provided in your earlier letter, it will be most helpful and we will make efforts to fulfill the wishes to the best of our ability, although giving definite guarantees can prove to be difficult.
When can we expect your presence here so that we may discuss the final needs and preparations before we are ready to leave? If you could provide us with a date and preferably a time we can make sure the necessary arrangements are in order when you arrive so that we maintain a minimal risk of delay and exposure.

Once there, she plans to discuss an internal political affair with Lady Nehket Aeka. The week after, she will receive foreign dignitaries and ambassadors at the Veolian embassy.
The Empress' visit to Unity also serves as a cover for her departure on the diplomatic mission: just before we leave the Naukā-lon-dorne, the imperial yacht, will be seen leaving Unity. The imperial yacht will set course for Mirda, and no one will be the wiser.
Her Imperial Majesty wishes to leave for sector 15 -10 within the month. Taking into account at least three weeks on Unity, hyperspace travel time of roughly 47 days, and a few days spent at interesting planets along the route this should allow us to arrive at the Hellia system within 10 weeks.
To summarize, you can expect the presence of Her Imperial Majesty within the week. During her stay at the Veolian embassy, I would be delighted to discuss any further issues with you and your team in person.
Yours sincerely,
Lady Dewa Misaki, Duchess of Lersalo"
Transport, eh?
Khalash stood there for a while, thinking about how to accomodate for the Veolian empress's wishes and get to the Slave rebellion in one piece.
After a while, Khalash decided that there were two ways to go here, but since he wasn't alone on this mission, he wondered what the other people would think about it.
"You know, I think we have two choices here. Either we try and slip through everyone's security using a small unmarked vessel, or we try and look so suspicious, that no one notices that we also have Her Imperial Majesty on board. They both have pros and cons, I guess."
Khalash slightly shifted his balance and looked at the other two padawans.
"If we go incognito, we are supposed to go unnoticed, but if we get caught, there will be no way to defend ourselves. To be honest, I don't even think we will be able to do this unnoticed, so I don't really like that plan. The other one means we will need something more suspicous without the need for other parties to attack us. The advantage is that we will be able to take a larger ship and threaten with countermeasures if our official delegation is attacked. This will require a lot more planning and cooperation from the Veolian side as well. So, what do you two think?"
A smirk appeared on Khalash's face and he wondered if the other two would choose for the seemingly easy and safe way, or the fun way.

"A small ship is simple not going to work. we have too many important people on board. They are not going to stay all in one room for 47 days...
I guess we will need a larger ship. We could be posing as the ship of a rich trader I guess?"

Darones Rei - PC
" Posing as a trader might work, but still I believe it proves to great a risk for the Empress. " Darones interject, " Perhaps a small cruiser would be more suitable, they are able to pack a punch and withstand somewhat of a beating. "
" I suggest we ask Quartermaster Nishra, perhaps she can offer some advise, and arrange a vessel for us, preferably with a trustworthy pilot, or one I could fly myself. "

Veolian Commonwealth - Faction
After a few days, Darones received the following message:
-

Darones Rei - PC
-
Lady Dewa Misaki (mask of Veolian Commonwealth) - Faction
Nearly an hour after sending the message, Darones received a short message informing him that Lady Dewa Misaki had arrived at the jedi temple. She was brought to one of the conference rooms.
The veolian noblewoman was accompanied by another woman, a veolian, clearly of lower station than herself. Though Darones knew she was 743 years old, this would have been difficult to guess based purely on her appearance.
She quickly stood up to greet the padawans. "Greetings, jedi.", she said while curtseying.
